Friday before book release: what you can do to help.

Thanks to everyone for your kind words and support leading up to the release of Deadline, the second book in the Newsflesh trilogy. I'm both excited and terrified about the idea of this book hitting shelves. I'm also about to go mostly offline—yes, even more than I have been since I left for New York—as I attend Wiscon, in Madison, Wisconsin. So here is the obligatory "ways you can help this be awesome, or at least non-traumatic."

Buy the book.
For bonus points, buy the book on or after Tuesday, when it is officially in stores. Any copies purchased before the release date don't count against my first week numbers, and those are the numbers that get a person onto the New York Times list. I would like to make the print list. I would have it framed, and then carry a picture of the framed list to show to anyone who says that girls don't like zombies. It would be brilliant. So please, buy the book, and if you can make yourself hold out, buy it once it's actually supposed to be on that shelf.

Write a review.
Amazon, Good Reads, your own personal blog, wherever. Word of mouth counts for a lot, especially during release week, and having reviews reminds people that a thing is worth reviewing, if that makes sense. I'm not saying "only post good reviews," because dude. But any review would be awesome.

Check your local library.
Most library systems allow you to request that they carry books. This is one of them.

Rise up while you can.
We only fail if we're afraid.

Can't wait to read it! I'm hoping my local independent bookstore gets my requested copy in on time.

Also, did you see that the Unshelved Book Club reviewed Rosemary and Rue? They reviewed the audio edition. The last sentence of the review made me grin like a madwoman.
I did! This delights me.
Ok, I'll try to be busy enough to be able to wait until Tuesday. :)

In the meantime, speaking of reviews and libraries ;) , someone just reviewed the audio book version of _Rosemary & Rue_ for the Unshelved Book Club.
Yay!
Does the amazon.com e-book version (kindle) count towards your numbers? I was planning to get that one, but if only the print version counts, I'll do that instead.
Since I'm not sure she'll see this anytime soon and I know (from having asked her myself), it does count, but not as much. Being a goofy little bookworm, I tend to buy both (cuz arthritis makes it hard to read the print version, but I still want to have it) :)

Yay!
I popped up a poll about Feed/Deadline on goodreads, and I update the TVTropes page every day.

And when the subject of zombies comes up, FEED is the first word on my lips.

I reviewed FEED in several different social media. I will do the same for DEADLINE.

Until you rule the world! MWAHAHAHA HAAAHAHAH HA HA haha...heh...well, you know.

Yay!
I pass two Barnes and Noble locations on my way to work. It takes all the strength I have not to go in and see if they have Deadline on the shelves.

Must.
Wait.
For Tuesday.
*twitches*
I was in a BN today for something else ... they had copies on the shelf and it was all I could do to not just stand there for hours reading away. But I was good and put it down. >.>

I have it pre-ordered from Amazon, where it will magically appear on my Kindle that morning when I awake. Unfortunately, I still have to go to work that day...

I -just- finished my first read of Feed earlier this week, and have been spreading the word and links and enthusiasm to all of my friends and coworkers. Hopefully some of that will spill over to the new book, too!!!
That would be wonderful.

They do count toward first-week numbers; it's stores that put things out early that cause problems.

Do amazon pre-orders count towards that first week of sales?
For physical books, yes.

Will buying every copy of Deadline in at least one B&N help? ;) That's a bit much for my budget, but a single copy is not, so count me in for Operation: Zombie Girlz.
Yay!
Do pre-ordered copies not count? I would cancel and re-order, but have just got an email from Amazon saying my copy has dispatched (though I probably won't get it until Wednesday or Thursday), so if that won't count there's not much I can do now :(
Pre-orders count. The issue is people going into stores early and buying the book off the shelf, even though it isn't technically out yet.

If you haven't already seen this article in today's WSJ, you should: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052702304520804576343310420118894.html?mod=WSJ_hpp_editorsPicks_2
Neat!
My local bookstore just called to tell me my pre-ordered copy is in, but I'll be good and wait till Tuesday to pick it up.
Thank you very, very much.
This is a little off-topic, as it has to deal with your other series, but here is a review for the audio version of Rosemary and Rue!

Unshelved Book Club's review of Rosemary and Rue, narrated by Mary Robinette Kowal

Enjoy WisCon!
Neat!
Pre-ordered for my Kindle!
Cool.
I asked the NYPL to carry it!
Thank you!
The book is officially on my list! Have fun at Wiscon; I'll miss you at BayCon!
Hope the con's been great for you.

Tuesday is Zombie Day in my world -- I should receive both paper and e-book copies of Deadline and Ghoulia.

Three Monster High dolls down, umpteen to go. Rumor has it more dolls will be available Wednesday.
Woo!
Seanan, my partner and I live in Australia and it'll be Tuesday for us sooner than for you guys in the US. Will it still count if we buy the copy on our Tuesday rather than yours?
You can buy yours whenever you like; sadly, Australian sales, being imports, count totally weirdly, so I'm just happy that you're going to have one.
To join in the Great Effort, I'm buying the paperback during the first week in a book store rather than the NookBook.
YAY!
Oops - bought mine at Uncle Hugo's over lunch today.
Please don't tell me when you buy books before the official release date. I'm thrilled that you're excited to have it, but finding out that the slippage is that bad genuinely just makes me cry. :(

I just got a Nook as a gift, and I'm waiting for release day so I can download your latest from home. I will likely buy a paper copy as a gift, too. Heeeee.

I want you to make the print list too. Your reasons make perfect sense to me. *nodnod*
Yay, paper copy!

Seriously, those help MUCH more.

Despite Deadline not being released in England until June 5th? Amazon has just sent me an e-mail saying it's dispatched. :D

This is.. well not the best news this week(I have an interview as a scientist again!!) but certainly brilliant news! All ready for my week up a mountain with it.
Best of luck!

I've already go the book on my Goodreads "to read" list, and will be picking it up as soon as I can find it!
Not until after Tuesday, please!
A friend of mine turned me on to Feed last year and I must say I was blown away. Thank you for the breath of fresh air in an otherwise fairly stale genre. I am amazingly excited for the release of this book and assure you I will bring it to as many people's attention as I can. You and these books deserve every bit of it.
