The best of 2010: cinematic media edition.

So, like, disclaimers and stuff: this post, more than almost any other, represents 100% personal opinion, do not pass go, do not collect two hundred dollars. I am not drawing from critical sources, focus groups, or anything but my own impressions of things. This means you may disagree with me, and that's totally cool. Just be aware that I speak not from a position of on high, but from a position of "that weird girl who likes weird stuff sometimes."

With all that out of the way, I present...

Seanan's Best Cinematic Media Moments of 2010.

We cut because we care. Seriously, cutting is caring when it's in a situation like this. I promise.Collapse )

Next up, books, comics, and anything else I think of that needs listing. (Best Kitten of 2010: Thomas!)

What were your bests of 2010?

Best Ongoing Addiction: Castle. As much as I miss Firefly I can't hardly help but think that Rick Castle is the role Nathan Fillion was born to play.

Best Plot Twist that I saw coming from the beginning of the film but enjoyed anyway: The traitor's identity in Salt.

Cutest Holiday Special on a channel that sounds like SciFi: Eureka. Warehouse 13 was fun but didn't quite peg the cute meter.

And yes, Tangled is worth the viewing. Previews left me cold on it but I'm very glad that an otherwise errant whim caused me to see it after all.
Excellent.
Best Movie: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
Best Animated Movie: How to Train Your Dragon (Tangled starts here next week, it's my birthday treat :) )
Film I didn't Get What All the Fuss was About: A Tie between Scott Pilgrim & Inception

Best TV Show: Dr Who (I love Rory!)
Best Episode: Vincent & The Pandorica Opens

Nice. :)
Fringe gets my vote for Best Show of the Year, too. Olivia Dunham is the coolest person in this universe and the other side. I want to wear black all of the time and be her.
Totally agreed.
Love your Best Film choice. So much right with that movie. Full of non-genius, non-superheroic characters whose choices, combined with the ordinary human (but developed) skills they have, both do damage and work miracles. Most relevant use of 3D to a film's story I've ever experienced, as if it needed that. And my favorite exchange of dialogue this year, consisting of two words: "Yes" and "Okay".
Oh, totally.
I loved How to Train Your Dragon. I got the DVD for Christmas, and I watched it with my sister (I'd already seen it once.) Great choice. I'd give it a Best Friendship Award.
I also loved Tangled. Flynn is incredibly cool, and Rapunzel is ADORABLE. And I loved the sequences at the Snuggly Duckling, and the little drunk midget dude. Cutest romance of the year.
Toy Story 3 was amazing. It has what I think is the best quote of the year, from Mr. Potatohead: "You're nothing but a purse with legs!"
Despicable Me get the I Didn't Expect to Like It But I Did award, as it was just so cute!
I also saw Secretariat, and I thought Malkovich was great as Lucien Laurin, though I was laughing at all those ugly '70s outfits.
Very good list.
Thank you for loving Eleven as much as I do (and for giving me an excuse to use this icon). I can understand the "meh" if Ten was your first, but dude, I watched all of New!Who in a month. I really liked Ten, but I was in mourning for Nine. When Matt Smith came along, my world was better again. He feels a lot more like my Doctor, though I can't quite pinpoint why. I love him like a basket of kittens delivered by an angry kiss-o-gram.

That said, the Eleven-bashing from the Ten-fanatics irks the fuck out of me. We all love our Doctor, but he is the Doctor despite occasional shifts of appearance and personality quirks.

My first was Four, and my one true Docytor was Seven. I get very fussed at all these people hating on Eleven for not being Ten. Eleven is wonderful, and deserves to be judged for what he is: the latest in a long line of Doctors, all of whom were THE Doctor, in their day.
I'm so glad you loved Tangled! I've seen it twice already, and totally want a Pascal. He's so cute. And I cried too. No need to even mention shaming.

And How to Train Your Dragon was wickedly awesome. The best part was that my boyfriend, who doesn't really like animated movies (go figure) was so excited to go see it with me that we went to see it opening day in 3D! Best movie date ever.

I was so ready to hate Eleven when we first met him, but he surprised me, and I really liked him. We shall have to discuss him and S5 when we meet again at Conflikt. Though Anne does not feel the same way. She stopped watching entirely. Boo.

And I will totally not judge you on loving Phineas and Ferb. It is probably my favorite show ever. I know like all the songs, and watched the Christmas special 3 times on Christmas Day alone. Not to mention how many times I watched it over the Christmas season. We should sing P&F songs at Conflikt and convert everyone.

As much as I love Glee, I do agree, it has been sinking in it's second season. But I still love it. In fact, I'm wearing my newly Christmas-gifted GLEE-jays (Glee pj's) and they say "Don't Stop Believing" so I won't stop believing in Glee. Hopefully they pick it up again. And I will bring them to Conflikt. :D

I'll see you in 27 days!!!!
I find it very disappointing that Anne walked away over Tennant's decision to leave (and he left, he wasn't fired); it seems to miss something of the point of Who. Everything changes. That's what makes it wonderful.

I subjected the Agora to Phineas and Ferb this past weekend. I am a bad woman.
It was really more the Stephen Moffatt take over than the Tennant leaving (and yes, we both know, and were saddened by, that). She seriously dislikes Moffatt, some of which I understand but I don't take that much issue. TV is entertainment, and DW is still super entertaining if you ask me. :)

The Agora? You must explain. I am slow to pick up on all the nicknames and such. I did the same to my man when he came to visit me when I worked at WDW. He did a lot of eye rolling over the show but I love it.
It's the Vixy/Fishy/Tony/Torrey household.
Here are a few more awards from me, mainly having to do with songs from movies:
Best Romantic Song: "I See the Light" from Tangled
Funniest Song: "I've Got a Dream", from Tangled
Best Song overall: "To the Sky" from Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole.
Most Awesome weapon: the frying pan!
Excellent.
