Bits and pieces for a rainy Wednesday.

1. I have done mailing! Very nearly all the mailing, in point of fact; the only things that are a) paid for/contest prizes, and b) still in my possession are Lu's posters (trying to make sure I didn't double-pack them) and seawench's ARC (returned by the post office, only just got confirmation that it was safe to ship a second time). So there is no mail waiting for me to do something with it! I dance the dance of joy.

2. Since this weekend is the Traveling Circus and Snake-Handling Show's fourth appearance at Borderlands, my mother's been cleaning my house from stem to stern, to get it ready for company. This, naturally, upsets the cats. Thomas has been expressing his displeasure by sulking in the kitchen and knocking over the trash can. He doesn't seem to understand that neither of these behaviors is going to do anything beyond getting him scooped and scolded.

3. Having assessed my current stress levels and their effect on my ability to get things done, I have taken a major step toward reducing them. Namely, I have set aside the to-be-read pile, turning my back on all those beguiling new stories and unfamiliar authors, and have picked up my dearest, most faithful literary companion: I am re-reading Stephen King's IT for the first time in well over a year. This is seriously the longest I have gone without reading this book since I was nine. So yes, it will be sweet balm for my stressed-out soul.

4. Safeway has two-liters of Diet Dr Pepper on sale for eighty-eight cents this week. This, too, is sweet balm for my stressed-out soul, but in a different way. A more hyperactive, I CAN SEE THROUGH TIME, kind of a way.

5. Still on the New York Times bestseller list. I check every day, just to see if I'm still there. Call it part of my monitoring routine against dimensional slide, and let it go. I feel like I should do something to celebrate, like another round of book giveaways or something, but that's going to have to wait until my capacity to cope catches up with the rest of me. Say around next Tuesday, at the current rate.

6. I am the Rain King.

7. Last night's episode of Glee made me happy the way the show used to make me happy in season one, and that was a wonderful thing. I'm glad I bought the soundtrack before the episode actually aired; it let me get used to the original songs the way I am to the covers, and assess the performance on the show based on the actual performance, not on "WAIT WHAT THE HELL ARE THEY SINGING." It's a thing.

8. Last night I dreamt a detailed remake of Nightmare on Elm Street, updated for the modern era, without sucking righteously. It was scary and strange and really awesome, and it says something about my psyche that I still don't think it was a nightmare. Sadly, I woke up before the end. Stupid alarm clock.

9. The bigger my cats get, the more I realize that I need a bigger bed. Which means I need a bigger bedroom. Which means I need a bigger house. Anyone know where I can find Dr. Wayne Szalinski's shrinking/enlarging ray?

10. Zombies are love, be excellent to one another, and party on, dudes.

Hurrah! I would be checking too.
It's SO SURREAL.
Something that might make you happy:
I hosted a practice recently for some of us who are backing Karen Linsley at her upcoming FilKOntario concert. As people were packing up, I turned on iTunes, which came up with Wicked Girls as its first song. Karen hadn't heard it before. It was fun watching her go from speechless to declaring such things as "That's amazing!" and "That deserves a Pegasus!"

Just thought you'd like to know that you've 'infected' one more filker. :-)
I'd be a bit careful using the word "infected" about Seanan....

Glee made me very happy last night too. I was terrified that the original songs would be terrible and they'd still win due to, you know, plot reasons but I actually liked both of them. I was glad I stayed up late to watch it after my dinner guest left.
The whole episode was great. I was pleasantly surprised.
Hang on - you're making sense! I thought you said that wouldn't be happening today!!!

All hail stress reduction techniques - may they work and reduce your stress to the normal manageable levels (but not too far below them as I'm not sure how you'd deal with a shortage of stress in your life - it might get messy).

*hugs*
Don't worry; much like small children, the cats are good at making sure I at least get my RDA of stress!
I don't know where to get a Dr. Wayne Szalinski's shrinking/enlarging ray however the artificer in my D&D group has a staff of Shrothing which does the same thing. Would that help?
Yes!
#3 -- yes, I have been / am doing that (not with that specific book, but still). I actually delayed reading Late Eclipses to finish one of my rereads, and Zombiesquee is behind my current reread.

