So, uh, welcome. And stuff.

LJ appears to be vaguely stable again, which is a nice change. I missed you, LJ! I know that blogging is dead, and it's the age of Farmville or the Tweet or whatever, and I'm on Facebook (technically) and Twitter (avidly), but my heart's true home is here, in Blogland, where I can write full sentences and punctuate them properly without worrying about the number of commas I use. I LOVE YOU, OXFORD COMMA.

Ahem. Anyway...

We're in a vague lull right now, which is nice, since it's letting me catch up on my word counts. I knocked out 2,000 words of Blackout last night, and then turned around and wrote almost as much on "Crystal Halloway, Girl Wonder, and the Truth Fairy's Curse," which sounds like a fluffy cross between Nancy Drew and every Harry Potter knock-off ever, but is, no shit, the most depressingly nihilistic thing I've written in years. Possibly ever. I made a giant spider cry. I have no regrets.

I do have a book event at the Borders in Roseville, California scheduled for next Saturday, and if you're local, it would be awesome if you could drop by. Borders events are much more low-key than the Traveling Circus, and sometimes it winds up just me, sitting at my little "in-store author" table, working on art cards and pretending that I'm not lonely. Help me not be lonely!

Speaking of being lonely, there's been, like, a hugenormous influx of people recently, and I honestly can't tell why. There was a little bump last week, when I posted about my decision to withdraw from Wicked Pretty Things, but since then, it's just been like, WHOA HOLY CRAP I DON'T HAVE THIS MANY PLATES. So if you're new here, hello! Welcome! Can you please tell me who you are and how you got here? I'm totally thrilled to have you, I just like to have some vague idea of what's going on. (Yeah, right. Like that's ever going to happen.)

In other news, water is wet, zombies are love, Jean Grey is still dead, and Thomas is rapidly approaching an improbable size.

What's new with you?

People we know in common:

gwyd, we have an odd sort of clonality/polar opposites in our lives.

karjack, I think you know Karjack...

and

newroticgirl, who I also think you know. There's probably other people as well, because I know a lot of writers through newroticgirl.
I got sent a review copy - I'm a blind journalist - of Feed from Orbit (love love love!) and kinda got hooked. I love zombie fiction and I've listened to the audiobook two dozen times. I recently got digital/audiobook copies of the four Toby books and they fantastic but Mira's works remain my first love. I'm writing a review of Deadline as we speak and can't wait to be able to post it :D
Awesome!
My BIL gave me a Friskies junket - it's a cat toy you can put treats in, and then the kitty has to play with it to get them out. On its way.
That's awesome.

punctuate them properly without worrying about the number of commas I use. I LOVE YOU, OXFORD COMMA.

This motivated me to search out instructions regarding the proper use of the comma. My brain is temporarily full, so I will make another pot of coffee, pick up my knitting, and watch an episode of Merlin.

In other news, I have made some new friends, and I like them very much, I do! (Hmmm... which rule pertains to that use of the comma?)
Commas have many rules. They're like the poker of punctuation.
I was plaintively looking at miragrant.com and doing random searches to see if there was an excerpt of Deadline posted anywhere yet, and somehow that led me here. I forget how. That was a long time ago. By which I mean, shortly before the WPT announcement. I'm not good at remembering things. Hopefully it's not a sign of imminent conversion! ;)
Hee. Awesome, and welcome!
I'm Sarah. I sent you a piece of fanmail the other month and I owe you some ponies.

How I got here? Probably years ago, back before you were published or even had an agent. I remember coming here from one of your many quotable quotes being posted on metaquotes. And I stuck around and now I have books and music by you on my shelves so yay! :D
PONIES.

Ahem. What was I saying?

Welcome!
Jean Grey is still dead

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!! Let me have my delusions.

Hiya :) I'm here because I've had your books on my wishlist for a while, but didn't realise you were on livejournal until the Wicked Pretty Things news.
Awesome!
I can account for one, perhaps two. kkatowll is my housemate who I finally talked into reading your Toby books. I talked another friend into reading Feed, because she likes zombie books and is blind. She doesn't have her own LJ, but she has a blog that allows her to login to LJ. I have no idea if she's following you now.
Ah, awesome!
Well you're generally awesome and also, yeah--Cleo linked you. She has a staggering fanbase, LJ-wise. (She's the reason I found you like a year ago, although I forget what you were talking about that she decided to share at the time...)
That's fantastic. Thank you.
I saw this and thought of you immediately: http://blogs.dallasobserver.com/unfairpark/2011/04/truck_thefts_from_texas_soda_d.php

Yeah. Trucks stolen from a Dr. Pepper bottling facility, emptied...

