Open thread while I'm in Michigan.

Lilly says that it's time for an open thread. Obey the Siamese. (Lilly also says that whomever caused her monkey to leave the house for an entire weekend will face her wrath. This is because Lilly is secretly a tiny medieval warlord in a fuzzy, soft, pettable coat. Who's the cutest destroyer? IZZIT YOU?!)

But anyway. Open thread! Say anything! Woo! Lilly says so.

EXCEPT!!! one country/city-state DID institute a proper quarantine that worked, and is even where the word came from: Kosovo. They were a walled city and when the plague first ran through they instituted a 40 day ("quarant") hold on any ship that came to harbour. They had huge warehouses filled with grain enough to feed the place for a full year, and they had only about 20 total deaths from bubonic plague throughout the first epidemic. It's now a world History site, and a great place to visit. It also has the oldest continually occupied pharmacy in the world: it's been in business since the 1300s.
Cool stuff I learn when vacationing. ;D