Also, you have cats to keep you (in)sane. I wish you furriness. And a bigger house...
Rereading is a very important thing, I think.

Hooray for re-reading!

I anticipate the Borderlands adventure with great glee! Is there anything in particular that you might want people/me to bring aside from ourselves, our glee/squee/good manners, our books-for-signing, and our budget for getting books there and supporting the kind hosts?
I think all those things are brilliant to bring, personally. Remember that you can't get Whedonistas there, as it's a media tie-in.
I sometimes must remind myself that even good/happy stress is still stress, and that I must take care of myself appropriately.

No shrink ray here, but wouldn't it be nice if our living spaces could expand or shrink as needed? So they could always be Just The Right Size? I don't have growing cats, but this would certainly help with my bookshelves and yarn stash...
That would be brilliant.
I just added 5 copies of Rosemary and Rue to my library's collection :)
Squee!

Poster arrived at my home yesterday! Some kind of transdimensional L-space thing, probably...
Oh, brilliant! Thanks for letting me know. :)
May this weekend be lovely and bolster your spirits as needed.

I seriously...this week's Glee was everything I loved in season one, and have hated in this season so far.
Hah, I hate it when alarm clocks ruin a dream. So far I've managed twice to fall asleep again (that's nothing special really) AND to dream part two of the dream (that is!). Must practise more.
Wow. The fact that you did it at all is amazing.

I grew up sleeping on a single bed. Not a twin (which is half a king) but half a double bed, aka a single.

By the time I was in college the mattress springs had popped through the top. Mom realized this when she asked where all the spare blankets were and I showed her how I'd laid them (folded to fit the mattress top) between the mattress and the bottom sheet.

My parents gave me a double bed when I got my AA degree. TWICE the width! It took more room in my room, but I coped. It was amazing to be able to spread my limbs and still be on the bed. I loved my bed.

About 8 years later I adopted a Maine Coon. We coped, mainly because I hadn't forgotten how to sleep on a single. I did upgrade to a queen a few years later. With the queen-size I got almost half the bed to sleep on.

Then I got married....
Your springs popping through the mattress story reminds me of one of my own.

When I was little, probably somewhere around 8 years old, the mattress I had eventually had springs, not poking through, but very prominent in some spots. My mother didn't know this until an aunt stayed over and slept in my bed. After my aunt complained, my mom asked me about it and I explained how there was a spot on the bed where I fit right in between the springs until I fell asleep, when I didn't care. I got a new mattress soon after that.

Umm calmly but slightly inpatient to get a response to my last email about mailings. Tuesday works I will sit on my hands till then.

Dublelee
Um.

Email response times are NEVER guaranteed with me. I say that often and loudly. I just don't have the bandwidth. As noted above, in this entry, all pending mailing has now been done; that includes yours. I still don't know what happened to the first posters. Hopefully these arrive. If they do not, hopefully at least one tube will come back to me, as yours is the only mail to go missing and not be returned by the post.

Since this constitutes a response, I hope you won't mind if I now do not reply to the email.

..... Oh, how I wish the Nightmare on Elm Street remake we actually got had been anything like awesome. They forgot it was supposed to be fun. *sigh*
I know.

I was not amused.
Ah, a mission to fulfill whilst I'm at Epcot this month. Last time I saw it, it was stashed at the Imagination Institute...

Oh Figment? I have a job for you...
So, I just discovered you're on LJ. (Fail on my part for not figuring that out earlier.)

Zombies are love, be excellent to one another, and party on, dudes.
Zombies are FTW.
I'm sad I only have one Zombie icon. However I just re-blogged an awesome zombie version of Audrey Hepburn that I want as an icon!
I'm not recognizing your handle; are we RL friends, or are you just awesome? :)
