When will you rise? COUNTDOWN available now.

Some of you may remember that I did a series of blog posts "counting down" to the release of Deadline, chronicling the days leading up to the Rising of 2014. Some of you may remember asking me whether there would ever be a collected edition. And, well. Some of you may remember getting my standard "I can't say anything right now" reply of "LOOK! A BUNNY!"

Well, look. A bunny. Or more specifically, look, Countdown: A Newsflesh Novella now available for your e-reading pleasure! Countdown retails for $2.99, and is an awesome opportunity to have more Kellis-Amberlee goodness for your very own.

Click here to go to the official Orbit Short Fiction page for Countdown.
Click here to go to Amazon, and the Kindle store.
Click here to go to Barnes and Noble, and the Nook store.
Click here to go to the iBook store.

Now, some people will doubtless ask why they should pay for this when they can (and possibly have) read it for free on my blog. They may not ask me directly, 'cause we're normally more civil than that around here, but I'm going to answer anyway. There are four really good reasons.

1. This is a professionally formatted file, with all thirty days in the same place. No clicking, scrolling, or getting lost in my occasionally quixotic tag system. Basically, it's three dollars for total convenience.

2. I said a few times while writing the original series of posts that errors would creep in because writing live left me no time to go back and revise. Well, the luxury of Countdown becoming something I was paid for allowed me to go back, edit, adjust, and correct a lot of things, some little, some big. It also got a pass through the Machete Squad, making it a much higher-quality work.

3. The novella I want to do next year for Blackout is much larger and more ambitious, and it's really going to need those editorial revisions to be as good as I want it to be. The sales of Countdown will encourage Orbit to buy The Rising 2014: The Last Stand and Final Fall of the California Browncoats.

4. My cats like to eat. My cats like to eat a lot. My cats will, eventually, if unfed, eat me. If the cats eat me, I stop writing. If I stop writing, everyone will be sad. Except for me, as I will have been eaten. Buying Countdown helps me shove gooshy food into the fluffy monsters, and allows me to remain uneaten.

Countdown!

(If you have links to other ebook stores, please kick them over, and I'll add them.)

I got the notice on my Kindle of its safe arrival this morning; had totally forgotten it was preordered :)
And Lysystratae ordered it for me, too. She is trying to feed Thomas all on her own. heh.

#3 is making me snicker. This is a very, very good sign.

(If there is ever a ticky-box that says 'proprietary electronic formats are not good for me' - check it in memory of me. Do nothing more - okay? It makes perfect business sense - just not for me, and means nothing more than that.)
There is absolutely no planet, ever, where the author gets a say on things like that. Not unless you're self-publishing.

That was what I thought would be the biggest incentive.
So I don't have an eReader. I do have a smartphone, however. How should I buy this if I want to read it on my computer and/or my smartphone? Is there a format that works on both? Is there just a PDF? I don't really do ebooks. Will Amazon give me options?
What kind of smartphone do you have?

Thank You! I hadn't asked, but was hopeful. You are always very nice to me, making all these nice things (books and records and posters and t-shirts and pictures of your cats) for me. And you let everyone else buy them too, almost as if you weren't doing it all for me....wait...Oh, right. Well, close enough. :)
Aw, shucks. :)
You mentioned audio? I have all of the Newsflesh audio extant and would like to add this to my collection. When will it be available?
When I know, you'll know.
Not available for Australia yet :(
*sigh* It's easier to find real zombies here than e-books of my fav books!

I loved Countdown (quite apart from the title reminding me of a truly awful pop music show down here) and thought it would make a great companion to the Newsflesh books. I'll definitely be looking to add this to my e-reader. Being in published form, does that mean it's also able to be nominated for the 2012 Hugo novella award?
Yes!
Yay for zombie bunnies!

By the by, were you aware that they're re-releasing the Sailor Moon manga, in the original right-to-left format, and with a spiffy new translation? Also, Codename: Sailor V. First volume of each hits shelves in Mid-September!
Oh, NEAT.

I regard #4 as a good motivator. It seems to me that in a better organized world millions of dollars would be spent seeing to it that you could write (draw, crochet velociraptors, whatever) unimpeded.

After I take over the world I shall correct this.

Having followed the link, I too made the unfortunate discovery that it was unavailable up here in the socialist north.

I spent a couple moments staring at the screen with my bottom lip quivering before noticing the link to purchase the audio version of Apocalypse Scenario #683. I have now sent money to audible, and am assuming that some fraction of it will find its way to you.

Though, I am wondering which option leads to more support for your not being eaten by your cats.
If by socialist north, you mean Canada, it is available at Kobo.

If not, I am sorry :(

I forgot I pre-ordered this until it showed up on my Kindle this morning! I also did some digging and found another short story set in this universe, and downloaded it too!
"Everglades"?

I forwarded the link to the Orbit page to my boss this afternoon--yes, I'm working on full domination of my workplace by getting them hooked on your books--after you Tweeted the link.

She asked me why she would want to buy it if she's already read it. I simply said to her, "It's been edited."

She bought it for Nook right then. :)
AWESOME.
I pre-ordered it and thought it was due out tomorrow. So YAY, something to read now instead of tomorrow.

And reason #4 is especially important. Roarke gives me the side eye from time to time and I think he is contemplating how tasty my calf might be.
Hee. Yes.
Ok, this is a bit off-topic, but you mentioned the cats, and I figure that gives me a bit of an opening. I'll naturally be getting "Countdown" for my Nook, so direct the funds to Lily, Alice, and Thomas for their answer, if you would.

I've officially moved to a 2 cat situation! Yep, I adopted a brother for Katniss. So, Sasunnach was lovingly welcomed into our home. He's great. Really. He's just a BIT OCD. Like "burying" for 5 minutes after he or Katniss go in the box.
I've been using "Yesterday's News," trying to be responsible and green, but I've heard from some folks that, because it's not "clumping," that it may be encouraging Sasunnach to excessive measures. I want to be environmentally friendly, but I also want to stress the kids out as little as possible. What do you guys use? Any clear favorites?
I just use Arm and Hammer.
Yay! And payday is only 2 days away.
Yay!
Squeeeee!
I have the glee.
Just got it! It's the first book I bought for my brand-new Kobo!

*bounces*
Yay!
I would love to read this on my Kindle, but alas, it's not available on Amazon.de where my Kindle is registered :( Does your publisher know about that? I would really, really love to read it, and contribute to your cat food account while doing that.
Hm, looking at past comments, I get the feeling that they [i.e. your publisher] do. But why oh why wouldn't they want to let as many people as possible read it? Ah well, will check out the possibility of getting it through iTunes or some such like.

User sawyl referenced to your post from Velveteen vs The Junior Super Patriots saying: [...] gy for those keen to keep the author from penury and, more importantly, being eaten by her cats [...]
