Seventy-five days until the waters rise.

We are now seventy-five days from the release of One Salt Sea. Two and a half months, basically, before the fifth Toby book hits shelves and people can buy it and it's just out there. In the world. Where people will read it, and talk about it, and do all the things that people do with books, whether they like them or not.

This never gets any less frightening. In fact, right now, it comes with an extra bonus dose of frightening, because this is the last Toby book for a year—my March 2012 release with DAW is going to be the first book in the InCryptid series, Discount Armageddon. So this book has to be amazing enough to keep people from forgetting about me.

It's scary and exhilarating and a little "wait, what?" Because this was always the book I couldn't finish. Book five is where I ran out of steam, because these books were never going to come out, and five finished books was just too much for my heart to take. And now it's about to be on shelves. In seventy-five days.

Remember that I have an ARC giveaway going now, which you can enter through tomorrow afternoon. I'll open my second giveaway next week; it's going to involve photography, since we need to have something slightly less wash-and-wear.

Seventy-five days to high tide.

Wow.

Oh, never fear - we won't forget about you! Not even possible!!
<3

Just bask in your awesomeness and keep writing and loving the furbabies!

They won't let me not!

Not necessarily a slow-rotating planet, just one with a moon that's *nearly* in geostationary orbit. (The moon would presumably be somewhat smaller than ours, otherwise the height of the tides it created would be, well... rather impressive, shall we say? =:o} )

I'm already planning on how I'm going to ensure that I get to read it first - my girlfriend and I have this problem where we love the same books but only get one copy. ^^;;

I can't imagine how scary and weird this one has to be, especially with the break for InCryptid, but believe me - we'll remember Toby and we'll make sure everyone we know does, too. :)
It's bizarre, but sort of awesome at the same time.

can't wait. :)
Yay.
"Unforgettable, that's what you are/Unforgettable, though near or far" Terrifying at times, but unforgettable.
We understand the fear but think that one should be low on the worry list! Worry about combination locks on the doors that furry paws can't manage - that seems a much more reasonable concern. : )
Heh.

True.
Only 75 days? Wow. It feels so much longer than that.

A year between installments will give me a chance to reread all of the Toby books that are out so far.
This!

Have no fear, people will always love Toby.
How can they not?
Thank you. :)

This. This exactly.

The "OMG, people will now know just about as much about Toby as I do, and I can talk to people about the first five books ..." feeling.
And maybe stop correcting me on continuity we dropped three drafts ago. ;)

I can't believe it's that soon!
I know, right?
I haven't read your Toby series yet, but I am excited to start and I've bought my first one already! One of my best friends from afar (me being in Alberta and him being in Texas) sent me Feed, and I just finished Deadline. (I am devastated that I have to wait for Blackout.) I really love your style so far, and can't wait to read more of your work. :)

Okay, I'll stop fangirling. I wouldn't worry about people forgetting you. I, for one, will be doing my best to get people to read your stuff and I do a lot of flailing when I like books. :)

Also! I love your posts about your kittehs. I have a Maine Coon mix, Mi-Go, and I think she's the most awesome cat ever, and I love everything I hear and see on the Maine Coons. I keep thinking "Hah, that sounds like MY monster!" :D
I love "Mi-Go" as a name for a Maine Coon. What a fantastic description! Evil...but ADORABLE.

The majority of writers seem to put out one book a year, you do 3. Toby's pretty unforgettable.
Thank you.
I've already pre-ordered it.

And yay Math!
Gee, and where are you sending it? ;)

I came to you through Tanya Huff (who rarely manages a book a year) and Sharon Lee and Steve Miller (who have the world's worst luck with publishers - let us hope that has permanently changed). Thus, a year is but a drop in the bucket. I set my calendar by more than series' update. This gives me something to look forward to in autumn. Have faith in yourself. We do. Toby ROCKS!
Hee.

Thank you.
I'm rooting for you. And passing some mint tea for the queasiness.

I'll miss Toby. Strange (and possibly deranged) as it sounds, I could actually relate to her. I love the way you write her internal monologue. There are days I wish you could write mine.

Then I realize I'd be dealing with zombies on the bus instead of random weirdos and think.....um, maybe not.

The book will be brilliant, and all will be well.
Toby will be back in 2012, promise.

:D

and no, you won't be forgotten. kinda hard to see that happening, TBH.
Well, yay.
Your books are addicting, there's no way we'll forget you.
Thank you.
