Ten good things about today.

10. It's Friday! And that means that tomorrow is Saturday, which further means that it's finally time for me to have a book event at the Other Change of Hobbit! Conveniently located next to Ashby BART, spacious, and full of neat things, this is one of my favorite bookstores. You should totally come.

9. Karen Healey (I know, right?) has a poll for the best moment of WorldCon 2010/Aussiecon IV, and yes, my squeaky acceptance of the Campbell Award is currently in the lead. Which is the sort of thing that makes me blink and cry a little. But in the good way, I promise! Also, John Scalzi licking stuff.

8. After our horrible "oh crap the house is full of fleas" experience this summer, everything seems to have settled down. Alice's belly-fur is growing back, no one's trying to claw their own flesh off, and our strict regimen of flea powdering the carpets and pouring poison on the cats is keeping the blood-suckers away. Thank the Great Pumpkin.

7. SHARKTOPUS! Tomorrow night on SyFy! Because Coyote loves me and wants me to be happy.

6. By the same measure, have you seen Jane Austin's Fight Club? Because seriously, this video is love. (Technically safe for work, if you're allowed to watch videos at work and feel like doing some potentially awkward explaining about why all those girls are smacking the crap out of each other.)

5. Resident Evil: Afterlife actually doesn't suck. I know, I'm as surprised as you are. Sort of tickled, too, but mostly just surprised. It's not as good as Resident Evil: Apocalypse, but then, what is?

4. Jean Grey is still dead.

3. Things that are back on the air: Glee, Fringe, Big Bang Theory, Bones, and America's Next Top Model. Things that have managed to stick the landing in their season finales: Rizzoli and Isles, Leverage, Unnatural History, and Warehouse 13. Things that make me happy: watching too much television.

2. Despite my currently perennially delayed posting schedule (curse you, Australia, and your lack of Internet), the latest iteration of the Traveling Circus and Snake-Handling Show went well, and we all had a fantastic time. Plus, the bookstore now has signed books, and that makes everything wonderful.

...and the best thing about today...

1. Welcome to fall.

What's awesome about your Friday?

I get to fly to SoCal (which'll be fun despite triple-digit meltingness...dannit!) to enjoy A Wither's Tale, as well as visit w/a mess o' good friends 'n' fambily!
It's payday. Which means I got to deal with some lingering medical bills. I also got to go GROCERY SHOPPING!!! Which I love all out of proportion to how much I should love it. Trader Joe's makes me happy. Having food makes me happy. Thinking about the delicious food I will make (PUMPKIN OATMEAL FOR EVERYONE!!!) makes me happy.

Also this month is almost over, and all good things are coming in October, so I'm in a hurry for it be October already.
Bleh It was somewhat LESS payday than I hoped. That's okay. It was still payday. :)

Firebreathing, stiltwalking clowns, I hope.

And if not, the great Peep circus geek show will have to do in a pinch...
I'm in the midst of reading Karen Healey's Guardian of the Dead and want to move back to New Zealand again.

Though I've lost my copy of Tam Lin and Borders doesn't have it in stock, curse them. I need my Classics' majors Faeries.

I'm having a productive morning of being a reference librarian and feeling quite useful and get to RP tomorrow.
Hooray!
I'm practicing a talk on one of Saturn's moons that I'll be giving to a bunch of other astronomers in two weeks. (Well, closer to one, since I'm speaking the first day.)
Fantastic!
I am excited about Sharktopus too!!!!! I just hope it isn't as disappointing as mega shark vs giant octopus was.... that could have been so much better
Absolutely agreed. There's bad, and then there's WHY GOD WHY?!
Well, it's not so much what is awesome about my Friday, but one of the things that has been awesome about my week so far (which has also involved dentist and computer breakdown, so it badly needed some awesome) was getting hold of a copy of An Artifial Night. Cheered me up no end.

(In the UK, incidentally -- yes, you have fans over here!)

(Now I'm just pondering whether to pre-order your new CD . . . the odds are that the answer will be 'yes'.)
I'm so glad you got a copy!
Today's my last day at what I can now call my old job, and I'm moving to Columbus tomorrow. Today's supposed to be payday, too, but I'm not seeing my check in my account yet.
Awesome.
We had a similar flea infestation earlier this summer and our key -- sounds like yours -- was Borax powder on everything, scrub scrub scrub, then vacuum. It was a lot of work, but haven't had a flea since, plus all our furniture got cleaned!
So there's always a silver lining.
My large hermit crab (Hera, the one pictured with Rosemary and Rue in http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e257/Jacylrin/20091129hera2.jpg ) survived molting, which makes me happy. This morning I noticed that there was a tunnel reaching the surface from where she had dug down to molt (under the water dish), so I picked up the water dish, and was thrilled to see movement in Hera's shell. I moved Hestia out of the burrow so Hera can finish eating her old exoskeleton in peace.

This afternoon/tonight we buy the 11 year old new pointe shoes and make pumpkin pie.
Om nom exoskeleton nom.

