Velveteen vs. Patrol.

Title: Velveteen vs. Patrol.
Summary: What is there for a formerly retired superheroine who's managed to find herself in the state she was aiming for—good—and somehow thrust back into the public eye (bad) at the very same time? More importantly, now that she's in Oregon, what is she supposed to do?

The list of things Velma had conveniently forgotten during her years of self-imposed isolation from the superhero community was large, and the longer she spent staring at the paperwork required to get a permanent license in the state of Oregon, the longer that list became....Collapse )

I love these!
I'm glad.
Awww! I always enjoy these, and that was a very sweet ending for this installment. Thank you for writing these, and for posting them here!
You're very welcome!
<3 Vel!

I love the way you manage to seamlessly go between humor, action, and sweetness in these stories (among other things).
The universe suits that mode.
It does! It's actually interestingly postmodern -- in that the characters are (some of the time) aware of how absurd things are, while not actually being more absurd (mostly) than your typical four color comics book 'verse.
I continue to love Velma and this entire series, and this is a delightful addition!
Yay!
Yay!! More Vel, and more Isley Bunny (cuz he's a special bunny, he is)
True!
Why do so many heroines wear push-up bodices and stupid headdresses? Because it means that no one's looking at their faces.
Nice! Also “Dead Ringer” is great, as is the scene where she recruits new toys.
some supervillain's mechanizations
Using “mechanizations” instead of “machinations” suggests someone has been replacing DMV employees with lookalike robots. Did I miss a story, or is this foreshadowing?
Whoops! Fixed; thanks for pointing that out.
I admit it freely. I teared up. Wonderful, as always!
Aw, yay. :)
I don't mind admitting that from the moment I met her, I just wanted to hug Vel and never, ever let her go. Please don't ever stop writing about her.

Also, is it just me or does Vel have a lot of friends among the disaffected superhero population? I know people don't tend to hang out with people they don't like, but every non-Super Patriots superhero we've seen her interact with is either a friend or inclined to treat her positively, and there does seem to be an undercurrent among the SP heroes of respect towards her and an inclination to let her go her own way, too (I'm getting that it's the organisation itself that has a problem with her). I'm also getting the idea that Velveteen is one of those superheroes that may not be an absolute favourite but is always among the ones liked best - as in, very few people love the Blue Beetle but everybody likes him.

Also, if you're ever inclined to write it, I'd love to read a Yelena/Sparkle Bright pov - she must be so twisted up in regards to Vel.
There's an upcoming Yelena POV story. Thankfully.
Awww I have missed Velveteen and her 'verse/world although I had forgotten that I was missing them! I would seriously buy an eBook compilation of the stories at some point. When you have time, maybe. If you want to. ;-p
Maybe when I finish the Marketing arc.
I find it incredibly ironic that the woman who never liked superheroes on tv or film or in comic form is in love with this series. But there it is; and you made me cry at the end. Thanks.
Awesome. This makes me happy, and you're very welcome.
I love this series. It manages to be both completely insane and make utter sense at the same time.

And I love how Vel asked the toys at Goodwill if they wanted to come with her.
Thank you!
