Halloween is here again, and all I have to do to stay dead is make it through the night alive.

Here we are at the middle of October, which means it's time for one more rest stop; one more pause along the road that runs from Sparrow Hill to the Last Chance Diner. Unbelievable as it is to say this, there are only two more stops after this one, only two more pauses before Rose Marshall finishes this leg of her journey. Strange, isn't it? It feels like we could have kept on driving for the better part of forever. But we can't. The trip is almost over.

Issue 58 of The Edge of Propinquity is live, and with it, the tenth of the Sparrow Hill Road stories is available. "Bad Moon Rising" lets us see how Rose Marshall spends her Halloween nights—and here's a hint: she doesn't get many treats to balance out her tricks. It's a chase in a cornfield, and a game that not everyone survives playing. Come along for the ride?

There are a lot of stories trapped and tangled in the twilight. This is only one of them. But it's the one I have to tell.

Welcome to the ghostroads.

Of course, I read the last Sparrow Hill Road first; I'm bad like that. Now I'll go back and read the others. I understand the concept of "spoilers", but narrative tension can drive me crazy to know what the ending is. That and well, sometimes I just like reading backwards.

Thank you for setting it in Huntsville, Alabama! I don't expect we'll ever have a convention big enough to bring you down here to my state (Birmingham being an hour and a half away from Huntsville), but there is always nearby DragonCon in Atlanta, GA...

I've never been to a cornfield maze -- I have no excuse. Maybe I'll go to one this year.
I generally spend Halloween of each year in the Huntsville corn maze. I do not attend DragonCon.
Really?? Cool! If you ever want to be treated to a nice dinner while you're in the Huntsville area, let me know. I have relatives up there, too.

I actually haven't been to DragonCon since...the summer after I worked at White Wolf as an intern, I guess. 1997? I found it way too crowded then and am told it's only gotten worse since.
Very nice!

I have to admit, these days, I roll out of bed on 15th, make a cup of tea, and fire up the browser and head right for the latest Sparrow Hill Road story. I guess I'm addicted! And I do think that someday this series would make a very nice little book.

And I keep thinking this could be a very nice setting for an RPG...
A print edition is definitely something I'm going to try for!
I am so not a horror fan, but Rose's story intrigues me as much as The Dionaea House. If you haven't read it set aside a few hours and keep all of the lights on. Even if it is daylight.
Thanks for the pointer!
Just wanted to make sure I have the right email address for you? I sent you a message awhile ago and didn't hear back, so I think I may have an old one.

Sorry to butt in like this :/. Back on topic, though, I like this series a lot! (though I'm not all the way through yet)
I just got an email from you. I can take a long time to reply, as witness the age of some of the comments I'm answering today.
Oh cool! :) That was actually the email that prompted me to say "Omg wait. I sent her another awhile ago, didn't I? Huh." That's TOTALLY fine if it takes you awhile! There's no rush. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't lobbing messages into the ether.
Read it yesterday. Mmmmmm. I do like this a lot, I do.
Thank you.
Ooh, nice to see more of Rose in action.

I admit, I did not foresee the punchline.
Yay!
I really adore this series. And I love how Rose makes a note that she shouldn't do something but she does it anyway [her humanity shining through?] where as you see all of these people who should be closer to 'human' than she is willing to throw it away for a quick chance of something else [Jimmy, her great niece] without ever thinking about the consequences of their actions.

Aw, yay. Thank you!
I'm saving this. On Halloween I'm going to go back and reread them all, with this new one for last. Popcorn balls and apple cider will probably get involved in this.
Aw, yay.
*pout* but I don't want them to end
Sorry!

Good new things will come.
