Seventy-five days. When will you rise?

As of today, we are seventy-five days from the release of Deadline [Amazon]|[Mysterious Galaxy], the second book in the Newsflesh Trilogy, and the direct sequel to Feed.

This is the weirdest feeling. Feed started as a thought-experiment, a way of studying the possible behavior of virological "zombies" in a post-Rising world. I wanted to poke at the idea that maybe, humanity was bad-ass enough to survive an apocalypse of its own making, and see if we could come to terms with the zombie virus, the way we've come to terms with so many other viruses throughout our history. It's less smallpox and more Marburg, not quite stopped, but...handled a bit better than it might have been.

It was always meant to be a stand-alone. Even when I was getting excited about the book, it was a stand-alone, no sequels, no second chances. But then GP asked me, when I was complaining about a particularly tricky plot point, "Why do your zombies have to be dead?" And suddenly, they didn't have to be, and I had to revise 200 pages of text...

...and there were sequels. Two of them. A trilogy, which wound up titled "Newsflesh" (after the original title of book one), but could as easily have been called "Seanan fucks with the Masons." And it was huge and scary and maybe I could do it, if I tried really hard.

And now the second book is coming out. And I'm both impatient and nowhere near ready.

When will you rise?

Yay! I suspect I may even buy two copies on the day just to throw one at my friend so I can have someone to talk to about it.
Works for me.

Day one. Day friggin one.
YAY.
I'm buying (at least) one for me and one for the bookkeeper at my office, who I gave a copy of Feed, and who, the next time shaw me, greeted me not with "Hello" or "How are you" but "THAT WAS THE BEST BOOK I'VE EVER READ IN MY LIFE."

:D
AWESOME.

Best Vixy ever.
I bought 7 copies of Feed. I only intended to buy 6, but one fell apart. I expect to do the same with Deadline.
I have to ask -- hoarding or gifts? :-)

Preordered; now I just have to figure out how to trick Amazon's Kindle server into thinking it's May 31. I'm going to have to get a loaner copy, because my dead tree Feed hasn't spent a night at home in months, and there's a waiting list. This was not a deliberate ploy to make the waiting people buy their own, but it might work out that way.

The audio version makes a good jogging companion, I discovered this morning. I'm doing the Couch to 5K program (... again), and every time it tells me I can walk, I'm like, "But the zombies will eat my face!"
Woo!
Incidentally, I just got my co-worker to read 'Feed'. He just popped up from his cubicle with a look of outrage going "They just killed the _daughter! While the dude was on _stage_!!"

...all I could do was grin cryptically and say "it could be worse...at least you haven't _met_ the daughter." :-P

I'm half afraid he's going to pop a gasket before the book's over. But if he survives, I think you may have another fan.
Oh, boy.

Yeah, his head may explode.

You aren't the only one who's impatient for it.
I'm not impatient.

I'm afraid.
I have one paper and one ebook copy of Feed and plan to do the same with the other two. I'm going to try to get my nearest and dearest hooked.
Yay!
I look forward to again being able to go into a non-niche bookstore and buy a book by you again. I was so excited buying Feed! Especially when I saw they had it in the 'our staff recommends' section just after it came out!
Oh, that's brilliant.

And yeah, it's weird and wonderful having a UK publisher for the Newsflesh books. You should fully encourage your UK publishers to pick up Toby.
I can hardly wait!!
Yay!
On one hand I MUST READ Deadline but on the other I think I might be more satisfied (and less stressed?) reading it back-to-back with Blackout.

Of course, I'll buy copies of Deadline when it's released!!!

Note: I am very happy to read standalone novels!
As long as you buy copies, I'm happy. :) And I think you may be pleasantly surprised by the book's non-stressfulness.

Good!
I'm guessing in about 75 days when I buy Deadline. I may have even turned a guy at work onto this series. He mentioned that he was into the whole zombie thing and my first question was: Have you read Feed?
Awesome!
I will be buying at least two copies, plus another copy of Feed if my brother doesn't replace mine before then. Not that mine is lost, it's just that other people had it for about 6 months, I finally got it back and...yeah. I need a loaner copy of Deadline. I'm way too picky about the state of my books. Even my favorite books take a long time to get more than a little wear-and-tear from re-reading. I'm careful. Other people are not. *is horrified at the state of Feed's spine*

I do not seem to have an appropriate zombie-esque user icon. I must fix this, with the Feed ones on your site, if nothing else.
I'm with you on buying multiple copies of anything I want to loan out. My mother cracked the spine of my semi-pristine Mermaid's Song, and I'm still giving her shit about it (and may until one of us dies).
In seventy-five days, whether employed or not, I shall enter my Friendly Local Bookstore and locate a copy of Deadline, or I shall Know The Reason Why.

(My apologies for the usage of Excessive Capitalization. I'm in a Mood.)
YAY!
Looking forward to it!
Good!
So excited for this because Feed was AWESOME.

Semi-random aside: NH primary season is about to start again. Zombies would add so much flair.
I totally agree with this statement.

It's a May 31st release, so yeah, you should be able to get it at the con!
My favorite _Feed_ story so far:

One of my best friends is a progressive Old Catholic priest who is my pastor. A couple years ago he met his soul mate, and they got married. She teaches moral theology at the Jesuit School of Theology Berkeley.

I was at their house in December, and I noticed a well-read copy of _Feed_ on their living room bookshelf. I turned to John, and said, "Have you read that?" He said, "No, that's Lisa's." Lisa and I then went all fan-girl non-spoiler until he left the room, and then proceeded to talk about the heavy-duty spoiler plot lines.

There is a female Christian moral theologian with a PhD from Harvard Divinity School who likes _Feed._ Thought you might want to know that :-) I will be sure to remind her when the second one is out.
Okay, that's awesome.
Whhhhhyyyyyyyyyyyy isn't it May 31 yet?

Also, two copies pre-ordered for me and the cousin. Seriously, I've been hungry like a zombie for the sequel.
Because if it were May 31st now, I would have completely blown my deadline for Blackout, and book three would be delayed indefinitely while I had a nervous breakdown.
I am so excited to be able to dive back into this world! Am seriously considering printing up "Not dead, READING" notices for a couple of days after I get it, because I have a strong feeling that I'll be incommunicado. (and entirely probably eyeing my home's zombie defensibility quotient)
And because I tend to have random attacks of creativity late at night, the notice:

go away or I will ignore you some more

I will rise in seventy-five days, and stagger, moaning, with arms outstretched, to the bookstore.

Okay, maybe not all of that, I don't want to scare the nice employees. Even if I do have a wicked-good recipe for fake blood.
