Lilly says that it's time for an open thread. Obey the Siamese. (Lilly also says that whomever caused her monkey to leave the house for an entire weekend will face her wrath. This is because Lilly is secretly a tiny medieval warlord in a fuzzy, soft, pettable coat. Who's the cutest destroyer? IZZIT YOU?!)
But anyway. Open thread! Say anything! Woo! Lilly says so.
Comment amnesty is on for this post, but I will be reading, and may reply anyway, because I'm wacky like that.
You should take more pics of your cats in front of your bookcases, that way I can look at the cats AND find out the stuff you read so I can read it too. ;))))
This seems like a good opportunity to thank you for recommending Spellbent and A Madness of Angels. I had started reading Spellbent before but Jessie's attitude in the first few pages turned me off. I gave the book a second chance and found a completely different story after the first chapter. Has anyone else read Kevin Hearne's The Iron Druid Chronicles (so far) or Clockwork Heart by Dru Pagliassotti? You should give them a try! Also Austin Grossman's "Soon I Will Be Invincible" but I'm assuming Seanan must have read that already.
As an addendum to used bookstore browsing, I also list wanted books at Paperbackswap, where I can fill in gaps in series for the actual price of postage. Or find out of print stuff. I thought you should know that NONE of your books are available. I was hunting for cheap backup copies, since good books often walk off around here. So backup copies will be full price. But basically this means that no one is giving away theirs. Just so's you know.
i got a cat just a bit ago, and we rent a house that has a carpeted loft/railings that are about seven feet off the ground. i swear it had to have been made with my bouncy monkey-like ball of feline grace in mind.
anyway, the other day we were sitting in our room watching tv and saw this:
i can't figure out if hanging upside down, curled around a railing and playing with his own tail means he's incredibly dumb or a genius among felines.
She is such a lovely little furry dominatrix! In honour of Lilly although I was productive and virtuous this morning with errands and workouts and such, I took most of the afternoon off and spent it curled up in bed napping with the feline masters. I really intended to lie down for a just a few minutes, but then the Deadly Purr Soporific dragged me under!
Gandalf and Mystique send their condolences to Lilly on the incomprehensible and unreasonable absence of her monkey, and we assume there will be severe chastisement on her return.
This is because Lilly is secretly a tiny medieval warlord in a fuzzy, soft, pettable coat
This particularly amused me because, aside from being true, it reminded me that I frequently imagined five of my past cats as a medieval Scottish clan. It helped that four of them were related to each other. Cat #5 was no doubt brought in for his muscle.
Beautiful kitten niece is beautiful. Also, unspeakably fierce.
In other news, our local library who have a nasty habit of getting rid of beginning-of-series books still have Rosemary on the shelves in their tiny paperback section. Due to construction and work I hadn't been in there since the release. I am pleased with them, and their buyer.
Have a wonderful, candy-corn filled weekend with lots of between panel naps.
Not quite so random story: While I was reading Deadline (just finished it last week), I had a close encounter with a very angry deer. I split my lunchtime between reading and a walk through a trail in some nearby woods, where I am used to seeing deer. Normally we ignore each other! But that day I saw two of them chilling out near the path and one decided to charge at me.
Considering I still had zombies on the brain, I panicked and booked it the heck out of there! I didn't register that my startled yell had spooked the deer back into the woods until I was back off the trail and on the main road again!
I just saw Contagion last night, and loved it. Thank you for introducing me to virus-oriented sci-fi, because I had little or no interest in it before I read Feed.
We use jellyfish actually. We've turned them into living blimps. The size was the easy part. Gigantism is easy to introduce in a lifeform that with less delineated body structures. The hard part, of course, was the symbiotic hydrogen producing bacteria. Still, once we got that part down the skies were full of our home grown jellyfish blimps.
Lilly! and My Little Ponies in the background! The one on the bottom shelf might be one of my old ones that I sent your way after clearing out my childhood closet. On the other hand, it may not be, but it is similar to one of the unicorn ones I know I had. Since I don't know their names, and you do, that make you their rightful owner. So says I.
I'm wrestling with myself as to whether I want to audition for a play this weekend. The audition pieces for it are bringing a one minute or less reading from a favorite sci-fi or adventure novel. I think I'm going with a page out of Feed.

Whoever shot it was at a lower level than the cat, hence the optical illusion :)

There's so much weirdness, worksafe. My favorite are the audio tracks of dramatic movie previews overlaid over My Little Pony cartoon scenes.

Is that a bell on her collar? The nonstop ringing would drive me nuts.
I'm toying with being Toby for Halloween.
