Things I am hoping to accomplish in 2012.

We are rapidly approaching the middle of November—as in, it's tomorrow—and that means that 2011 is almost over. December will largely be taken up with editorial notes, holiday preparations, and going to DisneyWorld, so I'm getting my crazy-pants introspection out of the way early. These, then, are five things I am really, really hoping to accomplish in 2012.

1. Finish four books.

In 2012, I want (and in some cases, need) to finish four books. Midnight Blue-Light Special, The Chimes at Midnight, an undisclosed YA project, and an undisclosed Mira Grant project. (Please don't ask me to disclose them. You'll just get looked at with profound sadness.) Basically, it's about half a million words of fiction by the end of the calendar year. I can do it, although it helps if I look at it in slightly smaller chunks. They're less terrifying.

2. Re-print Stars Fall Home.

I'm going to do a Kickstarter to pay for re-printing my first studio album, Stars Fall Home. Looking at my deadlines and responsibilities for the first quarter of the year, I'm estimating somewhere around March for the announcement. That also gives me time to put together incentives for higher support levels, although "I will be really, really grateful" features fairly heavily.

3. Move to Snohomish.

Is this possible? I don't know. But the house I've wanted for the past eight years is about to be within my grasp, if I can just convince the bank that I can handle the mortgage. And yeah, adding "buying a house" and "leaving the state" to my four-book year is a little bit insane...but I want it. I want to never have to move again. It's literally the house I've based my house hunting off since the first time I saw it. I love it so much. It needs to be mine.

4. Finish the current "Velveteen vs." cycle.

I don't know that I'll ever finish the Velveteen stories, because her world is infinitely flexible and insane, but there's a certain big event that everything is building toward, and I'd like to get there. I think that getting there would be awesome.

5. Record Terror from the Alintangy Wood.

So yeah, I'm going back into the studio, this time for the followup to Red Roses and Dead Things. It's me and Jeff again, and while we're having to juggle to make everything work, I think it's going to be awesome. Planned songs include "Pumpkin Patch," "Zombie Wedding," "Time Travel Girl," and "Ozone in October." It's going to be a blast.

Got any big goals for 2012?

Goals for 2012?
Digging my way out from under a mountain of paperwork.
I think an end is in sight.
But sadly that was my goal last year as well.

A house?
That is awesome.
And it should be doable.
And completely exciting.

Soooo. what makes this house "the one?"

It's perfect.

I know it; I know it's good sides and bad sides; it has a creek; there are snakes; it's close to my Vixy and in the middle of nowhere.

It's perfect.

Sending lots of good house vibes :)
Thank you!
Snohomish!

That's near Seattle, which is my favorite city area to live. :)

I hope you get it!
Me, too!
Snohomish is beautiful! I live in Covington, and I always enjoy going up that way.
It's an amazing town.
I may have mentioned that we here at my bookstore job are entirely crazy.

So Today BookGoddess and I (ShippingGoddess) are rewriting (well, ok, resinging mostly) all the Beach Boys and Jan&Dean songs we can think of as Zombie songs, we are coming up with a plot for our imaginary musical that will feature these songs as well as most of Red Roses&Dead Things and way too much DeadBolt (they are from Cali, they fit the theme! They write creepy monster music!) and BookGoddess wants to sing Mad Science Lovesong from the turret on top of Winchester Mystery House (because I insisted we set the musical there). There is toxic waste dumped in the ocean andsurfers coming back to shore as zombies and nobody ever survives Dead Man's Curve.

This is how we amuse ourselves at work on a Monday. I wanted you to know that you bring much delight and fun to our day just about every day. Thank you!
Best wishes on the Snohomish move; the Puget Sound area is the place I most regard as "home", even though I've lived more than half my life near Boston and have no plans to move any time soon.

My goals for 2012? In no particular order:

Work: have the Big Work Thing I Can't Discuss Yet go really well, do better in a few areas I've been less strong in, and pick up at least one spiffy new skill.

Social: continue enjoying and building upon existing relationships; maybe pick up a new one as well, if the universe is so inclined. Go to cons. Give more massages, get more hugs; touch is really important to me.

Home: make some real, visible progress on the clutter problem; make the freed-up space better by replacing the crappy hand-me-down portion of the furniture inventory.
Excellent.
I told all my Windycon panel attendees how awesome you are and how much they need to come next year to see you. I even sang then snippets of 'The Black Death' to encourage them.

We are having a special Masquerade category of Post Apocalyptic Formal Wear.

(I wanted to ask you to MC the Masquerade, but realized that between appearing as Seanan-the-author, appearing as Mira-the-author and probably guest spots as Seanan-the-filker you would probably asplode if asked to do one more thing. And since that would preclude your producing any more wonderful books and/or music, which would be sad-making, I will refrain from asking)
I would be happy to MC the Masquerade. It's something I do frequently, although I usually view it as a duty of the Toastmaster.
Goals for 2012:

1) Graduate with my Communications degree. It's looking very possible at the moment, even with the substitutions I'm probably going to have to do (to cover the classes that are only offered once a year).

2) Get a job. This kind of follows the earning of my degree, and is very necessary to start paying off my student loans (OF DOOOM!). That, I'll probably need luck and lots of hard work to do.

3) I wish I could say that I have writing or other things to either finish or get out there; I kind of do, but those are not nearly as high on the list, and are going to take lots more work (as in, still in first draft, etc.).
Excellent goals.
Even though we'll miss having you fairly local, good luck on the house! When we bought ours, the process was agonizing and full of panic as Murphy stuck his oar in, but we ended up with a place we love. I hope the process goes more smoothly for you, but that you end up with a similar result.

