DEADLINE open thread. Have a party.

To celebrate the release of Deadline [Amazon]|[Mysterious Galaxy], here. Have an open thread to discuss the book.

THERE WILL BE SPOILERS.

Seriously. If anyone comments here at all, THERE WILL BE SPOILERS. So please don't read and then yell at me because you encountered spoilers. You were warned.

You can also start a book discussion at my website forums, with less need to be concerned that I will see everything you say! In case you wanted, you know, discussion free of authorial influence. I will probably answer a great many comments. I may not answer all of them.

Have fun!

If Hollywood were listening, who'd be your dream cast for the movies/TV series?

And would you be interested in writing the screenplay? Or would you leave that to someone else?
I'd want Alison Scaglioti (Warehouse 13) for George, and either Jason Dohring or David Henry (Wizards of Waverly Place) for Shaun. For Buffy, I currently lean toward Jeanette McCurdy.

And lord, no. Someone who knows how to write a script can have THAT party.
OMG wouldn't David Henry be AWESOME? Picture him with Alison, being all YO WE ARE THE NEWS.
I've never seen Warehouse 13, but Alison definitely looks like how you describe George. I loved Jason Dohring in Moonlight and I haven't seen Wizards of Waverly Place, so Jason would have my vote. Jeanette also looks right for Buffy.

Yeah, you've got enough on your plate. :-)

They're all mostly TV actors right now, so they'd probably be affordable, too!
Definite bonus. :-) So would you prefer the Newsflesh trilogy to be movies or a TV series?
Both have their pros and cons. Movie, things get cut; TV series, things have to be added. I think movie stands a better chance of telling the story I set out to tell in the first place.
I think the trilogy might be too intense for TV, unless one of the premium channels picks it up. And a movie would reach more people, I think.
Just on looks, I like the casting of Alison & Jennette. Also on looks (not having seen their work), I'd pick Jason over David. I see more of a straight-ahead, no-quarter-asked/given intensity in his publicity shot that seems more "Irwin-esque".
Oh, man, Jason and Alison look pretty much exactly how I pictured Shaun and George. *loves them* And Jennette looks like a tiny Garcia from Criminal Minds, which is perfect since that's always sort of how I pictured Buffy and *squee* so cuuuuute.

Would that this actually WERE a TV show or a miniseries or something.
Somehow that question reminded me of my own little mental mashup the other day. I'd started a reread of Deadline and then shortly thereafter took a break to watch Mythbusters. Strange things happened in my head at that point, namely getting inundated with mental images of Grant building hordes of zombie-killing robots, Adam gleefully wielding ALL THE EXPLOSIVES, Kari unloading the heavy artillery, Tory doing a pretty damned good Shaun impression and Jamie calmly wielding the most badass anti-zombie weaponry known to man.

I'm not sure I really absorbed the first ten minutes or so of the show because I was giggling too hard, mostly at myself for having lost my damn mind.

I can so see that! LOL
Oh, lord. I was pretty much right. ;) As seen on Twitter a few minutes ago:

@grantimahara
BTW my #zombieapocalypse plan is to head straight to @MythBusters HQ. That's where all the weapons and robots are.
And it was apparently in reply to this:

@KariByron
Anyone see digital detour sign on way to Golden Gate Bridge that reads "Zombies Plunder SF"?

Here's a photo of the sign in question.
... I like the way you think.

If San Francisco starts to Rise, I want to head to M5.
