In which Seanan becomes a New York Times bestselling author.

Friday night, I was chilling at my computer when an acquaintance of mine congratulated me. On what?, I wondered. A link was provided. I clicked the link. The link took me to the New York Times Best Sellers, which seemed like a bit of a cruel joke, since I would have known if I had made the list. Right? Right?

I scrolled down the list.

Late Eclipses, the fourth October Daye adventure, held the #32 slot.

I stared at it for a few minutes before calling Vixy and asking her to click the link. I didn't tell her why, because let's face it, I wanted to know if she could see it, too. She made inquisitive noises as she scrolled...and then she started shrieking. Okay, so yeah. She could see it.

Lots of screaming and flailing followed, as well as a phone tree that managed to double back on itself about seventeen times. Oxygen was not a priority. The Agent eventually returned my call, and then we spent a lovely half-hour or so going "Oh my God" a lot, which is basically what I was hoping she would do (sometimes, being coherent is for other people). The cats watched all of this with disdain, thus proving that the essential laws of reality had not changed, and eventually, I watched Fringe and went to bed.

I'm a New York Times bestselling author. Me.

I still can't believe I'm not asleep.

P.S Buying my copy of Late Eclipses was way more work than it should have been. I waited until Saturday of release week & it *still* wasn't on the shelves at Borders. I finally convinced someone to ignore the computer & look for it in the back. However, the clerk who was ringing up my other purchases asked what the book I couldn't find was about. She turned out to be a major fantasy fan & claimed she was absolutely going to start Rosemary & Rue as soon as she finished her current book. So, another minion for your horde.

I had to wait until the weekend for my Borders to get it too. They're just bad at getting new releases on the first day.

Also, hooray for calling up a friend for screaming and flailing! (Much more satisfying than fainting, I'm sure. Besides which, it occurred to me that perhaps you should save fainting for being in the top twenty. Or maybe the top ten.)

I'M TOTALLY FLAILING ON YOUR BEHALF, DUDE!!!

Also, I just finished the book last week and you totally deserve it. Best so far. I....almost cried, and only didn't because I was in a bakery cafe at the time and didn't to embarrass myself. It wasn't easy.

Also-also: May is awesome. I want my own Fetch!

Much as I don't normally Pay Attention to such accolades, I know this is wonderful for you. Now, I am going to finish "An Artificial Night" so I can dive into "Late Eclipses". I have been on a marathon reading binge and made sure the Toby books were in the haul.
