Halloween is here again, and all I have to do to stay dead is make it through the night alive.
Here we are at the middle of October, which means it's time for one more rest stop; one more pause along the road that runs from Sparrow Hill to the Last Chance Diner. Unbelievable as it is to say this, there are only two more stops after this one, only two more pauses before Rose Marshall finishes this leg of her journey. Strange, isn't it? It feels like we could have kept on driving for the better part of forever. But we can't. The trip is almost over.
Issue 58 of The Edge of Propinquity is live, and with it, the tenth of the Sparrow Hill Road stories is available. "Bad Moon Rising" lets us see how Rose Marshall spends her Halloween nights—and here's a hint: she doesn't get many treats to balance out her tricks. It's a chase in a cornfield, and a game that not everyone survives playing. Come along for the ride?
There are a lot of stories trapped and tangled in the twilight. This is only one of them. But it's the one I have to tell.
Of course, I read the last Sparrow Hill Road first; I'm bad like that. Now I'll go back and read the others. I understand the concept of "spoilers", but narrative tension can drive me crazy to know what the ending is. That and well, sometimes I just like reading backwards.
Thank you for setting it in Huntsville, Alabama! I don't expect we'll ever have a convention big enough to bring you down here to my state (Birmingham being an hour and a half away from Huntsville), but there is always nearby DragonCon in Atlanta, GA...
I've never been to a cornfield maze -- I have no excuse. Maybe I'll go to one this year.
Really?? Cool! If you ever want to be treated to a nice dinner while you're in the Huntsville area, let me know. I have relatives up there, too.
I actually haven't been to DragonCon since...the summer after I worked at White Wolf as an intern, I guess. 1997? I found it way too crowded then and am told it's only gotten worse since.
Nice Story!
