In which Seanan returns from a lengthy radio silence with poor excuses, and cookies.

So, um, hey.

Basically, I spent the last weekend at Wondercon, starting every morning when the van came to collect me from my house (door-to-door service!), and ending every night when I collapsed into bed, too tired to think about anything more complicated than convincing the cats to let me have half of the pillow. I had a fabulous time—I always have a fabulous time at Wondercon—but this has left me somewhat behind on silly little things like "keeping up with my blog."

Things I did this weekend:

* Gave a copy of Feed to James Gunn (and did not pass out immediately afterward, although I did feel rather dramatically ill).
* Hung out a great deal with Kaja Foglio, and introduced her to Valencia Street.
* Took Amy Mebberson and her husband, Scott, to Borderlands Books, where they could meet Ash. Ash was incredibly affectionate (especially for her), and provided them with their first real life Sphynx encounter. Jude was charming and gracious, as always, which was especially impressive when you consider that she was also feeling under the weather and suddenly beset by people demanding access to her cat.
* Bought way too many of Amy's fun-size art cards. I have a Rapunzel/Emma Frost mash-up!
* Chatted with Carla Speed McNeil, and Layn, whom I hadn't seen in way too long.
* Donated prizes to the California Browncoats, which they gave away as part of their charity chopstick pull for Equality Now. (I also discussed the Rising, and the fact that, during the outbreak at SDCC, the Browncoats were probably one of two fannish groups that managed to survive without major casualties. May have been the losing side. It's still the one that gets you home alive.)
* Attended the Doctor Who panel, and got an awesome new shirt courtesy of BBCA!

Things I did yesterday:

* Answered lots of email.
* Bought lots of plane tickets.
* Wrote lots of words on Blackout and "Velveteen vs. the Secret Identity."
* Watched Being Human after my orgy of productivity caused me to collapse.

Things I will do today:

* Answer lots of email.
* Buy lots of plane tickets.
* Write lots of words on Blackout and "Velveteen vs. the Secret Identity."
* Prep lots of mailing.
* Start working on my taxes (shudder).

So that's what's consumed my world and time for these last four largely silent days. What's new and strange with all of you?

I had a Bloated Mouse Corpse Experience. Perhaps it's time to fix the leak under the laundry sink, instead of just emptying the bucket... or at least empty the bucket more frequently. Ick.
Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.

Saw a tornado earlier today. Dramatic, but I don't think it touched down. Better than coffee for a wakeup! Central Florida is rocking today.

...I think I'm glad I'm here, not there. Stay safe.

Curiosity impels me to ask what the other group was. The 501st?
Yup. Best armor spread out over a large, organized group with security training.

What's new and strange with...you?

My new batch of Cream Earl Grey tea seems to curdling in the half-and-half. Or mebbe the latter's gone off (although the box wasn't puffy and it's well before the Sell By date). I shan't actually check the latter now though, as I wanna enjoy my tea (as best I can under the circs) and knowing it's gone off would make me stop whereas mere curdling b'c of whatEVER in the tea's somehow okay (at least for right now).

Glad you had a wonderful time at WonderCon!
Are you putting the cream in first, or adding the cream to the tea? Sometimes, with citrus teas, adding the cream to the tea curdles it. Try putting the cream in your cup first, then pouring in the tea...

I made a cooking video starring my parrot.

I think this highlights how weird both my bird and I are.

(I also started thinking about sending out this quarter's royalty statements, and had a minor freakout about how to market the book that isn't selling very well. Sigh.)
AWESOME.

I'm working my way through the pile of to-be-read books. Am currently reading Holly Black's YA Ironside series. Pretty fun (and quick) read. And age appropriate to share with my teenage neice! How cool is that?

And I'm re-watching all of Guillermo del Toro's movies. I saved Mimic for last because Mira Sorvino is so yummy.
Oh, excellent.
Over the weekend, I worked on my thesis, worked (slinging coffee) at my day job, realized that Sunil was in Edinburgh and tried to suggest fun things, and applied for jobs for next year.
Today, I had a telephone meeting with my thesis advisor; booked a plane ticket to NY for food (Passover Seder), friends, fun (I hope to catch a show or two) and the twice a year doc visit; and went online to Amazon to pre-order "Deadline." I was surprised to find "Apocalypse Scenario #683," and even more surprised to find that there's a free Kindle app for my Blackberry. So, right now, I'm downloading the app. Then, it's back to Amazon to order my Mira goodness!
Speaking of Blackberries, I began a Toby theme for my Blackberry, which I'll happily eventually show to you for approval, and, if granted, share with anyone interested. I'm finding that 2 things would be useful: 1)Someone with more than my limited artistic ability (I need a simple drawing, for instance, of a dwindling candle, for the the "Power Meter) and 2)Advice from someone familiar with Blackberry theme creation. Anyone out there wanna help?
Fabulous.
After reading your post I googled Amy Mebberson. I was checking out her deviant art page, and her pinup of Edna Mode from the Incredibles almost made me spew tea all over my keyboard. Thank you for the indirect brightening of my day!
Very welcome!
"What's new and strange with all of you?"

