Hugo nominations are live. When will you Rise?

I am...honored and delighted and a little stunned to announce that Feed, written under the name "Mira Grant," has been nominated for the 2011 Hugo Award for Best Novel. The award will be given this August, at Renovation, the World Science Fiction Convention to be held in Reno, Nevada.

Yeah.

I've been nominated for a Hugo.

And yeah, I cried.

This is such an honor. This is...this is one of those things I never expected, that I get to have for the rest of my life. "I was nominated for a Hugo Award." Winning would be awesome, but in a way, it's icing on an already delicious cake, because I was nominated. Out of everything published in 2010, enough people said "Feed was the best" that I made the ballot. Me, and four other people, out of all the books there were.

I am honored and stunned and delighted and terrified, and it's something I've dreamed of literally since I found out Ray Bradbury had a Hugo Award, so I must have been, like, eight. And now my name is on that ballot.

When will I Rise? I don't think I could Rise any higher than I am right now.

Thank you all so much.

Yep. Glad everyone agrees with me. So happy for you, girl. So well deserved.
*massive hugs*
Love you lots.
Congratulations! You thoroughly deserve it! ♥
Thank you!
That is such fantastic news! Congratulations on such a well-deserved nomination!

Now we do the dance of joy!
WOO! THE DANCE OF JOY!
Congrats! Here's hoping we get to see you accepting a Hugo at Reno this year.
Guh.

I would die.
You deserve it. Feed is like caffiene directed into the brainstem
Best compliment ever.
OK, who saw this coming? *raises hand*

Color me delighted, but totally unsurprised. Yay!
Glee.
I wish I could hug you and squee with you right now! I'm such a strange fangirl, aren't I? I would say I do my best to freak you out, but I don't MEAN TO!

Also? Like everyone else said: congratulations! Much much deserved for the amazingness that is Feed, and even if you don't win... you've already won. I'm glad the world is learning how amazing our Seanan is.
Your hugs would be gratefully received. Promise.
I swear, one of these days I'm going to come home and check your journal to discover that you've been declared Empress of All Humanity. And also cured cancer. The zombie-free way. But only because you'd already done it the zombie way in your awesome Hugo-nominated book.

Congratulations, and wow.

P.S. Someday, after you finally consent to enter cryogenic stasis to be preserved for future generations, you are so going to have an award named after you.
Once I'm empress, we'll all get cookies.
Yay! And infinitely well deserved :).
Thank you.
You deserve it. That books deserves it.
Thank you, sweetie. I wish you were going to be at the Hugos this year.

I was thrilled for you when I heard. Yay!
I'm still staggered.
Huzzah and likewise squee! Totally deserved, and I now find myself in the uncomfortable position of wanting one of my favourite authors (Lois McMaster Bujold) to lose. Because, y'know, she already has a few (*cough cough lots*), and Feed is AWESOMESAUCE and deserves wider recognition. I totally agree with previous commenters who said a movie would be great, though I would live in terror of it being butchered.

I am not a horror fan. I do not watch horror movies. I am happy to watch movies that could be defined as action or comedy or whatever with horror elements, but I need them to have a lift - a sense that All Is Not Lost. People have to be able to fight the Thing Of The Week; I can't stand movies or books where at the end it's obvious that it was all just futile struggles against the omnipotent dark Whateveritwas. (I especially hate when at the end the protagonists think they've won but something is revealed to the reader/viewer that makes it clear that it's not over and the evil is coming back, which is why I cheered at the end of Bats, heh.) And that is one of the reasons why I loved Feed.

All *was* lost, there *was* a zombie apocalypse, humanity *is* kinda doomed if you want to look at it that way (what with everyone carrying the combo bug), but life goes on and if you're just sensible you have a good chance of dying of old age (at which point you become a serious disposal problem for your loved ones, hee). I love that. I love that okay, that sucked, but we can do something about it. I love that you have a world where yes, shambling zombies could turn up anywhere, but they aren't even the real problem in the book!

I also completely and utterly ADORE you for coming up with a believable scientific rationale for zombies. Your zombies work. It's not just "hey, clearly some magical shit that we wot not of happened and surprise! zombies!", it's "this person did this and that person did that and whoa, unintended consequences ahoy".

I figure you already know all the squee-worthy stuff you packed into this book, but what the heck, I was due some squee-ing and it never hurts to hear from your adoring fans, does it? (So long as we stay just adoring and don't go all Kathy Bates on you, ahem.)

I want to write as well as you. Not like you, the world only needs one Seanan Mcguire and the position is filled, but as well as you, and the mere fact that you exist gives me hope.

So, er... yeah. *cough* Nice book. :D
I'm so glad you liked it, and if you keep working, you'll meet your goals. :)

Thank you.
*whole pack of bat noises*
Heeeee.
ROCK! YOU KICK ASS, HURRAY!!!!
(this message demanded all caps:)) Congratulations!)
YAY!
I haven't read all of the novels in the category but I think you have the best one out of the group. :)
I just finished reading Feed. I don't usually like zombie books, but the Toby books are so good I decided to give it a try.

I am SO glad I did. I can say this is one Hugo that is well-deserved! The twist, I did not see coming, and the ending made me cry. I have already recommended it to several zombie-loving friends. (One friend was all "OMG YES! I LOVED THAT BOOK!" and we squeed together about it.)
This makes me really happy. :)

Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
Hee.
Very yes congratulations.
Congratulations! (and the next printing will have an extra-special cover denoting the book's accolade(s), and I can buy that one, since mine is falling apart from being reread and cried on!)

I'll keep my fingers crossed for it to emerge victorious in the vote.
Thank you!
Congrats, pumpkin cat-lady. I am so happy for you.
Thank you so much.
Many many congratulations, hon. And well deserved. :) And just to give you a smile: http://all-that-is-interesting.com/post/4956385434/the-first-zombie-proof-house :D Because the Zombie Apocalypse *is* coming. ;)
It is. And we will be PREPARED.
CONGRATS!!! As I live in Reno I'm so excited you will be here. Oh god, I hope you'll be here? :D
I will be there!
Congrats! Feed does very much deserve it.
I'm glad you think so. :)
Utterly well deserved, and I am delighted for you!
Thanks, sweetie.
Like, woot, dudette. :{)}
Thank you!
