DEADLINE open thread. Have a party.

To celebrate the release of Deadline [Amazon]|[Mysterious Galaxy], here. Have an open thread to discuss the book.

THERE WILL BE SPOILERS.

Seriously. If anyone comments here at all, THERE WILL BE SPOILERS. So please don't read and then yell at me because you encountered spoilers. You were warned.

You can also start a book discussion at my website forums, with less need to be concerned that I will see everything you say! In case you wanted, you know, discussion free of authorial influence. I will probably answer a great many comments. I may not answer all of them.

Have fun!

I got my copy of Deadline at WisCon (thank you again for signing it!) and it took a tremendous amount of willpower not to just hole up in my hotel room and read it straight through. *g* I finished it yesterday, and just sat for a while afterward, stunned. She would have gotten better. OH SHAUN. Just when I thought you couldn't break him any more. <3 <3 <3

I actually really liked how you developed Shaun and George's relationship. I found it hard to read it as incest, given how, from the very beginning, the Masons were "parents" to them in name only, and receiving confirmation of what I had suspected since the beginning of Feed was satisfying.

(Please tell me that the bulldogs will be okay. Maggie's security ninjas take care of them and spoil them with treats, right?)
Exactly. They were never really related, and didn't have a "sibling relationship" as we would recognize it. Brother/sister was just the only label they had.

(They'll be fine.)
I liked how it was implied in lots of subtle ways, until Shaun made it clear at the worst possible moment. Naturally. Poor Becks. And poor Mahir, once he twigs to it.

The coda. ZOMG. Georgia's reaction was perfect, and I couldn't love her more. And now I keep thinking that she's going to be pretty uncomfortable about all those private files Shaun's been publishing. Obviously she never intended to be AROUND after the whole world became privy to that stuff.

(Bulldogs: yay!)
Keep a close eye - a lot of Georgia's comments are "from the files...unpublished". So WE know, and possibly some of the staff, but it's not general knowledge.

Of course, once the Masons open their "f;at dump' files, it could get interesting...
I had the impression that Shaun has been posting those under the "Postcards from the Wall" title. At one point he mentions that even though she's dead, she still posts about once a week.
Some of her postcards we see are online, and some are unpublished. Just like the rest of the After the End Times staff blogs, actually.
Unlike the end of Feed, the end of Deadline makes me very, very happy. Still wondering how this ghosty George thing is gonna go, but YESSSSSS GEORGIA BACK!!!!!! In many ways! Love her.
Yay. :)
I was worried they were going to have the security guards take them out back and put them down, since they theoretically will never be coming back.
