A brief note before beginning the day...

I try to answer all comments on this journal, because it just seems polite. But after spending the night worrying about my sick cat, and spending the morning medicating her (which she hates), I honestly can't bring myself to answer individual comments on my post about her illness. It's just going to make me start crying again. So...

Thank you all, so very much, for your kind wishes and concern. Alice is still sick, but seems to be on the mend—she felt well enough to glare at me this morning when I hauled her out from under the couch and pumped her full of sticky pink antibiotic goo. Thomas and Lilly are confused and clingy, since they don't understand what's going on, and everyone is thrilled by the sudden wide availability of tuna.

Medicating Alice is easier than it could be, because she is seriously one of the world's most civilized cats; she mostly just squirms and scowls at me, like her infection is my fault, and not the fault of rapidly-replicating bacteria. I cannot explain epidemiology to my cat. I know. I've tried.

I'll keep you posted, and thank you again. I really appreciate it.

*sends lots of strength and cat-mending tuna*
Thank you.
Considering how many comments that post got, I wouldn't expect an individual reply. At least you and your cats are well-loved, though they might not care about people on the Internet.
The cats adore people on the internet. Why? Because sometimes the people on the internet send them food.

I think this is why they sometimes eat my mail.

That was my thought. I'm always so tickled when this ultra-cool author responds to ME. But then I equate authors with rockstars. I'm weird like that:)

Best wishes to both Alice and you.
Thank you.
Good thoughts and healing vibes going out to Alice! (And sympathies to you in advance, for when she is all better and the food supply goes back to "normal" and the cats Are. Not. Even. Remotely. Amused.)
Yeeeeeah that's gonna be fun. Not.
Purrs, hugs, and the tastiest virtual gourmet tuna you can imagine, from me and my gigantic furball to you and Alice (and Lilly and Thomas, too). Be well soon, Alice!!
Just...what a beautiful kitty in that icon photo!

Lots of hugs, lots of tuna, lots of restful sleep and gentle songs for you both.
Thank you.
I am so relieved she is on the mend, and the mental image of you attempting to explain epidemiology to her fills me with amazing amounts of glee.
I do try! She doesn't listen, but I do try.
Having gone through having a beloved cat be sick, I can completely understand the sheer exhaustion that comes with it. In my case CG was older, and wound up with renal failure, and we had a year at the end of subQ fluids which he took with astounding good grace. Sit back, relax, take care of all your babies, and I'm profoundly grateful for you that Alice will be all right.
I am still stunned by how fast she got so bad. It was like a horror movie that I couldn't turn off. :(

I'm so glad to hear Alice is on the upswing! Tuna for all!! Gavin, Lou Reed, Sylvia, Tank, Touche and Violet are all sending happy, healing energy her way. *I* hope she gets better soon too--and that you get some rest after the ordeal you and Alice have been through.
Thank you. Very much.
*hugs*

(Bacteria and viruses are actually Mira's fault, so Alice can blame your alter ego *g*.)
I'll be sure to tell her that.
Glad to hear she's feeling well enough to glare.
Thank you.
Hooray that she's on the mend! I know you won't be feeling okay about it till she's fully well, of course, so for everyone's sake over there -- including Thomas and Lilly! -- I hope it's soon.
Thomas thinks this is AWESOME because now there is TUNA OMG.
What they said. (Presuming it was kind and supportive.)
Hee.
I'm so glad she's doing better! Also that she tolerates being medicated. I had to give injectable antibiotics twice daily to our Morgause (oral meds weren't working, and stressed the hell out of her), when she had a nasty bout of pneumonia. We thought we were going to loose her. Now she *still* thinks she should have whatever she wants off my plate, since she as allowed anything she'd eat, then.

Thankfully, the oral meds are working. I'm not sure I could handle the injections.
On the mend with only 24 hours of antibiotics onboard - go Alice! Now, have you enough canned peas? (Tuna is nice, but you need a treat too.) Big and brave and no matter what, everything is going to be okay.
Thank you. For everything.
If she's glaring, she probably is feeling somewhat better. I know what this feels like. Much love to you and her and the other two cats.
She demanded breakfast this morning!

i'm glad to hear she's on the mend. it's hard when the furry kids get sick. if only they could speak and tell us what's wrong and how they're feeling. *sigh*

why don't the pharmaceutical companies make tuna flavoured medication for cats? i think we'd all be much happier for that.

no response comment solicited or required. ;)
There are tuna-flavored medicines for cats. Mind you, a regular pharmacy won't carry it. You'll have to go to a compounding pharmacy to have them make it. (That's I did when Puma was going through her last few weeks.)

That also doesn't mean that they'll like the overall flavor. It's pretty much tuna-flavor-on-top-of-the-yucky-medicine-flavor. The yucky-medicine-flavor may win out. But I did what I could to make the last part of her life as good as it could be.

Much love to you and Alice, Lilly and Thomas. Sending lots of tuna thoughts and catnip wishes to your fur children from mine. :)
Thank you.
Hey. There are times when you don't actually have to be that polite; put bluntly, we don't care. Go look after your cat.
And it's amazing that you don't care, but I still make an effort. Thank you for being wonderful.
Glad to hear she seems to be doing better. And don't worry, I'm pretty sure we all understand when you can't respond to all of our comments. ;)
I know, I just always worry about coming off as an asshole when I didn't mean to be.

Hugs to you and your glaring kitties, may they all recover from this silliness quickly.
Thank you.
Hugs and good thoughts from us and the cats on this end of the bay. I know how horribly insane I get just thinking about the cats being sick. I'm glad she's on the mend.
Hrm. That was probably not the most supportive icon I could have used. Here, have happy kitties instead.

No response necessary. Glad to hear Alice is on the mend, and the idea of you explaining epidemiology to her is the funniest thing I've heard all day. Though if anyone could manage it, that would be you.
I was gonna say, if any cat could understand epidemiology, it would be Seanan's.

I'm very glad to hear that Alice is feeling even that tiny bit better -- Shelly and Nox send her virtual tuna and sympathies about the icky medicine, and I send you good vibes.

AngelVixen :-)
P.S. As to comments, I want you to know that I do appreciate when you reply to me, because I know that you are a Very Terribly Busy Blonde, yet you took time to read what I had to say. I also understand when you just don't have the time/energy/resources to reply, and I don't feel slighted. If anyone suggests that not responding will get you eaten by a grue, I'll thwomp them for you. ^_^
I so appreciate your offer of thwomping, you have no idea. <3
