DEADLINE open thread. Have a party.

To celebrate the release of Deadline [Amazon]|[Mysterious Galaxy], here. Have an open thread to discuss the book.

THERE WILL BE SPOILERS.

Seriously. If anyone comments here at all, THERE WILL BE SPOILERS. So please don't read and then yell at me because you encountered spoilers. You were warned.

You can also start a book discussion at my website forums, with less need to be concerned that I will see everything you say! In case you wanted, you know, discussion free of authorial influence. I will probably answer a great many comments. I may not answer all of them.

Have fun!

Finished at 1:45 my time.

Reviews posted to Goodreads, Facebook, my DW and my LJ.

And that said:

Ouch, man. We couldn't just find out Shaun was sleeping with Georgia some other way. But at least he had enough self control not to scream George's name en flagrante. Glad Becks got that much. Yeesh.

I adore Mahir. I love him to bits. Too bad his wife Nan doesn't seem to be on board.

I wanted to like Kelly so much after the events of the first book. And by the time she died in Memphis, I did. I admire you for that even as I am very displeased with you for making me go from hating her to liking her just before killing her.

Alaric kinda got on my nerves.

The bulldogs were adorable and cute.

Voice!Georgia rocked, even as it made me whimper and wince for poor Shaun, knowing his sanity slippage got worse if she went from italics to in quotes.

Maggie rocks too.

And could you have been more cruel describing the delicious Indian dinner?

You made my unexpected allergy attack day much better, thank you and WHAT DO YOU MEAN I HAVE TO WAIT A YEAR FOR BLACKOUT OMG OMG OMG

Nan's probably expecting Shaun to get Mahir killed in some pointless (to her) and messy fashion and kind of wishes he'd fuck off. No luck there, but I expect that's what she wants.

(ETA: Eep! Icon switch.)
That icon is completely the hotnesss. Yummywow.

I hope maybe we see her in BLACKOUT going "Shaun Mason, you give me my husband back NOW." or something like that. She looks like George, which is why Mahir was finally able to say yes to the marriage. I imagine there must be something of George's personality there too.
"I adore Mahir. I love him to bits. Too bad his wife Nan doesn't seem to be on board."

All things considered, it's not surprising. Mahir accepted an arranged marriage because Nan looked like Georgia. It's hard to imagine that working out well for the first year, regardless of whether she knows or not.
This is true, but it seems that she is not terribly supportive of him, whether or not she knows how much like Georgia she looks.
It seemed to be working out at least okayish except for Shaun being as much of a jerk to her as he possibly could.

And Mahir seemed very upset about the possibility of losing her -- before he finally got on the plane, at which point he decided losing her was pretty bad, but not as bad as a global conspiracy.
Shaun doesn't like her. Mahir is quite fond.
Old Shaun would have probably gotten to know her or left that to Buffy. Post-dead Georgia Shaun, not so much and doesn't have that option. Given Mahir said her family was fighting his for Most Relieved, I... don't really yet have an opinion about her, being unwilling to borrow Shaun's, even if he's not using most of his opinions right now.
Old Shaun would have based his opinion on Georgia's, since Mahir was one of her people.
Oh right, good point.
Nan is a good lady. Headstrong, but who else could survive Mahir?
Aw.

Thank you.
To say nothing of the curry dinner scene. OMG. I still want Indian food since I read that.

The only reason I wasn't surprised by some of the surprises is that I read FEED four times before reading DEADLINE, so I could see things starting to come together that I definitely would not if I hadn't read the first book FOUR TIMES.

I'm waiting for the shock to wear off (and maybe to get some Indian food) before I dive right into a reread of DEADLINE, but I imagine I will reread that a few times before BLACKOUT.

Maggie rocks, but she kind of scares me, too. I think her hold on sanity is only slightly less tenuous than Shaun's, all things considered.
No, I think she's just used to being a rich girl who gets her way. She's angry and grieving now, but I don't think she's insane.

Not quite. Not yet.
I want to see more of Nan. Of the people who need to give Shaun a dressing-down, up one side and down the other, she is near the top of the list. I WOULD PAY GOOD MONEY TO SEE THIS, same as I'd like to have a good seat with popcorn near the AU where they do try to give Shaun a medal for de-amplifying Tate.
I'm kinda hoping that we see her turn up early in BLACKOUT having followed Mahir to California, having lost track of them after they left Weed, and very ticked off that it took her a minute to re-locate them.

Ooo, I kind of like that plan.
Sadly, this is not her story, and she is not a part of the site.
Aww.

Sadface.

Maybe a short story in an anthology, where she screams like a dervish while fighting zombies in the airport?