New: Back is starting to feel better and I am cautiously optimistic.
OMG I wrote a poem, hurray!
Made a crazy good burnt sugar Bundt cake.
Hooked two friends on MLP: FiM
Cleaned fridge of Jarred Horrible Surprises.
Have _Black Swan_ and really want to plan an Unhinged Horror Ballerinas
movie night double (hee) featured with _Suspiria_.

Strange: Had weird dreams.
One of the hamsters keeps trying to bury her water dish. It doesn't work out very well.

Actually, this isn't all that new or strange, but there you have it.:)

(If you ever feel the need oh, *please* write the story of the Browncoat SDCC Survivors!:))
It's exceedingly unlikely, unless I'm dead broke, totally insane, or bribed by my publisher.

I've returned from a solid week of ILLITERAL (read: "far too busy aaagh," see http://silmaril.livejournal.com/717014.html?thread=5928662 for context) thanks to the Law Revue, and now am ready to get back to all of the niggling details of life I've been ignoring. Such as, applying for the bar exam and getting my graduation tickets. Holy crap.
Yay!
I might have to purchase Caffeinated Marshmallows. For work. On their dime. My life is very strange sometimes.

...yes. Yes, it is.

I've discovered that I gave up saying NO for Lent. I didn't mean to! It just...happened. I am...a DOPE.
Whoops.
Hrm. New is that starting this week, work will be training me to run embroidery machines. Should be fun! Strangest thing around my world is the ongoing Wacky Dream Theater (the other night, folks were doing parkour in an empty stadium while wearing tinfoil bathing suits).
Neat!
New and strange - I bought a bunch of veggies and fruits at the local farmer's market on Saturday. I then spent the rest of Saturday processing them into forms in which I will eat. (I don't tend to like plant matter - apples exceptions, so this was work).

Today, for lunch I have goat cheese and beets, creamed dilled cucumbers, and slivered strawberries. Also (cheese and chicken and pita, but I am a carnivore).

Actual plant matter with lunch. It feels.... odd.

And my method of minting the water for lemonade worked, so I have been having very tart, mint lemonade. It was awesome. Now I just have to figure out how to get the cucumber taste in there.
Lovely!
And woohoo! You made my day by mentioning you were writing new Velveteen.
Yay!
Gave a copy of Feed to James Gunn
ZOMG.

Attended the Doctor Who panel, and got an awesome new shirt courtesy of BBCA!
Eeeeee, what is it? I keep being tempted by all the DW shirts here.

Damn, you are buying a lot of plane tickets. I should probably start looking for Comic-Con plane tickets, huh.
It's got the Doctor in his Stetson, with some American iconography around him, because it's the BBCA shirt.
I discovered that Stephen King and John Mellencamp are doing a horror musical together.
AWESOME.

Life is good.
I have now watched Inception, having managed to avoid serious spoilers for nine months. My world is consequently a weirder place, as Cobb is a dead ringer for my high-school-era ex, and apparently they have similar concepts of what a 'good idea' actually is.
That level of spoiler avoidance probably counts as a superpower. Wow.

New and strange! Well, the being sick part, no. Waking up at 3am to do a school trip to the statue of liberty, returning at 11pm the same day, maybe. Updating a contract, originally made when I was 17, so now I have non-exclusive e-rights to a 200-word story? (And the anthology now has a slightly better chance of being reprinted electronically, with royalties and justice for all.) New and pleasing, at least!

You hung out with Kaja Foglio /and/ Carla Speed McNeil? So cool!
They're nice ladies and I am very fond of them.
I just moved, so my entire apartment is new and strange to me.
Hee! Awesome.
So that's what's consumed my world and time for these last four largely silent days. What's new and strange with all of you?

EMAILS. Dear Great Pumpkin, do I have emails. I'm beginning to feel like I need a secretary. I'm not entirely certain what brought on the sudden onslaught. I have 22 email threads in my inbox since 12am, and a number of them have between 2 and 14 emails in the threads, and I'm not including the ones I deleted after opening. That's in less than 16 hours. Today.

I'M GONNA DROWN IN A SEA OF ELECTRONIC WORDS. [Or be electrocuted?]

And that's just my school email. It doesn't include my private email, my facebook, my livejournal, the message board I help moderate...

How on earth do you keep up with the volume of messages you get, Seanan?
By apologizing a lot when people yell at me for answering too slowly, mostly.
Which Being Human? The UK one or the American one?
Very pleased to see new Velveteen. Thankyou.
The North American. I'm enjoying it a great deal.
