LATE ECLIPSES ARC giveaway #3: Just the FAQs.

Whee! Time for another ARC giveaway! Once again, I'm giving away an ARC of Late Eclipses, the fourth book in the October Daye series, which comes out in twenty-seven days. So you could get an early chance to find out what's going on! Also, I'm actually giving away two books this time. Curious? Read on!

If you've been to my website recently, you may have noticed that my Toby FAQs are a trifle, well, sparse. Whole books are missing. Since I'm getting ready to shuffle things around to make room for InCryptid, I'd like to fix this. So here's what you need to do to enter today's ARC giveaway:

1) Leave a comment on this entry containing a suggested question for one of my FAQs. FAQ-type questions only, please, like "Is the date at the beginning of An Artificial Night correct?" or "Why has Quentin's hair changed color?", not "Will Toby and Tybalt ever get together?" or "Is there going to be a movie?"

2) Leave the comment on its own, please, not as a reply to someone else's comments. Comments on comments can't win, even if they have the BEST QUESTION EVER.

3) That's all.

Now here's the twist: I will be choosing two winners. One will be chosen by the random number generator, cruel mistress that it is, and the other will be chosen by me, based purely on my personal "that's the BEST question" reaction. Also, I will use your questions to improve the FAQ, so really, everybody wins.

I will choose a winner at 2PM PST on Tuesday, February 8th.

Game on!

FAQ Question that may or may not be answerable at this time for plot reasons:

Who are the Firstborn and how many of them are there?

(I can't wait for the new book!)

Not answerable at this time for a lot of reasons, including the Pokemon Caveat. IE, "if you say there are only a hundred, eventually, you'll come up with #101, and then you'll look like an ass." So "no one knows" is really the official answer there.
Why are Oberon, Maeve and Titania missing? Will they show up in later books?
Sadly, this falls under the category of asking me for spoilers, and cannot be answered. (You're still in the drawing, you're just not getting what you asked for.)

Who feeds Toby's cats when she is away for days on end?
What is the Changling's Choice?
http://seananmcguire.com/tobyfaq.php :

Q: What is the Changeling's Choice?

A: Changelings are given a choice between the fae and mortal worlds by their fae parents once they have reached a certain age (this age is different for everyone, but is normally between the ages of six and thirteen). Changelings who choose "fae" are immediately taken to the Summerlands to begin their education. Changelings who choose "human" are killed.

Quarter-blooded changelings may not be presented with the Choice, as it is possible that their mortal blood will be so strong that their fae nature will not manifest itself.
How close is the correspondence between the Summerlands and the human world? For example, could there be a European spot that leads directly to Shadowed Hills, or can it only be entered from San Francisco?

BTW, I found an error in the current FAQ:

Q: When will Late Eclipses be available?

A: An Artificial Night is scheduled for North American release on March 1st, 2011.
Whoops! Thank you, and I've fixed that.

Who's smarter, Spike or Toby's cats?
Tybalt.
Does Tybalt mark his territory the "usual way" or via magic? (Hmm... and what would happen if he marked Toby... *speculates*)
Um, ew.

Magic.
Is Spike territorial the way cats are? and if so, how does he feel about all the random folks who end up traipsing through Toby's apartment? for that matter, what do the cats think of it? (okay, I guess that's kind of more than one question)
Not really.

And the cats are grumpy, but mostly okay with it.
What did Amandine do with Toby's blood? In R&R the Luidaeg makes reference to Amandine "trying to fix matters on her own". And why does the Luidaeg say that she wondered when someone of Amandine's line would track her (the Luidaeg) down?
Sadly, this falls under the category of asking me for spoilers, and cannot be answered. (You're still in the drawing, you're just not getting what you asked for.)

Yes.
What are the general statistics on numbers of changelings versus non-changelings in the average Faerie territory?

What's the separation between bias against those faeries with mortal blood and those with weak magic? I mean, if a faerie had one human great-grandparent, would sie be counted as a changeling even if hir ability to work magic (and vulnerability to iron) was within the normal range for faeries?
Lots vs. not so lots. I don't have the stats drawn up, because they vary so widely.

If fae blood becomes dilute enough, the children are no longer considered changelings. If mortal blood becomes dilute enough, it can potentially be concealed, but the children are still changelings, because they will still, eventually, die.
Did being a fish stop Toby's aging as a factor of not being in her propre shape, or is her appearance more a factor of being a changeling?
More a factor of her being a changeling, really.
Does Toby retain any fishy traits from her time as a fish?
Not that she'll admit to.
What is the significance of the "Babylon" rhyme in AAN and why does the Luidaeg call it a game?
I love you so.
Will Toby ever travel outside the Bay Area?

How does Toby groom (or even pet) the rose goblin?

How do rose goblins procreate?

Does Toby even like Shakespeare? :)

Is May the first of her kind to take on her own persona?
1) Yes.

2) Carefully.

3) Ask Luna.

4) Yes.

5) Yes.
Where's the TV control?
Under the cat.
Why does Tybalt keep sniffing (literally) around Toby?

Yes, I know the answer, but I bet several other people don't.
She smells funny.

What sources inspire and influence your choices for Faerie mythology?

or What other books and sources would you recommend reading if you want to know more?
Start with the Briggs; be prepared to do a lot of reading.
If Tybalt could, would he be something other than a cat?

Excited for Late Eclipses! Thanks for hosting.

Oooooooooh, no.

For being a cat is BEST.
What holidays do the fae celebrate?
Depends on the fae.
I've been wondering how old Tybalt is.

Also, why can't you say thank you to fae?

What's Toby's favorite coffee?

What determines what someone's magic smells like? (Alternately: how do you decide what someone's magic smells like?)

Also, you've answered it already, but it belongs in the FAQ: What do you have against Toby's modes of transportation?
1) One she gets to finish drinking.

2) Stuff. I dunno. It is what it is.

3) BOOM. Heh heh heh.
Does Spike (or any rose goblin) ever bloom? And if so, would Toby be allergic to it? :D
Nope. They're not that part of the bush.
