I cannot brain today. I have the tired, and the office cold has decided to hang out in my head, making me slow and lurgy and reluctant to commit to anything more strenuous than sitting around my bedroom, not putting on pants.
So here is a picture of Thomas cuddling with Amberlee the velociraptor, intended to signal that this post is an open thread. Tell me things! Any sort of things you want. Also, I am declaring amnesty from my normal "answer all comments" policy. So I may answer comments on this thread, and I may not. Either way, my psychotically cute kitten will be snuggling with a dinosaur, and that proves that life is AWESOME.
I just put a batch of apricot-scorpion scones in the oven at work. Yes, the scorpions are real. I find it frightening that they smell so wonderfully delicious.
Um. I have my first reading on Thursday (the 17th) and am a little freaked by that happening. I can hide in the pit at newspapers as one more Faceless Journalist, but I cannot do this hiding thing so well when it comes to fiction. Shit.
My cats are spending every day laying in the sun. Spring is coming. I am crazy over worked right now. I want a nap. I will probably just read Feed again between defragging and virus scans. woo.
I have a strange inability to walk in the middle of the sidewalk, or if I do, I have to step on the cracks with alternating feet if possible. If there's any obstacle that won't get my feet soaked, I will walk on that instead of the sidewalk. If there's one icy half and one clear half? I walk on the ice. I occasionally walk (or run) through puddles if I have my rainboots on. Otherwise, I walk on the edge, or a raised part of the sidewalk, or the border between the sidewalk and the dirt/grass, and so on.
Also, that picture is made of win. <3 cats. I went home for four days. One of my cats didn't forgive me in time to snuggle at night before I left, making me sad. :(
I think that my elderly mare, Sadie, has begun faking having an absess in her foot just so that she can have the opportunity to stand in a bucket of hot water and epsom salts for 1/2 an hour a day. Seriously, you have never seen a horse happier to be standing in a bucket!
I just re-watched "The Company of Wolves." I had no idea that (a) Angela Carter wrote the screenplay and that (b) it was based on one of the short stories in her collection "The Bloody Chamber." I've read Tanith Lee's "Red As Blood", but haven't read Carter's book yet. Must now go track down a copy and read it.
I used to have a cat, SoCo, who would climb under the covers so I could spoon her. I'd wake up with a warm cat snuggled against me, her head lying on my arm and the rest of her stretched out so that her feet would touch my knees. If she couldn't climb under the covers by herself, I'd wake up to a soft paw nudging my shoulder until I let her in.
Also, I got to see a version of Romeo and Juliet last night that had been taped at the Globe Theatre. It's a little odd to watch a play that's been recorded with zooming-in and all that. The blocking that has the actors facing all the different sides of the stage looks like frenetic pacing on tape, and the big, dramatic gestures looked melodramatic. Also, they needed to pan out on the swordfights.
But still, it was enjoyable, and I thought of you. I smacked myself in the head during some of Mercutio's lines, because it had been a while since I'd read the play, and I never caught the connection.
tl;dr: I'm tired, too, and I babble when I'm tired.
which is to say, I've been a busy human over here. The essay went a whooooole lot better with your help, and I can't wait to get it back. I ended with the quote about rock 'n roll, be brave, be true, stand, all the rest is darkness. Also, I realized that Stan-the-kid believed in phoenixes, while Stan-the-adult didn't, and that kind of broke my heart. Poor Stan.
It is the day of teh sick, I think. After two days home from work, I actually worked from home today (yes, I do thank my lucky stars for having a job where I can do that on occasion.). Oh, I have never been so happy to have a few fairly brainless tasks on my to do list. Any other day I'd have been bored out of my mind, but for today it was just perfect.
Thank you for the cuteness! That did brighten my evening. Hope you feel better soon. Drink your fluids, get your rest, and snuggle the fuzzies - they're good for your immune system. :-)
I was b-day shopping at Borders for my soon to be 10 year old nephew and checked the available status of a certain author's newest Toby book...computer says no. As I went to find the Star Wars books, I checked the shelf anyway and THERE IT WAS!! I got the only copy in the store--the one that supposedly wasn't there! Hooray! Also found a Star Wars novel with a FEMALE Jedi as the protagonist...guess what my nephew is getting? Double serving of awesome! I love the "one for you, one for ME!" karma!
Just wanted to let you know that I've been rereading the October Daye books in prep to read Late Eclipses and have found not only how incredibly rereadable they are, but how much is being set up that I didn't even notice the first time around.
1. Modeled for a faerie porn site. 2. Used to drink hot sauce when much, much younger (I still have a hot tooth but have to be careful with it). 3. My favorite outfit combo of all time is large full skirt, fitted top and bloomers underneath. 4. Was supposed to be born in March but showed up in January. 5. Worked in a rare book room for the summer, which was one of my few favorite jobs ever. 6. Love tiki drinks. 7.Have two pet hamsters named To Mini Therion and Bianca.
I just supplied Late Eclipses to Aunt Julia, who tells me that not only is SHE hooked on this series and on Feed, so is at least one of her friends. She's planning to stay up late tonight for reading. WIN.

Showing that nature can be just as interesting as fiction.

And as an added bonus, dramatic kitty is being dramatic!
Oh...and this little kitty is now pissed at me because I just pulled another mat out.

Poor Stan.
That book is why I often sign things with "be brave, be true, fly."

Late Eclipses was awesome.
I was sad you were only at Consonance briefly so I didn't get to say hello but deadlines are obviously more important.
I have tickets to the Glee Concert in San Jose in May because I'm silly that way.

Pardon me for simply linking you - it's better than trying to paraphrase, and gives you the option of not bothering. Though I certainly hope you will.
These are “Writer's Block” replies, and the first two are directly related; the third is… well, just nice, I think. Maybe even sniffle-worthy.
