Asking a music question.

So I am considering—not yet wedded to, but considering—re-releasing Stars Fall Home, since it's currently all out of print and stuff, and that's no fun. But being me, I'm not willing to do this if I don't feel that I am in some way improving things with a re-release. This means a) that I will probably re-record "Sycamore Tree," to resolve some issues I have with the vocals, and b) include at least one new song, for the sake of, you know, making my lizard brain not freak out about spending time on something I've already done.

This is the link to my songbook. Yes, this link, right here.

If I were to record one song that had not previously been recorded, what would you want it to be? Defend your choice! With two caveats:

* No parodies.
* Nothing mad science or horror. That will eventually be a second theme album.

Tell me what to do!

Well, Black Sky ( http://seananmcguire.com/songbook.php?id=127 ) would certainly fit the theme...

Babylon Variations (http://seananmcguire.com/songbook.php?id=8) is simply awesome *bethflail* eeeeeee. Um, yeah, Artificial Night may just be my favorite Toby book.

The Firebird Has No Tears (http://seananmcguire.com/songbook.php?id=302) has a certain thematic fit... Or anti-fit. (Although I do not know if you count it as parallel evolution or parody, for it echos "The Phoenix" by Cynthia McQuillin (yes, I memorized that song like fifteen years ago or more and sang it to my kid as a lullaby; it and The Horse-Tamer's Daughter... >_> ).)

The Changling's Tale (http://seananmcguire.com/songbook.php?id=328) is fairies and homes...

And. Y'know. Anything. O:> (Though someone who'll quote "The Hanging Tree" when drunk probably has priority over my simple squeeflails. >_> )
Oooh, Beth, I LOVE the word, "squeeflails" !! Really a perfect onomatopoeia ("a word that imitates the sound it represents").

Hugz, Justine
Feel free to hijack it for your own porpoises! Er, Purposes! O:D I'm a catch-and-release kinda gal, when it comes to words. O;>
Artificial Night is my favorite Toby book so far (One Salt Sea is still on top of my pile, I just haven't had *time*). So I went and looked at the link for Babylon Variations.

Yeeaaaaaaahhhhhhh, we need to hear this one. Need, I tell you.

Earthquake Weather is already my favorite song on Stars Fall Home by far, so more Babylon would be the awesomest thing ever.
Just in case there were any nuance issues, I like One Salt Sea, and am not doing any "oh, the author's best was X and then it was all downhill" thing! But. Artificial Night is just... *flail flail flailsquee*

And at least one scene in there reduces me to the fortunately stifle-able urge to make stick drawings with lolcat captions like "we can has Toby nao!" "U no can has!" "has gots!" "U has snake!" "we gots Tobysnake!"
Thanks for the suggestions! I will absolutely not be recording "Babylon Variations"; it would seem too much like I was trying to force all the non-filker Toby fans to buy the album.
While I mourn personally, I see what you mean. (Though if there were ever a chance of an All-Toby Album (so, presumably, Toby fans would not feel like "I Had To Buy This Whole Thing For Just One Song," were they predisposed to buy Toby Songs at all), that would make my withered heart go pitty-pat. Also, squeeflails. O:> )
