Seventy-five days until the eclipse comes, right on time.

We are now seventy-five days out from the release of Late Eclipses [Amazon]|[Mysterious Galaxy], the fourth book in the ongoing saga of "Toby tries to drink a cup of coffee without something trying to eat her face off." Poor Toby.

My ARCs came last night. The large print of the front cover (which is gorgeous, and can be ordered directly from the cover artist, should you ever decide that you want Toby watching you sleep) is on my living room wall. I expect I'll have my cover flat for the actual book soon, and then that, too, will wind up framed and hanging somewhere in my house (the living room is sort of filling up). And sometime around the middle of February, finished copies will appear, like a magical gift from the Bookmaker's Elves.

It's all getting very real.

Late Eclipses is the book that takes me out of "trilogy" territory, and into the big wide world of "the series." Toby's story has never been a trilogy, but people have persisted in calling it that, because that's how we're conditioned to think about things that come in blocks of three. Late Eclipses is also the first book that wasn't a part of my initial contract. DAW could easily have published An Artificial Night and said, "Well, that was fun, what other series do you have?" Instead, they said "We believe in Toby," and they bought this book. I am so grateful. I am so determined to prove that they were right.

I'm really proud of this book. A lot of things get resolved here, and a lot of things get set up; all the rules of Toby's world are fully in place, and I don't have to deal with them anymore. Plus, the whole of what I consider to be the "central cast" is now in place, which gives me a surprising amount of freedom. I'm happy. I hope you will be, too. (And remember, a pre-ordered book makes a lovely holiday treat for someone. Maybe even for yourself. I'm not picky, here!)

Book four is already almost here.

Wow.

Oh my god, when you put it in terms of days, it seems so SOON!
I KNOW, RIGHT?! I had to prod Tara this morning for icons, I'd totally been going "la la la" and pretending it wasn't, you know, TOMORROW.
*grins* Congrats. (Trilogy? Not here, I didn't.)
You're wise.
Went to web site, found Rosemary and Rue, A Local Habitation and An Artificial Night but not Late Eclipses. Perhaps they are not on the page because the book has not been released?
Sometimes it takes a while for things to join the gallery. If you email him directly, he'll sell you a print.
About three years ago, I attended a booksigning for Jim Butcher. He described how he had basically gone to various publishers with his idea for the Harry Dresden novels, which are a 20-odd book arc; he remains amazed that he got the greenlight on a series of that nature.
20. That makes me happy. Because Harry is NOT DEAD. Sorry. Little emotional:)

God, though, I don't want to think about it, I take the bar a week before it comes out.

You are in my pre-order lot that went out. 75 days is so soon but so far! Also sending the Toby books to the baby cousin. I've been sending her books since she was 4 for Christmas every year. She's 16 now and apparently my amazon box is still the thing to get a the Hill house. I'm happy to add you to the list of must reads for them. She got Feed for her birthday.

Holiday party on Sunday if you have nothing better to do. I'm still lacking a rockstar on my guest list.
That's brilliant. You're brilliant.

I spent Sunday fishing kittens out of toilets, and fighting in vain against my deadlines. THE DEADLINES ARE WINNING.
I thank you for giving me a regular stream of books to look forward to.

Very welcome!
YAY! More Toby for the win!
Hee. :)
Already pre-ordered (on my birthday!), Amazon UK says 5th April so we'll see how accurate they are this time. Waiting is...
Brilliant.
"Toby tries to drink a cup of coffee without something trying to eat her face off."

I assume the "...and fails" is implicit.
I'm going to assume that one of these days, Toby will finish her cup of coffee, look up, and there will be something sitting there. "Wouldn't be polite to eat your face off while you were finishing your coffee. Mind if I have a blueberry Pop-Tart?"

I'm so glad there's more Toby! Three (even four) books just isn't enough.

The covers look even better when you view them on McGrath's website because they're larger and you notice the details better. For example, I had no idea Toby was wearing a Pink Floyd shirt on Artificial Night.

The only thing is that I couldn't find the cover for Late Eclipses. Where is it in relation to the other Toby covers?
As of right now, you didn't miss it, it hasn't been added. It will be, and you can apparently e-mail direct and just ask if you're thinking of ordering.

It's mine, too.
Sweet February release date means it'll come out just in time to be Little Josh's first bed time story!

I figure once he can articulate opinions we'll probably spend an inordinate amount of time reading books with cardboard pages and few words. I might as well get in something I'll find interesting first.
That makes sense.
We believe in Toby too!

And definitely Spike. :D
Hee.
And not only is it now in terms of days, it's double digit days!
It's a bit terrifying, really.
It's on my holiday wish list... in fact, EVERY book you've sold is on my wish list, even the ones we already have. To wit:

Seanan McGuire:
Rosemary and Rue
A Local Habitation
An Artificial Night
Late Eclipses (preorders available, book coming soon)
One Salt Sea (coming not as soon)
Discount Armageddon (coming even less soon)
Midnight Blue-light Special (sequel to Discount Armageddon, you do the math)
Ashes of Honor (Sept. 2012)
The Chimes at Midnight (Sept. 2013)
Feed (as Mira Grant, available now)
Deadline (as Mira Grant, out in 2011)
Blackout (as Mira Grant, out in 2012)
Awesome!
Yayayayayay!

(Is there anything else to say?)
DINO DANCE PARTY!

We could say that.
Mine is preordered and I'm already drooling in anticipation XD
Hooray!
If I remember correctly, I preordered mine as soon as preorders were available. And now I have Toby the perfume to wear on Release Day. I have to say that the October Daye series is one of my top favorite series ever.
Yay! Thank you.
