Quick notes for a Monday morning.

1. My website is currently down. Thanks to everyone who's pointed that out thus far today (and that's a sincere thanks—I needed to know, and better multiple people tell me than no one tells me). My webmaster is still asleep, because he's a lucky bastard, so I'll check in with him when he gets up. For now, site fall down, go boom. No clue why.

2. Oddly, this has come up lately, so...I try to answer all comments on this journal. Because my LJ inbox goes newest-to-oldest, when I get behind, newer comments wind up getting answered first, just so I don't miss any. I swear I'm not ignoring you if I haven't answered you yet, I just haven't answered you yet. It's all very recursive.

3. Pumpkin Pie Pop-Tarts. Yet another thing that I eat so that you don't have to. (I mean, they taste like pumpkin pie. Sort of. If it were being made by a robot who'd never tasted real pumpkin pie, but was really, really trying, really, really hard, and is now rusted from the shame of failure.)

4. The robot has never known love.

5. Things that are surprisingly classy: K-Mart's Halloween shirt selection for this year. I mean, who knew, right? But they have some lovely fall-themed stuff that manages to be seasonal, yet tasteful, and doesn't make me look like a house. Everybody wins! Especially me, as I enjoy bedecking my breasts with appliqued candy corn.

6. Places that currently have signed copies of my books, and will do mail-order: Borderlands Books in San Francisco. Other Change of Hobbit in Berkeley. Places that currently do not have signed copies of my books: pretty much everywhere else.

7. I'm attempting to finalize the liner notes source file for Wicked Girls, which means lots of cross-referencing and looking things up. Like many things in life, making an album is infinitely more complicated than it seems at first glance.

8. I fly to New York one week from today. This means I'm going to be scrambling to catch up with everything before I go, and then probably not posting much for about a week. I promise I will not be eaten by a grue.

9. Summer is spewing its last gasps all over the Bay Area, resulting in my wearing less clothing in September than I did in August. There is something very wrong here.

10. I feel a rant about holidays coming on. But not until I've had more caffeine.

How's by you?

I can't wait to see it. If you need any costume details, just let me know.
You'll be at NYCC? EXCELLENT.
I will! I'll post my schedule soon.
I'm so sorry to have missed your reading on Saturday! The dissertation chapter, it was not finished, and I was therefore not allowing myself to go anywhere or do anything. When the chapter is finished, I will go to the Other Change of Hobbit and buy one of those signed copies, and that will be enough.
It's okay. I'm sorry you couldn't be there.
I'm leaving for a week in Germany on Wednesday, and that's pretty much all I can think of today. WHEEEE!
Have an insanely wonderful time!
Why must you come to NY when I will be in CA?? :(
The universe is toying with you.
I have discovered I have the sweetest housemates ever, because they pay attention to my gchat status message (I want Pixy Stixs and Pomegranate Rockstar and Bawls. Screw a pony!) which I am super grateful for, because News Internship is Hard During College. One of my best friends in the entire damn world also comes home from England on Wednesday, so I'm hopeful I can swap my Wed. shift, and go sit at the airport reading Artificial Night while I wait for his flight.
That's fantastic. :)
In perfect Monday morning fashion, while the drugs for the killing of my sinus infection are working, I woke up this morning trying to cough up both my lungs. That is not a happy way to wake up, and caused me to snap at my husband, due more to fear than him having done anything actually wrong. This is not happy, but only leads to the classic Garfield response.

I hate Mondays.
...oh, honey. :(

I am not typing this comment out at work, for starters. >.>

I completely agree with #9 as it's doing the same out here in SoCal.

I have not come up with a good reason for why the Library I work at should purchase your books as they are not Jewish Related nor written by a Jewish Author. Maybe when they get translated into Hebrew!

Deadlines! Deeeeaaaadlines this week.
How about the fact at least two of Seanan's beta readers are Orthodox Jews? 8-)

(OK, that probably won't work either, but it was a nice thought...)

About to leave my motel for Disneyland!
(Last day this trip.)
I hope you had a great time.
Have you seen Halloween Jones Soda anywhere? My normal places Target and World Market - they don't have it, and don't think they are getting any in. So I am looking, and I suspect you haunt more Halloween displays then I do.
Not yet, but it sometimes comes into stock later.

Nervously waiting on a job-callback. If they decide not to go with me, it's not the end of the world...but I was a really good fit, and think I might do well there. Answers are good.

