A brief note on full disclosure.

So there's been a spate recently of people going "What's the status on _________?" or "Where can I buy _________?" This is usually referring to either the Lycanthropy books or the print edition of Sparrow Hill Road, although I've also had a somewhat surprising number of inquiries about print editions of "Velveteen vs." Here, then, is my across-the-board answer:

If I am able to give the status on a project (sold, in print, not yet shopping, not yet finished), I will. I am not in any way shy about going "OH MY GOD YOU GUYS GUESS WHAT?!" I will probably give you this status whether you want it or not, whether you care about it or not, and whether you ask me or not. And just to live up to this statement, my confirmed publications for the remainder of 2011 and the beginning of 2012 are...

One Salt Sea, novel, September. Toby Daye book five.
"Cinderella City," short story, in the collection Human For A Day, December.
"Flower of Arizona," short story, in the collection Westward Weird, February.
Discount Armageddon, novel, March. InCryptid book one.
"We Will Not Be Undersold," short story, in the collection The Modern Fae's Guide to Surviving Humanity, March.

The third Newsflesh book, Blackout, will be published in May 2012.

I have a few other short stories slated for publication, but don't have release dates and/or permission to announce them yet. See, once something is sold, I am unable to tell people until I am given permission from the publisher—it's part of the standard contract. So if I'm not telling you where you can buy something, it's because there's a "can't" involved. Either you can't buy it, or I can't tell you. Either way, please, please believe me when I say that anything I am allowed to share, I share as quickly as I can, to keep my own head from exploding. This includes information about audio books and foreign editions.

Thank you for understanding. And stuff.

Yay, One Salt Sea comes out right before my vacation! :)
Yay!
I share as quickly as I can, to keep my own head from exploding.

That sounds like your whole approach to writing.
Yeah, basically.
What's the status on world domination?
Working on it.
Not only am I panting for Blackout, also, I have been waiting and waiting and waiting for demonic mousies!!!!!!
Soon!
September... that's like, 29 days away.

::happy dance::
35, since the book comes out September 6th, but soon all the same!
Ah. Yes, still soon.
My curiosity is actually about your older work - some of the stories you have listed in your bibliography, but that are no longer available. Will they ever be available elsewhere? A Seanan retrospective anthology, perhaps, or added to your other online fiction? Or are they lost forEVAR!?

Specifically I am curious about "Let's Pretend" and "Inspiration", both from old issues of Edge of Propinquity, and "Lost" from Ravens in the Library (yes, I know there an audio version of this one available - I'm weird, I prefer to read rather than listen to my stories, unless it is a live reading). And yes, there are two used copies of Ravens in the Library available on Amazon, but devoted fan though I may be, I don't have a spare $288 in my book buying budget this year. More's the pity...
Since they're all very recent, even while being "older," it will take a little while before any reprints happen. This is partially because most collections and magazines have an exclusivity period, and I want to give things time to "age out."
Knowing that all hope is not lost, and they'll be available someday is more than enough. :-)

This me, standing here going 'Seanan, that's fine.' Here, I share my pumpkin pie with you. Demand my whereabouts and what I did today. And tomorrow. Here - I've got it. Ask me when my kid is going to stop vibrating like a tuning fork when either of us leave the room. And then ask me when the referral for his little sister is going to arrive. I have control over neither of those things, and people ask in all good intent readily and often after those and other darling things. It's acceptable and shows interest - from their point of view. I'm supposed to be gracious and appreciative of such attention. If I manage civil, I'm golden.

People are EXHAUSTING. I love that you keep talking and reassuring that 'as soon as I know, so will you' - I do that too, but there's always someone who wasn't in the room at the time. Or gets impatient. Worse. It's not you NOT being clear. (Trying to be reassuring here - it's not that people suck. People want to know. Answering the same question more than 17 times in an hour does something to the brain.)

I trust you implicitly in this. When there's stuff, there's stuff. Yay stuff! It's good! It's enough!

The rest of the time, we got lives. Watched pots, that sort of thing.
