Weekend bullet points, because otherwise, madness.

1. The Roseville event was awesome, and the store now has autographed copies of all five of my currently published books. A Local Habitation is naturally in the shortest supply, so if you'd been planning to swing by the store and pick up a set, you should probably do so soon, before everything goes away. Thanks to Alex, for having me, and to Sunil, for bringing me wonderful goodies from England and giving me hugs.

2. In case you missed the announcement, An Artificial Night is in the BSC Review Book Tournament Finals, and Toby could use your vote. Also, once she has conclusively CRUSHED HER OPPONENT, I can stop posting about this, thus freeing up your valuable display space for other topics, like the ever-popular "complaining about my cats."

3. I really enjoyed the newest Disney Channel Original Movie, Lemonade Mouth. I did not enjoy them presenting the first hour of the movie sans commercials without warning me first, as it meant I had not brought a soda, or a blanket, or the paperwork I needed to finish during the movie, before sitting down on the couch. I am told the book is better than the movie. I must now read the book.

4. Served at yesterday's brunch: potato cake. It's cake, made of potatoes, bacon fat, and bacon. HOW CAN THIS BE? The spirit of sweetmusic_27 hovered over my shoulder and watched me eat it, and I now need the recipe, because I must cook it for her. It is a moral imperative.

5. I visited the Sacramento Shirt Shop, and plans for Wicked Girls shirts are now proceeding apace. I should be posting about it soon. Girl-cut shirts are available up to 2x, and we'll be able to do standard-cut shirts up to 5x, as needed, for no additional cost. Baby shirts are a different setup, and so would be a different order. Details will be forthcoming; I don't have them just yet.

6. I am solidly on target to hit 100,000 words on Blackout by Saturday. This is both incredibly exciting and incredibly stressful, since it means I'm coming closer and closer to the point where I have to stop setting things up in favor of knocking everything down. Considering what I have left to do in this volume, I'm starting to worry that the first draft may need more trimming than I thought. Since I am a perennial trimmer (better a late trim than a panicked plumping), this is okay, it's just surprising.

7. Zombies are love.

8. The Cartoon Network schedule for the rest of 2011 has been released, and Tower Prep is not represented. Here's hoping this is either a glitch, or they're about to announce moving Tower Prep to SyFy, where it could find an enormous audience and live forever.

9. I will probably celebrate hitting 100,000 words on Blackout by cleaning as much of my room as is physically possible and then writing the rest of "Rat-Catcher" in one feverish sprint. Don't judge me, this is how writers party hard.

10. Doctor Who comes back on Saturday. Saturday can't come fast enough.

Wicked Girls: the shirt?! Can't wait!
Yay!
Re #8: Nooooooooo! And after that cliffhanger, too! D:
I know, right?!
I agree wholeheartedly with #10.
So.

Excited.
Still haven't seen the movie, but Mark Peter Hughes and I have been in a writing group together for something ridiculous like a decade. It's great to see him do so well.
Wow, really? That's awesome.

Let him know that if (ha ha) he's looking for a high school to be interviewed by, I have one in Wisconsin that might actually combust.

...all five of my currently published books.

I am just taking a moment to enjoy that phrase. :)
Heeeee.
Re: 8: I kinda wish that, if they're going to just out-and-out cancel Tower Prep, they'd quit dicking us around and tell us so. As much as I'd rather it get renewed in perpetuity, of course.
YES.
Glad you liked the potato cake. I'll have the brunch lady send you the recipe.
I had a lovely time, as always. Thank you so much.
Potato (or potatoe as I believe you spell it in the USA) cakes are good. My recipe - mix cold mashed potato with flour and a little bit of milk. to make a sticky batter. It should have enough flour to stick together, enough milk to keep it sticky. Powder flour on the outside so it's not too sticky. Add salt and pepper to taste. Put butter into a heavy griddle. When its hot spoon batter onto the griddle. use a spatula to smoosh the batter down so its about the thickness of a potato cake (say 5mm). When it's cooked on one side it will will come unstuck from the griddle, like a pancake, and you can turn it and cook the other side.

Mixing bacon grease in or cooking in bacon grease does sound like it could taste good. I like to serve with bacon and maple syrup (since I've met telynor).
Not potato pancakes; an actual cake made of potato.

It was amazing.

1. And some little boy met a REAL AUTHOR.
True!
<3 <3 <3 <3 BACON = LOVE <3 <3 <3 <3
YES ZOMG.
Cartoon Network has earned my 'you guys have recto-cranial inversion, BIG TIME' sneering. Tower Prep AND Symbiotic Titan? Right.

If they didn't air Pokemon, we'd never watch the channel. And to be honest? We're recording and fast forwarding through the commercials and announcements for their new shows. Which? If fella and I keep looking at each other over them much more? Once the new season is done, the whole channel is off the radar. Full of awful and what, is the nice way to put it.

I'd complain louder, except it all smells too much like Quantum Leap and we all know how that ended.

Potato cake. Hmmm. Sliced or mashed?
Chunked.
Tower Prep is not renewed? Butbutbut...

Darn it.

Have not had a chance to watch the last episode yet. Now I wonder if I should if it's a cliffhanger...
You shouldn't. :(
The rat-shit bastards (not that I have a strong opinion or anything) over at Cartoon Network also canned Sym-Bionic Titan not because it had rating, but because it wasn't toyetic enough. This is a show where the giant robot has a new weapon almost every week, there's a Monster of the Week, numerous bad guys, and ARGH!

There's pretty much a 0 chance of anyone else picking it up, since the creator, Genndy Tartakovsky, has packed up and moved over to Sony to work on a new project.
As a fan of Megas XLR I feel your pain.

I also want DVDs.
Potato and bacon cake recipe in this month's "Everyday Food" - can scan and email if you want it (andanyone else who wants).
Yes please and thank you. I was about to ask Seanan to pass it along when she got it.

mmm, that potato cake sounds mighty mighty tasty as DOOM.
So hanging for some new Dr Who.
We have potato cakes down here, they sell them in the fish and chip shops, but I don't think they're at all the same things. I have a friend who swears by them as a hangover cure.
9. When you say things like that I parse it as "And after I'm done baking a batch of cookies for you, I'll do some cleanup and bake you a cake."

10. I'm worried it's getting over-hyped. And it occurs to me that it is really weird that I now live in a world in which it is possible to worry about Doctor Who getting over-hyped. Back when I was younger and still thought that 'Dalek' rhymed with 'Garlic' I would not have understood this concept.
#3 - I liked it too, but you were right about the break. The rebel girl was HOT!
7. Zombies are love.
I saw this on Ain't It Cool today and thought of you.
I actually just wrote a comedy about a zombie virus that breaks out in a primary school but only effects people who haven’t been through puberty. There’s all these eight or nine year olds running around and the teachers are holed up inside the school. And the title of the film is…? Cooties. That’s just an out and out comedy.
Which is really just more love.

That sounds like a comic book that came out several years ago, Recess Pieces.
