Happy holidays! Have nice things.

It's the holiday season, and nice things are vital to our continued equilibrium. Equilibrium is nice! And so I present you with some nice things, to maintain this blessed state.

First of all, The Toby Wallpapers and Icons page has been updated over on my website. You can now download some basic wallpapers and icons for Late Eclipses, as well as wallpapers and icons for Nebelbann (the German edition of A Local Habitation). Plus there's a fantastic new wallpaper/icon set for An Artificial Night, showing dear Katie, all toned in beautiful blues and whites.

Second of all, the cover for Late Eclipses has been nominated as one of the Beautiful Book Covers of 2011. While I'd love it if you'd go and vote for me, this counts as a nice thing because some of these covers are truly gorgeous, and I hadn't seen the majority of them before. I'm really excited about the books coming out in 2011! It's going to be a banner year for reading.

Third of all, because I am me and I truly do regard this as "a nice thing," here is a list of really cute animals that will seriously fuck you up if given the opportunity to do so. Hooray! Some of these animals are really cute. And all of them are really included to make you wish that you'd never been born. I tend to regard this as awesome.

Happy Wednesday!

Number one on that animal list was hilarious :).
Agreed.
I've long been saying that Australia appears to be the world's repository of things that can kill you ded faster than you can blink...
There's a reason one of my tags is "Australia makes you die."
Thank you! The Winterfluch wallpaper on my laptop disappeared last week, replaced by a generic Windows image, after I hooked up to an external projector to do a presentation. So now I have nice new Nebelbann wallpaper.
Hooray!
Curses! I have to change my wallpaper now.

Of course, I'm sure my spousebeast will be thrilled, since my current wallpaper is a picture of a slightly tipsy me hugging Voltaire at Dragon con in 2009. *sigh* I guess it is time. :)
I live to serve.
And they never even got to our wonderful assortment of highly venomous snakes and spiders.
I know! It's tragic.
Loved the animal list!
As did I. :)
I'm so glad they included the cone fish. People think I'm joking when I mention that one.

At work, there is a lot of sheds. Red back spiders love sheds. I make a point of showing non-Aussies the spiders. "See that? Yeah, it's bad news. Take a good look. Leave it alone."
I do a cone snail impression at the breakfast table on occasion. My friends are very tolerant.

I am coming to your place of work the next time I'm in Australia.
Those animals are the cutest.

When my dad was doing a SCUBA course, I used to have nightmares about cone snails, blue ringed octopus, and stone fish. I was about 9.
I think that's a reasonable response, really...
Thanks for the list.

I have an irrational fear of very small furry animals, which my wife finds hilarious. I'm convinced my end will involve a mouse or gerbil or the like scuttling into my bed at night and chewing open my jugular vein in my sleep.
Very welcome.
I am so calling my non-existent band "Flamboyant Cuttlefish" :-)
It's a great name for a band!

Neat!
I have a problem with kittens/toxoplasmosis being #1. Particularly because the chance of any indoor cat having it is miniscule - it's a soil parasite. If you have indoor cats you're more likely to get it from gardening without gloves. (I had to deal with this question a lot while pregnant...)
Yeah, it's a bit of an overstated threat.
Shouldn't "An annoyed Senan McGuire" be on this list somewhere? Maybe not near the top - I'm going to vote for the ultra-scary Blue-Ringed Octopi being #1 - but in the top ten somewhere. Cause of death, heart failure as people realize she's really serious about what she would like to have.

I don't wanna hear any nonsense about not being cute either. You don't terrify until you open your mouth and discussions about quasi-trained Velociraptors fall out.
I really, really want a pandemic in a can...

Also, hee.
