LATE ECLIPSES ARC winner, and other ARC questions.

Point the first: the winner of our random drawing "picture of your pet with one of my books" contest is...the_liz666! Please contact me via my website contact link within the next twenty-four hours to claim your prize. If you don't, I will choose another winner. Also, can I just say, I am SO VERY GLAD this was an explicitly random number-based contest? If I had to choose from the awesome, awesome entries, my head would have exploded. There was Perry the Platypus! And cats! And videos! And fish! AND A FRIKKIN' TIGER! I have the best fans in the whole world.

Point the second: I recently received some old ARCs from my publisher, found during one of the rare but vital "let's clean all the things" sessions. Is anyone out there doing cool art projects with books right now? I have two copies of A Local Habitation and three of An Artificial Night, and I'd love to see them turned into something awesome. Let me know if you have any ideas about where these books could go. (Donating them to a women's shelter doesn't work very well, because they're ARCs; they don't stand up well to repeat reading. Turning them into art, on the other hand, is both awesome and forever. Everybody wins!)

Point the third: I need to do a few more contests, naturally, before finished copies of Late Eclipses start showing up. Does anybody have any cool suggestions? And no, "Just give it to me" doesn't could, and may get you swatted at.

I make pendants/necklaces from small glass bottles, and have been wanting to make ones with words inside them. Does that sound interesting to you?
I don't think it would work very well, since there are words on both sides of the paper, which isn't going to play well inside bottles...

I think that might be better for One Salt Sea, just so I can give people time to prepare...

Might check with naamah_darling. She does some incredible art and I know she enjoys your books. An opportunity like this might inspire her mightily.
Oooo, good idea! I've emailed her.
I have images in my mind of portraits/silhouettes or places described in your books created using relevant words. I guess a collage, using text to create shape and texture.

but it isn't something I've done before, and I would feel bad if my attempt failed and I didn't have something to show for the gift of an ARC.
That's the beauty of having more than one of something meant to be disposable! Also, you require no postage, which makes you AWESOME.

Which would you like?

...maybe...
I didn't enter because I have no pets right now, but I loved seeing all the entries :)

Maybe a competition where you write a sentence or a paragraph or draw a picture, and then we enter a story/poem/arty thing/whetever based on it? Or a photography competition, to take a photo that reminds us of something about your books? Or an LJ icon making competition? Or a macro making competition (LOLRoseGoblins?)?
Good thoughts!
How about "Name That Character" -- give a few details about a character, and whoever can tell you who that character is wins a prize.
Hmmm. Good suggestion.
I'm SO excited to win! Thank you!!! I replied to your email (since we've chatted before) but if you NEED me to reply via your webpage for authenticity I can do that too.
Thank you for giving me the coolest thing so far EVER! I owe you a My Little Pony.
Generally, I need you to go through the website, because I need the message to hit that inbox. Since you got there regardless, I don't much care right now. :)
I admit, there's not much I could feasibly do art-wise with something from one of the books.

...

No, I lied. I had some ideas for theme/soundtrack music when I was reading various bits. Time, though, is an issue right now. It would probably be a month or two before I got around to it (being the accompanist for a musical sucks your time up quick).

I've also been tempted in the past to create a tower or pattern of sorts using urban fantasy books with cover art by Chris. Kind of like those pictures made of pictures. Though that's extraordinarily tricky when you don't have an overabundance of books. The pattern anyway. A tower or otherwise... hrm.

As to contest ideas, a photography contest with the subject of your choosing. Or the most creative way to spell Toby's name, with materials of the contestant's choosing, and then posting a pic.

Or, you know. Have people send you cookies. Best cookie wins.
I am a fan of cookies, it's true.
Probably a better competition for Blackout, but I think that a create a parasite (and describe its lifecycle, means of reproduction, effects on the host, etc.) would be interesting.
For, ah, various reasons, that's not a good contest right now.

Look, a bunny.

I know, right?!
My roommate makes jewelry and papercrafts, and she would love one of your ARCs to play with. And her birthday is Feb. 6. (Maybe this will make up for me thinking the Late Eclipses giveaway ended on the 26th not the 24th so I didn't eve, make an entry for the contest, and I really wanted to win and give her a Late Eclipses ARC for her birthday and now I feel like a huge idiot for not at least having a shot at it.)
Go ahead and email me a mailing address, and I'll pop one in the mail for you!

I'm hoping to make some flowers for my wedding bouquet and stuff out of paper/books. Having something meant to be disposable for that would be awesome. http://www.bookwormeatsflower.com/2010/12/kaylee-and-matts-wedding.html the is the sort of thing I am using for inspiration. But I think they may already be gone, plus I am complicated and far away, so no worries if you pick other people.
I still have a few left, so if you're willing to pay postage and send wedding pictures, I'm happy to mail books to the UK!

Speaking of pets, you wouldn't happen to know anything about this story, would you? (My theory is that he was staying with you, but had to leave when he did something to annoy Alice.)
...oh, pretty baby.

I want him.
Most amusing "review" of Late Eclipses by those who have not read the book?
Oh, I like that one! That would be a hoot.

The cost of turning an ARC into a lasting book is greater than the cost of a paperback book. In addition, ARCs are pre-final correction. They're not meant to exist on in tandem with the final, finished product.

I pretty much won't, and can't, donate ARCs for that sort of thing.
I have some random ideas for contests:

1. Ego Boost Contest. The person who has the best compliment of true things wins.
1a. Tall Tales Contest. The person with the best lie about how awesome you are wins.

2. Best story about reading/obtaining your books.

3. Best story about roping in a new reader of your books.

4. Staircase Wit Contest. The person with the best retort they didn't think of until after they'd walked away wins.

5. Ghost Story Contest. Best campfire story, either retold or made up of whole cloth, wins.
Neat!