You can see why I thought of you first, right? Take the diet, sell the rest...
I would so support that plan.
I arrived here via the Running Press debacle. I'm an epubbed author with a couple of presses, Loose Id and Liquid Silver Books, and run my own little ebook publishing house, Shadowfire Press. I also know several other Running Press authors--they all write gay romances--which is one of the things I write, though not the only thing by far.
Excellent. Thank you.
I'm new here! Hi! I've been following you on Twitter for a while, but I thought it was time to add you here -- I believe we have a few friends in common, but I mostly know you via KV Taylor.

Anyway, I'm also an artist/author type, recently agented and on submission.

Jean Grey is still dead? Really? I'm... almost impressed. I stopped reading X-Men a few years ago and was convinced she'd showed up again by now.
Welcome, and good luck!

Yeah, she's still dead. I thank the gods of Marvel for that every day.
HI!

I started reading your Toby Daye series about a week ago (because I am forever late to the party) and absolutely fell in love with it.

Coincidentally, I found your journal through a link from The Sparkle Project during the whole Wicked Pretty Things debacle.

I read your post on why you dropped out and now I have mad respect for you as a person in addition to *heart*-ing your books.

So I thought I'd stalk watch your journal. :D
Well, thank you. :) I'm sorry it took so long to reply to this comment; I'm still digging myself out of the hole of over-scheduled that I let myself get sunk in.

New here too.. Actually tracked you down after reading 3 of the 4 Toby Daye series and thought that I HAD to read more about the author as I enjoyed this series so much. So I gather I'm another stalker... *grin*
There's nothing wrong with a little friendly stalking between friends!
Hi! I read your books awhile back and enjoyed them, then found your journal through cleolinda's link about you withdrawing from Wicked Pretty Things. Since I like your books and you seem like a pretty cool person, I friended you.
Thank you. I'm glad you're here.
I'm vaguely new ... I think I started following you last fall actually, and I really have NO clue how I got here. There was link soup somewhere and I started following you and a couple other authors all in one go. Sadly, I have yet to have time to actually go out and GET any books, though I have seen them in the bookstore where I work, so I know they exist.
I understand from lack of time. Note that I am only now clearing out some of these older comments. Welcome, and sorry about the delay.

What? Jean Grey is dead? When did this happen? Why wasn't I told?
Several years ago now, during Grant Morrison's run on the book. Wolverine stabbed her in the chest so she wouldn't burn to death when Asteroid M crashed to earth.
I will come to Roseville and give you drugs and ask you for the fiftieth time how knowes work.

Oh and then you should come back to A's place and play Dominion!
Thank you for coming to Roseville.
I actually can't remember where I found you. I do know I friended you here before I'd read any of your books or heard your music, and subsequently got hold of both and fell head over heels. *grin*
That makes me happy. :)
I came here by way of your mustached Komodo Dragon. It was courteous enough to offer me a lift.

Been lurking on your LJ for roughly a year since I read FEED. Occasionally twitter with you about mimes and animated MLP icons.

My hair is still red, my eyes are still four, and I have yet to read one of your Toby books.
All good things.
Once upon a time, in a galaxy far, far away; I gave some chick a ride home. She sat in my car and squeed about having my pet snake in her lap. Many years later I friended her personal journal, and a few more years later, I friended her professional journal.
And thus was history made.

Odd history.

Found out you Twittered, probably through an Elizabeth Bear retweet, and did a little happy dance since the Toby Daye books are some of the best don't-make-me-feel-like-a-moron-for-reading-this pulp I've found in two years. Resurrected my zombified LJ account 'cause that tends to be where you and Bear put all the cool stuff.

This makes me happy. :)
You're lonely at Borders because YOU'RE ON THE WRONG COAST. People on the West Coast are too cool to come to Borders. Get thee to the nations capital, hopefully when it's not shut down and all like that, and there will be people to mob you at Borders.

Plus I'll bake you cupcakes, and my 12-yr-old thinks you're god.
I approve of your twelve-year-old. :)
I'm a huge Toby fan since your first and now I have to preorder them so I have them the day they come out. I haven't tried your other works yet, but I'm planning on it. And I follow you on Goodreads.
I am glad you're here!
OK, all of the comma/semicolon love, references to Jean Grey, and all around geeky-coolness remind me of the 2004 Worldcon. There, the first guys that I met happened to be a gay couple, who introduced me to their friends, the Gaylaxians, and I thought "Gay Science Fiction fans! These are truly my people!" Then, the Jewish Gaylaxians showed up, and I said "Now. I've truly found my niche. Gay Jewish Science Fiction Fans! These are truly my people!" ...When the gay Jewish Filkers arrived, I exploded with glee.

You guys are TRULY my people!

Muah
Hee.

Yay.