Waiting on my copy of An Artificial Night, as my local bookstore is "Out with a capital O; we have more on order, no worries!"

And having words with one of my two cats, who is "helping" me type this (Feline Keyboard Sprawl; what can a poor two-leg do?); she sends you purrs.

AngelVixen :-)
Kitty!
* am currently annoyed that the spousebeast won the d10 roll and gets to read 'Feed' first (yes, most major household decisions are made over a d10)
* found out that my 13 year old is reading 'The Inferno' for fun. This while he's still in the school system that had him in special ed for three years
*I set up my sewing machine and am making cute, dorky Halloween-themed aprons.
"The Inferno" _is_ fun. :) If he can get through "Purgatorio" and "Paradiso", I will be FLOORED.

I now have a mental image of Seanan prancing around with stick-on tattoo appliques over her bare breasts.

Running away now.

ETA: That is - stick-on tattoo appliques of candy corn on her bare breasts. Someday I will learn to put all the words into a sentence that belong there the first time.
I, however, am contemplating Seanan's bare breasts bedecked with actual candy corn.

Then I was contemplating HFCS candy corn vs. regular sugar candy corn.

Thought process degrades from there...

I spent forty-five minutes this morning with someone who speaks in tongues and is a former drug-addicted felon, now turned speaks-in-tongues-has-PTSD-and-other-issues individual. And then thirty minutes of arguing with insurance about pre-existing clauses. And proof of prior coverage. And three and a half hours without my engagement ring on because my hubby-to-be was getting it inspected while I was at work.

I hate Mondays.
Wow.

You win.
I'm deep in the midst of cataloging a library for tutors and planning explaining the library plan to the new tutors. Its exciting and rather terrifying, also this week all my classes seem to have something due in them.

In terms of pop tarts, Smitten Kitchen has a recipe for homemade pop tarts, they might be yummy with homemade pumpkin pie filling.

The weather has been crazy, it finally feels like fall again here in Michigan, which is good. 80 degree weather near the end of September is disconcerting.
I shall have to try this recipe.
By me is excellent! A sunnyish Tuesday morning, regular job to go to, and our weekly Tuesday Night Dinner Potluck to go to.

(I just wake up merry. Cope.)
Hey, there's nothing wrong with waking up merry!

Pumpkin Pie Pop-tarts. Someone call Alton Brown, this deserves a Do-Over The Right Way.
Yeeeeeeeeah.
Pumpkin Pie Pop Tarts? You know, that makes me think about the Toaster Strudel commercials that bash Pop Tarts, and that makes me want Toaster Strudel to make a pumpkin pie flavor.
For all we know, the people at Pillsbury have tried it already, said "eww," and gone on to make Strawberry Cream Cheese Toaster Strudel.

I'm home from a short-term, short-notice trip to California.

*grin*
Good for you!
Oh, good grief, the holidays are approaching. That means I need to remember to carry my iPod and headphones everywhere to avoid the tragic consequences of Muzak overload.
I was at World Market on Friday and the Xmas ornaments were out already. I was sad.

I'm sitting on campus outside but under shade, reading various bits and pieces for my classes and making notes for assignments.

It kind of feels good to be back in the swing of things, as far as "getting an education" goes. And I suspect that a degree in Communications is /exactly/ up my alley. So overall this is a good thing.
I read 'Everglades' and it made me sad.
Good.
It's Spirit Week at the school I teach at, so I get to dress up in wacky clothing ALL WEEK LONG! Each day has a different theme, you see. Today was neon day, which, really, was just an amazing thing.

Also, I'm learning karate, but I broke my collar bone last class (we call this "ninja fail"). Soooo, dress up this week involves my sling as an accessory. My students want to fabric paint it... Like signing a cast, but not.
AWESOME.
Lucky Seanan with summer weather! We seem to have skipped fall and gone straight into winter - grey skies and lots of rain :-( Oh wait, I live in England - it's always like that here, right? ;-)

And Christmas cards have been in the shops for at least three weeks :-( But then, it IS our next holiday ...

You mean no one's commercialized Guy Fawkes Day? Lucky you. We get Halloween and Christmas shoved down our throats in August. Thanksgiving is mostly left alone by retailers. And if that alone doesn't make us thankful, nothing will.

I'd meant to tell you - Target has some fun Halloween shirts, too. I got a black one with silver spiderwebs and a spider on it for pretty cheap. Hooray for Halloween!
I have that one! It's splendid.
