Hugo nominations are live. When will you Rise?

I am...honored and delighted and a little stunned to announce that Feed, written under the name "Mira Grant," has been nominated for the 2011 Hugo Award for Best Novel. The award will be given this August, at Renovation, the World Science Fiction Convention to be held in Reno, Nevada.

Yeah.

I've been nominated for a Hugo.

And yeah, I cried.

This is such an honor. This is...this is one of those things I never expected, that I get to have for the rest of my life. "I was nominated for a Hugo Award." Winning would be awesome, but in a way, it's icing on an already delicious cake, because I was nominated. Out of everything published in 2010, enough people said "Feed was the best" that I made the ballot. Me, and four other people, out of all the books there were.

I am honored and stunned and delighted and terrified, and it's something I've dreamed of literally since I found out Ray Bradbury had a Hugo Award, so I must have been, like, eight. And now my name is on that ballot.

When will I Rise? I don't think I could Rise any higher than I am right now.

Thank you all so much.

WooHoo! You've worked hard and it shows.
Congratulations.
Thank you!
It's good to see that the Hugo voters made the right decision. Feed totally rocks, and you totally deserve this.
Thank you!
Congratulations and you're welcome! Yay!
Thank you!
Spectacular!!! Congrats!!! I'm glad that FEED is getting the recognition it deserves. Zombies, epidemiology, action, strong women, politics...what's not to love? (Honestly, you had me at zombies and strong women.)
Hee.
I am so glad you are getting the recognition for having written such a knock-out book. I do not read horror. I don't watch horror movies. I read Feed. (I resisted but the review that said it was Night of the living dead meets the West Wing got me. I LOVED the West Wing.) It is not a comfortable book, mostly because I could see it happening. But it is such a well-written, innovative book that I could not put down. Literally. It went everywhere with me until I finished it. I cried and yelled at the ending. I will reread it before the next one comes out because my brain has no hope of remembering even half the plot twists from Feed. I am in awe of your creativity and drive. Rock on!

Thank you!
It must be a fabulously, tumultuous ride you're on! I know you've been writing all your life but I just can't even begin to imagine being in your shoes these last two years. I'm so very happy for you and so pleased that it's happening to such a genuinely nice and enjoyable person. Who also has a wicked sense of fun and funny and story. Good Luck. Wish I could vote. Pretty amazed by you and for you!

Zombies ARE love:)
Also, my very, very picky husband is reading Feed and he NEVER reads for fun anymore. And he's going LOVE the ending. I just wish he wasn't such a slow reader so I could bounce around in glee when he gets there.

Now, the appropriate response at this point is to say "Congratulations!" and tell you that this is a well deserved honor.

But lots of people have said those things already. So instead, I shall observe that velociraptors are too small to use as riding animals, but deinonychus might work. They're pack hunters, so domesticating them isn't implausible. The problem is keeping them fed. I imagine it would be quite tricky to carry enough meat for them on an ongoing basis.
Best comment EVER!

Absolutely fabulous! Your hard work and amazing imagination have won you this honor. Congratulations. (FEED was my favorite book of 2010!)

Thank you!

Thank you!
Joining in the congratulations...Congrats!
Thank you!
I'm so excited for you! Congrats!
I'm all like AHHHHHHHH and flailing over here.
FEED is an amazing, unique book. There has really never been anything quite like it out there, in my experience anyway, and you deserve this so very very much. &hearts
Thank you. :)
Congratulations!
Thank you!
Seriously, you should win. Willis and Bujold already have their Hugos (and Willis's isn't up to snuff, IMHO), and while I'm sure McDonald's book is lovely, I'm not interested, and I think FEED is far more compelling than 100K Kingdoms, despite my liking the latter book.

GO YOU!!!!!!!
Thank you!

I'm just still like...whoa.

That is completely and utterly awesome, and also not at all surprising. It's one of the best books I read in the last five years.

I'm proud of you! *hugs* :)
Thank you!
Congratulations! :-D
Thank you!

I may actually have to attend the Hugos this year. Would be my first time in 16 Worldcons.
Hey, if we can get ALL the filkers to attend, we can make SO MUCH NOISE.