Is dying during molting common?

Is the adorably squeaky Campbell acceptance on video anywhere? Because it is a thing of wonder and must be shared.

Today's happy is brought to you by corporate marketing. I'm getting a perm, lunch, stocking my medicine cabinet, getting imported yummies, and ice cream -= all for under $30 total. Thanks to Pivot Point, CVS, Noodles & Co, Cost Plus, and Baskin Robbins who were all foolish enough to have coupons.
Yes!

Video of the Hugo Award ceremony is now up on <http://www.thehugoawards.org/>www.hugoawards.org</a>.

The Campbell award presentation starts at 23:50 on the video.

And Yay! today is my birthday! (Not going to tell you how old I am, but Toby Daye and I remember the same TV shows being new.)

Speaking of Jane Austen.

Have fun tomorrow! May all of your cupcakes be yummy!
There were no cupcakes, but the Halloween candy was aces.
Well, for one, it is Satyrday. Other awesome bits include the Farmer's Market, then a nice long drive to the farm, and then - rarest of commodities - slack!

For the value of slack that involves cooking, cleaning and building a smokehouse.
I appreciate this value of slack greatly.
#4 made me laugh my a$$ off!

And I turned in my line edits! Huzzah! Good times. :-D
Woo! Go team you!
I just took Melissa, our legal assistant (and childhood friend of mine!) out to lunch at an enjoyable Mexican restaurant. She's been a boon and a blessing to the office while she's in-between jobs as an interior designer.
Our conversation about her trip to Italy qualifies as awesome, I think. I love history and hearing about foreign places.

I've seen Jane Austin's Fight Club. It was hilarious.

Resident Evil: Afterlife is something I would see whether it sucked or not, just because I bought into the other three movies. I'm glad to hear it qualifies as good (for a post-apocalyptic measure of "good") and intend to see it next week with a friend.

I watched Glee's premiere and am looking forward to watching my recording of Bones. I love both those shows.

Jean Grey is still dead, really? That will change. Give it time and some new writers. She's the Phoenix -- coming back from the dead is what she does. Currently I'm only reading Warren Ellis's run on "Astonishing X-Men" and the "Xenogenesis" book. I'm trying to fill in my Grant Morrison collection on his New X-Men run, too.
Jean Grey is still dead, really?

Mr. Sinister: Um...now look...now look, mate, I've definitely 'ad enough of this. This mutant is definitely deceased, and when I purchased it not 'alf an hour ago, you assured me that its total lack of movement was due to it bein' tired and shagged out following a prolonged crossover.
*laugh* Jean Grey will be back. You know she will.

But I'm hoping to get at least a few more years out of the interesting pairing of Cyclops and the White Queen. Emma = Tough Love.
I hope so, too.
I read this, and thought of you. I vaguely remember something you wrote which connects with this. Also, I would have linked the original, but you can jump to it from there, and trying to read the original made me think, "AGGH ARRGH MY EYES USE A BIGGER FONT YOU TWIT."
This pleased me immensely.
The most awesome thing about my Friday will be when it ends, at like 11pm tonight, because tonight is my last final for the quarter, and this has been a very hard quarter.

The most awesome thing *ever* is going to be on Monday, when I fly off to Italy for three months.
Woo!
4. Jean Grey is still dead
"Permanently" would be nice.

No love for the Eureka mid-season finale? I thought they did okay with it, for trying to play with time travel.
I loved it, especially since now Grant is gone. He annoyed me deeply.

1. Breakfast was a Pumpkin Cream Cheese Muffin (and tall latte) from Starbucks.

2. I'm looking forward to the Baltimore Book Festival tomorrow. They've lured Esther Friesner down to be part of a YA panel.

3. Next Friday kicks off one of my favorite events of the year, the Folklore Society of Greater Washington's annual Getaway. I'm busy cramming as many traditional and traditional-sounding folksongs into my brain as I can. One of the ones I'm hoping to get around to learning is a little number titled "I Gotta Find a Woman with a Chainsaw." Which surprisingly has no mention of fending off zombie hordes as a reason. However, being a filker, I am entirely capable of repairing this flaw (*grin*).
Awesome!
This is not the most awesome Friday ever.

Vicky is finally getting her surgery, replacing all the rods in her back and fusing several verterbrea in her neck. This actually a good thing.

The bad part? Surgery started at 10 this morning and she's not done yet. Seven hours were mentioned as an outside time, it's now almost ten. So it's a mixed bag of a day.

Once I've seen Vicky all doped up and in recovery it will be a great Friday, I'm not accepting another outcome.
Oh, honey.

I hope this all turned out well.

Oh, awesome.
It's awesome that it's now Saturday and it's Grand Final day! What else is awesome was that link to Jane Austen's Fight Club. Laugh? I nearly died! Seriously when is that being released in the cinemas?
I don't know, but I want it now.
Here is something else awesome - a fish so badass it has teeth on it's tongue.
