Hope you brought your water wings. There's an undertow.

Yes, it's time for the moment you've all been waiting for: the moment where I give away the first ARC of One Salt Sea, the fifth book in the October Daye series. Today seems like a good day to open the contest, being as it's the summer solstice and all. Longest day of the year means free stuff for somebody! So...

Who wants to win an ARC? About what I figured. I'll have some more effort-intensive contests in a little bit, but first up, it's our old favorite, the random drawing. To enter, please do the following:

1) Leave a comment on this entry. Leave it as a comment on the entry, please, not on someone else's comment. Comments left on other comments cannot win.

2) That's all.

Please don't comment going "pick me, pick me," if you could be so kind. I don't pick anyone. The random number generator picks the winner, and it is a cruel mistress which has never yet picked a comment containing "pick me." Instead, why not tell me why you're excited about this book? I'd really love to know.

I will choose a winner at 2PM PST on Friday, June 24th.

Game on!

ETA: Y'all, please remember that I won't answer questions posed on a random number giveaway post. It messes up my ability to cleanly locate a winner, and that just makes things frustrating for everyone.

I love reading the Toby books because they're set in Northern Californa, which is where I live. Not much fiction gets set around here, so it's always exciting to me to read about places I know! :D

Plus, the stories rock. ;)

I am excited because I read all four of the previous books in a week, and then went through massive withdrawal... that was really only helped by reading Late Eclipses AGAIN. ;D

Random half-fish-type-thing story: one of my clearest memories as a young thing was playing a mermaid in a Christmas pageant when I was about six or seven. (IDEK. We were doing Christmases from around the world, and our class got Australia. And... I guess our beach-theme-Christmas included a mermaid. My tail was made out of a garbage bag and a clothes hanger. It was pretty awesome.)
I'm just to excited to read the next book. I can't wait to see what trouble Toby gets into and I'm hoping for more Tybalt. (Though cats hate water...)
Why am I excited?
Cause it's TOBY!!!
i'm excited because, come on, it's toby! plus i love the ocean, and toby having hijinks under the sea is just plain awesome.

this is my official comment. YAY! :)
I'm happy to read anything you write, which is why I have all but one of this series on my shelves (and two each of the Newsflesh books published so far...). I can't wait for One Salt Sea!
Oh Great Random Number Generator, I humbly beg that you look favorably upon me. ^_^

I'm excited about the book because this is one of my absolute favorite series going on right now, and because I have almost no idea where I think it's going. (Most series fiction, I usually have a pretty good idea what I expect the narrative arc to be; this series? not so much) You have a real gift for throwing curve balls that I totally did not expect, and which shift the whole landscape of the story, and which totally follow naturally upon events. I am both in awe and desperate to find out What Happens Next.
Come on you olde random number generator you !!!
I read Rosemary and Rue, then had a stack of TBR that I couldn't seem to get into. A little while down the road of time, I decided my hour/hour and a half-long bus rides deserved more than always vegging out or stressing about work, so I began setting that time aside for reading. I consumed A Local Habitation, An Artificial Night and Late Eclipses in quick succession. All of which is to say I am lookig forward to One Salt Sea very, very much. :D

That's about all the ability my headache is giving me.

I would love to be put in the hat of the benevolent mistress to receive an Arc of Ms. Daye's next adventure.

I wonder if the Random Number Generator likes chocolate.

(Oi, I need to go home). I would like a copy because a friend said that Toby was a great read and that I would be interested in the shennanigans that she gets into.
Seanan, R&R and ALH were infectious enough, but Artificial Night grabbed me and wouldn't let me off the bed until I finished it. I mean, straight through, without doing *anything* else. Only two other authors have ever done that, in all my years of reading full-length novels. So I know damn well that the second I finish Late Eclipses, I'm gonna need another Toby fix. (I'm on hiatus until I finish moving; I have to finish packing. The reading can wait. (Just keep saying that...))

(If you're curious? Bach, and annathepiper.)
I would very much like to be randomly selected by the luck gods *grin*
I give homage to the goddess of random numbers, and if she sees fit to bless me I will memorize pi to 13 digits. Amen.
I have liked this series from Rosemary and Rue. The characters are always intriguing and their stories been revealed as progressively more complex. I get drawn in deeper and deeper into Toby's worlds. And, I have successfully captured my friends as well. We flail at each other and chatter excitedly about what we want to happen, what we think will happen, and the symbolism and foreshadowing in your books. We confuse the people around us and what's more fun than all of that?
Sat down to read the second book and looked up a couple of days later at the end of Late Eclipses. Waiting until September? Not to be borne!
Merry Summer Solstice! Great way to celebrate it. :D

I'm excited about this one because I have books 1 and 2, and everyone I know that has read them has loved them. They are on my July reading list (humblest apologies for being late to the party in reading them). :D

Selkies!
Hello all, I can't wait for One Salt Sea to come out.
*bows down to the Random Number God* We're not worthy! We're not worthy!

Want to see more about Connor and the Luidaeg and the latest Big Reveal.
Aloha! *crosses fingers for book-giveaway luck*
*prayers to the Random Number Generator Zombie God*

I'm excited for this book because Toby's someone I'd like to hang out with if we were actually in the same universe, and hearing more about her life as it goes on is like catching up with a friend.
