Life in the sea of blue cats.

So, as many of you have ascertained from this month's welcome post, I have a new member of my feline family: Thomas, a blue classic tabby and white Maine Coon. Like Alice, he hails from Seattle's fantastic Pinecoon Cattery, courtesy of Betsy Tinney. He and Alice actually share a mother, the sweet-natured and endlessly tolerant Arial (yes, like the font), although they have different fathers. Thomas joined the family on Sunday afternoon, heralded by a rather epic amount of hissing from my pre-existing cats, Lilly and Alice.

Thomas, it should be noted, has really not participated in the hissing. He's a goofy, sweet little blue boy, and he starts purring when I get within three feet of him. That is, when he's not racing through the house like a kitten possessed, sinuous blue tail flying out behind him like a flag, losing traction on the hardwood floor, and slamming into the nearest available wall. Yes. He does this a lot.

Lilly and Alice remain dubious of our new family member, but they're starting to warm to him. Lilly was grooming him yesterday (she is the lickingest cat alive), and he and Alice slept on my chest last night, together. Given that he's likely to weigh more than she does when he grows up, this may become a lot less endearing really, really soon. Then again, they eliminate the need for a space heater, so hey. All three of them spent last night's episode of Glee hanging out, purring loudly, and being cute. I have the cutest cats in the entire world. And all my cats are blue.

This brings me to two Maine Coons and one classic Siamese, which strikes me as a good place to stop, since going any further takes me into crazy cat lady territory. Besides, I'm already pretty sure that, if they wanted to, they could take me.

Kitten!

(No, there are not yet kitten pictures available. Yes, there will be kitten pictures...eventually. Making pictures uploadable is a long, manual process, and I'm getting ready for this weekend's Orycon Guest of Honor slot, integrating a new cat into my household, and trying to finish a book. Asking me for kitten pictures only reduces my desire to deal with formatting them. So please show mercy, and don't ask?)

We brought Yeti home (as a 3-month-old) when Cleo was 9 months old; he was about the right age to have been from her first litter, if we hadn’t gotten her spayed. She displayed excellent maternal instincts, and it was a couple of years before we could get her to play with cat toys while Yeti was in the room, as she was determined that he would learn to hunt them properly. Goofy and sweet sounds very much like the typical Maine Coon boy— if he’s anything like Yeti, he’ll still be goofy and sweet (but much larger!) ten years from now. Congratulations!
Okay, that's brilliant.

Thomas is wonderful. I am besotted beyond words.

We visited the Blues Litter many times before you picked him up, and we can confirm what Betsy said, that he never took to *anyone* the way he took to you. He just, like, THREW himself at you. THIS HUMAN IS MINE NAO. It was so awesome to watch.
He's pretty firm on that point, still. Alice and Lilly have been teaching him about sharing.
I will probably never again be a cat owner - I handle dogs, but cats set off my asthma these days - but I love to hear about other people's cats.

I too once had a cat that ran headlong into the walls - sadly, I think it's because she didn't notice them until it was too late to turn. Full speed ahead until ahead wasn't there anymore. At least Thomas has the hardwood floor as an excuse.

He sounds awesome.

my muted calico does that!

Yay puffy kittens!! Congratulations on the new arrival.
Thank you!
Can't wait to hear more about your trio of cats.

Given that he's likely to weigh more than she does when he grows up...

Alice is still growing, right? Their combined size when they're both fully grown will be mind-boggling, I'm sure.
I expect forty pounds of cumulative cat, minimum.

Had a puppy that used to do this. Very cute, but she was silly as a wheel.

I am worried about brain damage...
Yay! Congratulations on Thomas. I'm looking forward to seeing pictures when you have time.
Thank you!
No such thing as too many cats - I am looking forward to being a crazy cat lady as I get older, when I have my own house - good thing my boyfriend is also a big cat fan, although he's so attached to siamese he doesn't like considering other options.

Personally, I have three moggies -
Cassie (black) is about six and a bit of a grump sometimes, but lovely. Loves to hide in boxes, but getting a bit heavy to be able to climb around like she used to.
Tiger (grey tabby, ~3) my brother adopted against my parents wishes from the markets about two years ago, as she had five newborn kittens and they would all have been putdown as their owner was a bastard. She's a little bipolar sometimes, so you never know when she'll be a sweetheart or randomly attack, but she's become much friendlier over the years.
Hardy (ginger tabby) is her son from a second litter (we didn't get her spayed in time), about one and a half. He's a big boy, and a massive softy, tolerates everything. His mum hates him though, is always attacking him without provocation.

...I want more cats, though!
Let me guess, Tiger doesn't seem to be all that serious when she attacks, it's more like she's playing at being all fierce and fiendish.

I'll bet it's more play fighting than anything else, and that over the years she's learned that you don't like to play fight.

Hee - Tally used to do that when he was chasing the other cat through the kitchen in our old place. Not only does he have the typical hair between the pads Maine Coon paws, he has no claws (wasn't us! - he came to us that way) so he slides on carpeting if moving quickly enough.
Hee!
Happy Kitties to you!
Happy Kitties to you....
Double hee.
Awww, kitties!!
They are vast. And they are hungry.

I'll see your Lilly and raise you my Luna as the lickingest cat alive.
Of course, I'll need video proof eventually. That's part of what sold me on adopting her, though. She licked me through the bars of her cage at the shelter. She begs you to pick her up, then she hugs you like a toddler and licks you. If you put your hand anywhere near her, she will lick it. To Luna, everyone has a flavor.

Lilly just never stops licking. It can get to be a bit much, when it's been going on for an hour...

I do, and I will happily sign! :)
Kitten pictures are here: http://pinecoon.com/kittens/arial_vargas/kittens.htm

Not, of course, pictures of kitten with Lilly and Alice, but adorable enough to placate the ravening hordes. Somewhat.
I believe Thomas is the one labeled "BB" in the photos, in case anyone's looking.

Puffy kittens are the bestest.
Agreed.
I do find myself bemused that the world is now subtly Wrong because not only do you have a non-Siamese cat, you now have MORE non-Siamese than Siamese.

I apparently do not handle change well.
Sadly, I can no longer find classic Siamese that meet my exacting standards. :(

I have visions of you buried in blue and white foof with only your eyes showing. *snickers* Congrats!
This is...not outside the realm of the possible.
Yay new kitten! I completely understand on the delay for photos - it's amazing how much my posting of photos slowed down once I actually started editing them and formatting them rather than just dumping raw camera contents. And this is with Lightroom, which does make things much faster (Advantage of occasional freelance photography gigs - they pay for new toys. Disadvantage - they pretty much require the new toys.)
Yeah, the instant gratification demands just make me tired.
Kitten!
Yes!
KITTY KITTY YAY!
About my reaction.
Yeah Kitten!
We have a linoleum floor in the kitchen, and the entrance to the bedroom is a 90 degree turn in the middle of the wall. The kittens would run in, attempt to make the 90 degree turn, bounce off the far wall, then be able on the rebound head into the bedroom. It was hysterical to watch. :D Big Harold, cat meanie that he is, would deliberate spook the cats to make them scramble for the bedroom.
Awwwwwwwwwwww.
Yay Kätzchen!
Hee.
