Point the second: I recently received some old ARCs from my publisher, found during one of the rare but vital "let's clean all the things" sessions. Is anyone out there doing cool art projects with books right now? I have two copies of A Local Habitation and three of An Artificial Night, and I'd love to see them turned into something awesome. Let me know if you have any ideas about where these books could go. (Donating them to a women's shelter doesn't work very well, because they're ARCs; they don't stand up well to repeat reading. Turning them into art, on the other hand, is both awesome and forever. Everybody wins!)
Point the third: I need to do a few more contests, naturally, before finished copies of Late Eclipses start showing up. Does anybody have any cool suggestions? And no, "Just give it to me" doesn't could, and may get you swatted at.

but it isn't something I've done before, and I would feel bad if my attempt failed and I didn't have something to show for the gift of an ARC.

Maybe a competition where you write a sentence or a paragraph or draw a picture, and then we enter a story/poem/arty thing/whetever based on it? Or a photography competition, to take a photo that reminds us of something about your books? Or an LJ icon making competition? Or a macro making competition (LOLRoseGoblins?)?

No, I lied. I had some ideas for theme/soundtrack music when I was reading various bits. Time, though, is an issue right now. It would probably be a month or two before I got around to it (being the accompanist for a musical sucks your time up quick).
I've also been tempted in the past to create a tower or pattern of sorts using urban fantasy books with cover art by Chris. Kind of like those pictures made of pictures. Though that's extraordinarily tricky when you don't have an overabundance of books. The pattern anyway. A tower or otherwise... hrm.
As to contest ideas, a photography contest with the subject of your choosing. Or the most creative way to spell Toby's name, with materials of the contestant's choosing, and then posting a pic.
Or, you know. Have people send you cookies. Best cookie wins.

I pretty much won't, and can't, donate ARCs for that sort of thing.
