7 things you can do to help.

Well, here we are. Late Eclipses [Amazon]|[Mysterious Galaxy] comes out in one week, exactly. If past trends hold true*, people will begin reporting sightings in the wild any day now. This will either cause me to clap my hands, cry, hyperventilate, or all of the above. Safe money is, as always, on "all of the above." And so here are seven things you can do to help with this book release!

7. Talk about the book. Are you excited that it's coming? Awesome. Are you excited about the series as a whole? Awesome. Do you plan to use Late Eclipses to fuel your world-buster canon? Rock on. Word-of-mouth is the best advertising there is.

6. Review the book. Do it on your blog, on Amazon, on Goodreads, wherever you feel comfortable. Reviews help more than almost anything else. (But please, please, do not send me copies of your Amazon reviews. I try to avoid that particular pitcher plant of pain.)

5. Loan copies of Rosemary and Rue to people you think might be interested. The first hit's free!

4. Do not poke at me with sharp, sharp sticks. I am a very thinly-stretched blonde right now, on account of book release and all, and I am neither fast to respond nor particularly well-suited to being jabbed at. Please, be gentle, and understand that right now, you're looking at a longer than normal response time.

3. I love fan mail, and I respond to everything I get, although it can sometimes take a while. Please don't get upset if I don't answer right away.

2. Also? Please don't ask for kitten pictures. Seriously.

1. And the number-one thing you can do to help Late Eclipses have a successful launch is...buy the book. Please, please, buy the book. During the first on-sale week if you possibly can, because that's the week that counts against all the bestseller lists. Making those lists is a long shot, but a girl's gotta dream, right? So if you're planning to buy the book, please, go out and do it. Let's see if we can hit the NYT.

If we do, I promise to faint.

(*Past trends may not hold true. Traditionally, early copies have been spotted at Borders, and I don't know whether Borders will be receiving any shipments of Late Eclipses. I actually dare to hope that my on-sale date may be accurate this time.)

I'd offer to look at my Borders, but they're one of the ones closing, so probably aren't getting any new books. On the other hand, I'll probably head by a couple more times to loot the corpse pick up discount books, so if they happened to have shipped them early and have only now gotten them on the shelves...

... but this means I'll have to order it off the web, since we've got two used bookstores, campus bookstores with a shelf of SF, and a Barnes and Nobles that's across town*. (I don't think we have any new independents.)

* And a pain in the neck to get to via bus from my apartment.
Yeah, and right now, there's no guarantee that a book purchased at Borders will actually equate to dollars being paid to my publisher. Tragic but true.
Just got my tax return and Late Eclipses was one of the first things I ordered (after bill paying). It's going to be a competition to see if this or 'Name of the Wind' gets read first (as they're shipping together).
Yay!

I've had it pre-ordered since September, and it should be in my hot little hands as of March 2nd or 3rd per Amazon. I am terribly excited. :)
Yay!
Honestly, this and Serpent's Storm being released soon are two of the main things that got me through Valentine's Day. I think my babbling about the Toby Daye series to various customers may have earned you a few fans. Or lost us some customers... Yeah, I will probably be at my brother's bookstore first thing on Tuesday.
This makes me very happy. Truly.
I can't wait! I'm so excited for Late Eclipses, and I've been passing the other Toby books around my closest friends (the ones who can be trusted to actually return it/the ones I live close to so I can shake them down if they hang on to the books too long).
I'm sure you've already got this covered, but please keep us posted on any readings that might be happening :) I divide my time pretty evenly between Oakland and San Francisco, and I'd love to attend any promo events you might be doing.
Seconded on the readings, please. Though I'd like one out in the far East Bay.

First thing I do upon waking up March 1st? Downlaod the book to my Nook. Last thing I'll do before going to sleep? Review it, as I will have finished it. Will anything else get accomplished that day? You know it won't. But I've already planned for that. The day one of your books comes out, I'm going to miss everything that happens. It's proven to be the case, so this time, it's in the planning.
Woo!
I loaned out Rosemary and Rue this weekend. :)

In anticipation of the new book coming out, and 'cause I found someone I hadn't loaned it to that I thought might like the series.
Awesome!

Yay!
Going onto my Nook.

I gave my copies of Rosemary and Rue and A Local Habitation a good home, since I have them all in digital now.

Yes. I bought your books twice. :)
YAY!
I'll get it as soon as I can! Amazon UK are showing as "out of stock" already...
My preorder which has been with them since 17 Jan 2011 says

"Dispatch Estimate: 7 April 2011

Delivery Estimate: 9 April 2011 - 12 April 2011"

I am not entirely thrilled by that....

PS

When is the audio book out as the person doing the reading does a great job and I have an audible subscription....

Gah! I couldn't preorder until today because was waiting for money and as of today the initial UK shipment is sold out and it costs a pound more! The fact that the initial shipment is sold out is good for you, though :D And I have preordered, so it should turn up eventually. Making stuff out of AAN just means I am anticipating even more!
Yay!
I just got my copy today from Barnes & Noble! Bwah-ha-ha!!!!

I pre-ordered it. Is it better to buy it in-store on the release date or do pre-orders also count towards the best seller list? If not, I guess I'll be buying Deadline and the next Toby novel in-store as soon as they're released.
Wait. Are you saying you actually received a physical copy of the book today, or that you ordered it today?

Pre-orders count. Books acquired before the actual on-sale date do not.

Yay!
good luck!
Thanks!
mine's been on preorder since preorder came available. waiting on pins and needles.
Yay!
I plan to buy mine just as soon as I get my paycheck :)
Yay!
I'm starting my re-read of An Artificial Night today.

My copy of LE is ordered, and now I just have to wait for the bookstore to call. I'm experimenting if it's faster to get them to order a hard copy in for me, or for Amazon/Chapter's online shipping which seems to dislike sending me things on their release dates.
That's awesome!
Pre-ordered a while back. Just got my "it's coming" email from Amazon. Trying to think who I can gift with R&R out of the blue today as a surprise:)
Squee!
Not that you have to answer now, because it does look like a crazy and wild week, but are you going to have a party for Late Eclipses anywhere in the Bay Area? I need to decide whether to buy it at Amazon (so as not to have to leave the house and the dissertation for it) or to go and buy it at an event.
I am! The details on the Borderlands event are on my website, and I'm working on setting something up with the Other Change of Hobbit.
I meant to reread Rosemary and Rue at work, then accidentally left it there, and my coworker called about it and asked if she could borrow it, so I said yes.

I doubt Kinokuniya here will stock Late Eclipses exactly on March 1, being as there tends to be a delay of one to three months between a US release and its subsequent release in Singapore (unless it's really anticipated like HP or Twilight), but if I can't get it by April, meh, I'll get to SF eventually. (And if I can get a copy before I get there, perfect reading material on Greyhound!)
Excellent.
I'm planning on doing a Geek Girls Rule! Podcast tonight, and this is yet more material for it! I'll let you know when it's up.
Yay!

Good to know.
I preordered my paper copy a while back. Now that I'm also an official member of the ebook club, I'll buy the ebook as soon as I get some extra monies.

I'd buy the audio version, but it doesn't look like Brilliance Audio is making one. I emailed them asking about it yesterday, but they haven't responded yet.
Yeah, right now, it's not in the hopper; if enough people ask about it, maybe it will be.
Yeah, I got the call that my paper copy was in at the B&N on Saturday. (and book is amazing! all my friends can tell you I haven't shut up about it for days now.)

But I will make up for the buying-it-early by also getting it for my kindle on the first?
That works!

Also, yay! Glad you like it.