As for 2012 plans, I think our biggest one is to get Josh to sleep in a room of his own, and hopefully sleep through the night.
Most awesome.
Ooo, house! GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!

You may want to try convincing a local bank/credit union, more than one of the Big "OMG U NO CAN HAZ TEH MONIEZ" Banks. (My mom, a realtor, has been fighting with Big Banks to give people loans gawdammit so I can sell them houses. Paraphrased.)

MORE MUSIC? EEEEEE!

Ahem. All of this sounds lovely.
Yay!

My big one is musical: no one in Cambridge has ever let me do solo work before; next summer, I'm playing both Rimsky-Korsakov's "Sheherezade" and the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto. I am spending the year doing All the Violin Practice In The World...

Ironically, I was a far better player when I was a student, but never got to do this kind of thing!

That's brilliant! I'm so happy for you!
I don't have any real goals for next year, yet.
Very pleased to hear that you're going to do some new music and work on the Velveteens.
Have fun at Disneyworld, my wife and I were there before Worldcon in August and had a real fun time.
The move to Snohomish, does this mean that Toby will also move?
Oh, no. She's a Bay Area girl.
2012: Aiming for above 60% employment.

Good luck with the house.
Thank you.
I'm just gonna skip 2012.

No, seriously, good luck with the house thing. Going through that right now and am so consumed that I can't see beyond it. Hopefully it'll go smoothly for you and then I'll have the perfect excuse to visit you! ;)
Yes! And we will have a big-ass Veronica Mars party, and watch all the best episodes and throw popcorn at each other.
I love it when other people's life dreams and resolutions directly affect me in awesomeballs ways.
Yay!
Yay! New houses! We are hoping to make the jump from apartment to house finally ourselves in 2012 after having made the leap from California up northwards and I wish you all the best in getting your dream home. The area up there is just stunning.

Lessee, plans for 2012. We are hoping to move to a new house in February, we are expecting a new baby in March and in September I hope to go back to school to do what I actually love. There's a long list but its best summed up with, stop dreaming and start doing.

And maaaaybe I will get back to my art and writing projects that have languished.
Excellent.
2012 goals? Need more definite strategies for achievement, but include:

-Finish my junior year of college and start my senior year.
-Start a job search, and hopefully find something awesome.
-Get my physical health stabilized if possible so that it stops stretching my mental health almost beyond my limits of coping.
-Failing that, figure out new and better (or continue to use already successful) strategies for coping with inevitable flare-ups, so that they don't disrupt my life too badly.
-Start my senior thesis (oh god oh god oh god), possibly during summer so that I have a solid foundation of knowledge, assuming I go with the Child ballads and will need to read/listen to them.
-Grow the readership of my medical blog about living with disability.
Brilliant!
*waves hello and sends good wishes from very near another of the S'mishes*

My big goals... start sounding really depressing if I list them out, but maybe "find a happy place, find a happy place, FIND A HAPPY PLACE" (a la Peach from Finding Nemo, while Darla thumps on the tank) works as the short version? :)
I approve this short version.
My goals for 2012:
* Finish my Year and a Day studies, ideally on time.
* Continue to work with my professional association and my union.
* Start building in some succession planning with the union.

For your amusement: 12 Futuristic Finalists: Zombie Safe House Competition
Lovely!
So, is your desired house really perfect, or will you need to get out the orange paint?

Kickstarters are neat.

Velveteen tends towards awesome, yes.

I await the pre-order availability of The Terror of Alintangy Wood.

I don't really have any big goals for 2012. I tend to work on daily, weekly, sometimes monthly cycles, but don't tend to pay that much attention to years.

There will be painting if I get the house. Oh, yes. There will be painting.

Good luck on your goals! If you move, does that mean Toby's moving too? I can so see her and every other sane person in the Kingdom of the Mists getting the hell out of dodge before the queen goes completely nonlinear.

Planned songs include ... "Zombie Wedding" ...

I love "Zombie Wedding!"

an undisclosed Mira Grant project

I won't ask what it is, I just want to say I was wondering today if you had any Mira projects lined up after the Newsflesh trilogy was done. :-)

ETA: I don't have any goals for 2012 yet. I think I'll finish 2011 first. :-)
Good plan. :)

And no, Toby won't be moving.

Snoho's a nice town. Hope that works out for you (along w/the rest, of course :-)

My big goal: figure out what to do next, now that my intended future has been kicked to the wayside. Mebbe buy a house/condo.
Good plan.
hmmm 2012 goals currently include

singing in circle at Conflikt
Getting comfortable enough with jamming on trumpet it doesn't feel a waste to bring it filking
learning violin
either getting new job or finding a way to be happy in current job

Good luck with Snohomish. Its really close to me so I know how amazing that town is. If you need anything Its about a 10 minute drive from my house to Snohomish yes that includes frozen treats if you actually get the house.
Yay!
(Please don't ask me to disclose them. You'll just get looked at with profound sadness.)

I shan't. But I will, if I may, squee over both the undisclosed things, because eventually they will likely be disclosed and in the meanwhile they are tantalizing hints of shiny things.

Actually, I'm just going to squee a lot over this whole list.
Works for me. :)
Goals:

[I will finish my thesis by Dec 31...I will finish my thesis by Dec 31...I will finish my thesis by Dec 31...]

For 2012:

*Re-watch all of Babylon V (my reward for finishing my thesis)

*Start my part time work again and grow it some

*Get my finances straightened out so I can keep my condo

*Find another full time job that's better than what I have now

*Start teaching somewhere

*Not think about the main person my thesis is about for the entire year :-)
Excellent.
