One long ache while I wait and wait, or ONE SALT SEA to drown in.

Review time, because I need to reclaim my browser from the deadly tab proliferation! Seriously, it's interfering with my attempt to check the Monster High fan sites for news. These tabs need to go. And so...

The Discriminating Fangirl has posted a review of One Salt Sea, and says, "I'm a huge fan of Seanan McGuire's October Daye series, and I think it's hands-down the best urban fantasy series out right now. It's funny and clever and exciting, and the characters are so rich and understandable, even the ones you're not supposed to sympathize with. One Salt Sea, the fifth book in the series, is even better than its four predecessors, something that's pretty rare in series. Usually things start to go downhill around book five, but McGuire keeps knocking them out of the park."

Wow.

Travels Through Iest has also reviewed One Salt Sea, and says, "With One Salt Sea, Toby has climbed to the top of the heap and is seriously challenging Jim Butcher's wise cracking wizard Harry Dresden for the title of best Urban Fantasy protagonist ever!"

Double wow.

Reflections on Reading Romance has posted a review of One Salt Sea, and says, "The book is a heart pounding adventure, as McGuire skillfully maintains the tension throughout the novel with non-stop action." Woo!

That's what I have for right now—I want to do a single-book roundup for once—but it's pretty high-quality, so I don't mind the lack of quantity. Remember, Borderlands Books in San Francisco is always ready to hook you up with signed copies, and most chain bookstores should have restocked by now.

Whee, that post release cleanup continues.

I did a mini review here http://dragonreading.dreamwidth.org/1227.html

More to come because I gor distracted...
Yay, thank you.
Yaaay! I agree with all of the above!

I should really learn how to review books beyond "OMG LOVE. AWESOME. I BAWLED FOR AN HOUR. READ IT NOW." lol. Your books definitely make me flail and try to force people to read them and I wish I could articulate more intelligently so that I could share it with the net at large. <3
Just wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed the book! I have to say I agree with the reviewer that said you are neck and neck with Jim Butcher for one of the best smartass protagonists in UF. Your world building is fantastic and your characters all have great depth and dimension. I love it when I read a series and I know without a doubt that the writer has every answer for every question I could possibly come up with...it's comforting. One more thing...I appreciate that there are consequences in the world of this series. They live in a dangerous society and no one really ever gets away unscathed. Anyway...just wanted to let you know. It was fantastic and I am looking forward to more October Daye stories.
Oh, yay. :) Thank you very much.

Awesome!
Wow! I got a double wow from Seanan for my review. Wow!
Hee, yay.
I finished my copy in one sitting (just ask the dishes in my sink, the laundry piling up and the neglected spousebeast). I agree that the books are getting better and better. I loved the humor, and thoroughly annoyed the spousebeast by reading lines out loud before he could get his hands on the book.

Although I did curse you soundly when I spent the last few chapters sobbing insanely. A couple of things hit a little too close to home (I have teenagers who live with their father and don't speak to me. You do the math).

Briliant!
(Ouch, honey, I'm sorry.)

I'm really glad you liked the book.
Awesome and well-deserved reviews. One Salt Sea was amazing - of course. Heck, all your books are amazing. The only bad part is waiting between publication dates. (And I can't even go back to re-read the series because my daughter kiped all my copies when she went off to college. Rotten kid. LOL)
Aw, yay.
They say it so much better than I could. You wrote a wonderful story, and good reviews seem to me no more than right and proper.
Yay. :)
and most chain bookstores should have restocked by now

Not around here. We only have Barnes and Noble left, with the demise of Borders. Went to two different B & Ns last week - no joy despite checking online for stock at the second one. (The computer lied.) Going to call the third one before trekking over there. Problem is that the B & Ns are not conveniently located to anything I go to on a regular basis. The Borders was on the way home.
Wow. Did you ask them to re-stock?
I know you avoid Amazon reviews (with good reason), so I'll just note that right now, with 27 reviews submitted, the review score there is:

5 star: 23
4 star: 3
3 star: 1 (and that one is titled "Wonderful!", and is a complete rave)

Also (and you may know this part already), after almost two weeks of release, One Salt Sea is still #5 on the Fantasy bestseller list, and #8 on the combined Science Fiction and Fantasy bestseller list. Pretty cool, I'd say.
Thanks for the stats.

Hee--so much good news, congratulations!

I haven't gotten a chance to read One Salt Sea yet--although I did buy it--but I definitely agree with the Discriminating Fangirl: yours is easily my favorite urban fantasy out right now.
I haven't posted a review yet ( I usually do Amazon, or sometimes Powells).

As an FYI, I've read 3 of the Dresden Files, but all the Toby books.

I'd love to see the Tobyverse done up as an RPG.

So would I!

I'm just done reading Book 3 ... but like everyone else I feel in love with the rose goblins (Got my Changeling game master into allowing one as a chimerical pet, yay)
and so I did some fanart, I hope you like it.

Any news on a UK release date?

Stupid Waterstones in Cheltenham - the biggest bookstore for miles around - hasn't ever stocked *any* of your books, despite being able to confirm when I asked that Rosemary and Rue came out over here yonks ago. After due consideration, I conclude I may have to force them at hatchet-point into ordering OSS it for me... (Or I could just ask nicely, I suppose, but where's the fun in that? )
Sweetie, I don't have a UK publisher. There's never been a UK release date; there's just the date that the shops manage to import the title.

...I finished my copy last week. And ad much as I like the previous books, One Salt Sea is my favorite so far.

And I think that Butcher is a hack - he is not in your league.
...I love you, too.
I turned someone on to the Toby books. He started 'Rosemary and Rue' on the 13th and is halfway through 'One Salt Sea' as of this afternoon.

Some verbatim Facebook messages:
