Rise up while you can: DEADLINE awesomeness!

So it turns out that even being deathly ill doesn't stop the world from continuing to produce awesome things, and that's what we're talking about right now. Specifically, we're talking about the part where Orbit has created an absolutely stunning book trailer for the Newsflesh series—and if you watch to the very end, you might catch a sneak peek at the cover for Blackout! Watch the video, spread links, tell your friends. Let's go VIRAL.

Seriously, this is my first book trailer, and if I weren't so damn sick, I'd be jumping around and screaming. Please, please, check it out, spread it around, and see if we can't convince my publisher that I should always get these. Because they're awesome.

Once you've seen the trailer, why not gussy up your computer with a little bit of home-brewed awesome in the form of icons and wallpapers from the Mira Grant website, created by the ever-fabulous Miss Tara? The site itself is about to get some pretty massive updates (they were planned for this week, and then I slept for two days), but the icons and wallpapers are fresh and sweet and waiting for you right now.

Not quite the same, but semi-related, you can read my thoughts on California's recent unseasonable rains and how they relate to writing speculative fiction at Larissa's Bookish Life, where a guest blog I wrote for her has been posted. It's not as visually striking as the first two items on our list, but hey, I managed to make it vaguely applicable, right?

Oh, and hey, the Blog Critics include Feed in an article on dystopias, alongside 1984 and The Hunger Games. I directed a stage production of 1984 in high school. Seeing my book in a graphic with that book is like...whoa. I win the universe.

That's all for now. I'm going back to bed.

Right now, when I'm done, I'm done. The thing about doing books pre-Newsflesh is...that puts me in the territory EVERYONE has gone over. Zombies eat people. Unless there's something new to say, what's the point?
I win the universe.
Yes, you do.

Feed is the next book in my TBR pile, I'm excited!!
Me, too!
I directed a stage production of 1984 in high school.

I remember you talking about that during the surprise birthday party johno and chriso held for Robin Baylor, *mumble* years ago. Your description of the "Room 101" sequence has stuck with me ever since.
Well, now I wanna hear about the "Room 101" sequence. Because it was already pretty creepy in the book.

Understandable.
Trust me. I'm a journalist.

Oh my gods, this, this is made of so much awesome and win and epic. I don't even know what to say.

I was recommended these books by a Barnes and Noble associate whom is my current source for all book related brilliance. She practically shoved Feed at me screaming, YOU WILL READ THIS, IT IS AMAZING. To which I did, I then went out and bought Deadline the next morning. I devoured both in two days.

Basically what I'm trying to say in a very long winded and round about way-is that you are bloody fantastic, and I pretty much bow down to you. Now I get to sit back and re-read both books a billion times and try not to go insane from withdrawal.
Have you found and read the 30 or so Countdown stories prior to Deadline's release, to help with your withdrawal? :) Can be found under the "pandemic time" tag here in Seanan's journal.... :)

That is a deeply amusing trailer. Did you have anything to do with the script or did the Marketing department come up with all that delicious snark by themselves?

If I hadn't already bought and read these books, that would certainly have conovinced me to do so. :D

So very Shaun. :)
True!
Sweet! And the cover for Blackout is awesome--definitely my favorite of the three.
I'll be sure to tell Lauren.

I've boosted the signal. Rise up while you can.

I would have bought Deadline at an indy shop if I'd known where to find one. (I was out of town.) A couple of us were at a B&N last weekend looking for it; I was a bit put out that we had to go *ask* the desk... they hadn't gotten around to putting any copies out on the shelves yet. WTF? (We did get our copies though.)
Good!
I'm still waiting for my turn to read the book. My wife read it. My housemate is reading it. I'm stuck reading a silly YA book full of Mary Sues until it becomes available. I'd buy a copy and donate it to the library but they already have a copy.

In other cruel news, I dreamed last night I got a copy of One Salt Sea in the mail. When I tried to start reading the book, all of the words slid off the page like wet sand on the beach. If that wasn't bad enough, I woke up and saw that the book on my nightstand was not One Salt Sea, but the silly YA book mentioned above.
Oh, ow.
Neat trailer.

On a semi-related topic, the cover designer for Deadline did great. Something struck me as odd about the cover, especially the back page. Something about the blood spatters. So I carefully held it at the right angle to get the light reflecting off them. And discovered that the blood spatters are an *overprint* of the rest of the cover.

Now *that* is attention to detail! :-)

I just about died of glee watching that video. FANTASTIC. That's getting linked everywhere, because there should be more of those out there. (Also, I like what I saw of the Blackout cover!)
Yay!
That book trailer is awesome! So awesome I might have to take back some of the things I've said about book trailers in the past. Pimping it at my alternate personality writing blog @ glitter_n_gore.
Excellent. :)
The book trailer is awesome! You should always get them.

I really wish I was coming to the signing at Borderlands tomorrow but it's my fiance's graduation, a friend's birthday, and the going away party for a friend who is moving out of state, so I'll just be a *little* busy between all of those things! I hope it goes well :) Also, I bought my copy of Deadline today! I can't wait to start reading it.
I hope you'll enjoy it!
ok that kinda fucking rocked...
Agreed.
