I don't know if you can see the changes that have come over me...

...for the last few days I've been afraid I might drift away.

My bags are, once again, packed to go; my 3:30am alarm has successfully pulled me from warm bed to cold reality. The cats circle like dismayed, fuzzy sharks, demanding to know what I think I'm doing. Surely I can't be thinking of leaving. Why, they would be horribly offended if I were to do something as senseless as that. And they have lots of claws, both individually and as a cumulative entity. LOTS OF CLAWS.

But I am going, because going is part of my job. Going is what enables coming back.

For the next four days, I will be at Conclave, located in scenic Romulus, Michigan. I will enjoy panels. I will sing songs. I will have a wonderful time, and yes, I will hope to see you there. All that stands between me and Michigan is a plane ride. All that stands between me and home (and the ocean of claws) is Michigan.

Here I go again.

I hope that you'll have a lovely time; that you'll be able to trust in that you're wanted, because you are.

I'd love to listen to you sing, and dance with you, and go for tent-bringing walks with you, as we've talked about before. And, I'm so happy that you're happy for me, dear S. Thank you.

The icon is of me walking along the Baltic shore, in summer. I hope you'll be able to join me someday. And, I want to hike across the North American continent...

Also, if you're ever here, we should make that happen. For I want to do that, too, but worry about trying to do it alone.

Consider yourself welcomed warmly to Michigan -- and literally so, the weather's warmed up at least where I am, and I hope it stays nice and pleasant for the duration of your stay.

And I think all cats do that, when their person is preparing for a trip. You'd think they could understand us or something...

I love the imagery of the cats circling like fuzzy sharks. Dogs do it too. My mother's dog had this 6th sense of when someone...anyone was going to leave and did everything she possibly could to prevent this awful event from actually taking place.

Have a fun trip and stay warm! (I know you'll be super busy but if you can make it over to Ann Arbor there's some lovely stuff there like Zingermans which is foodie heaven.)

On closer ground, there is a restaurant called Beirut at 7650 Merriman Rd
Romulus, MI 48174, which amazing and delicious and affordable. I love their COBRA juice and have actually scheduled airline flights so I could have enough time to eat at Beirut.:) (It is also literally right next to the airport.)
