Leave a comment, win an ARC.

I'm too tired to be creative, so it's once more time for everyone's favorite ARC giveaway, the random drawing. To participate...

1) Leave a comment telling me why you like Toby. As a reply to the entry, please, not as a reply to someone else's comment. Replies to other people's comments can't win anything.
2) That's all.

But there's a twist! This time, I'm selecting three winners of a signed ARC of An Artificial Night, the third October Daye adventure. The first will be chosen at noon Pacific time on Sunday, August 8th; the second will be chosen at noon Pacific time on Monday, August 9th; and the third will be chosen at eight PM Pacific time on Monday, August 9th. All winners will have twenty-four hours from the time they're announced to provide me with a mailing address before I pick another winner.

The winner will be chosen via random number generation, so going "ooo, ooo, pick me" doesn't improve your chances, it just makes me faintly grumpy. So comment, and let me know why you like Toby—her world, her stories, her as a person, whatever. Maybe you could win an early look!

I like Toby because despite the trauma of what happened to her and what she's lost she hasn't let that drag her down. She's a fighter.
I like Toby because she's effing resilient. Seriously, that woman takes a licking and keeps on ticking.
I like Toby because she's the unwilling heroine. She never wants to get involved in what she gets involved with, but because she's got a hell of a sense of duty and honor, she's there. And typically covered in blood of some sort (mostly hers). With Tybalt somewhere in the background (Tybalt is such love, don't even comment on the degree of fangirl I've got going on where he's concerned). Like I said in the review I'm waiting on my editor to post, Toby cuts across the gaps to remind people that it's who you are, not what you are, that matters. And it's nice to have something fae that isn't porn. Even though porn can be nice. But that's what the internet is for.
I like Toby because she doesn't give up.

I like how Toby can both kick ass and still have those days in which the universe is out to get her.

Also, although I'm not prone to actually writing fanfic, I totally ship Toby/Tybalt. Or Toby/Luidaeg. Or Toby/Tybalt/Luid - ok kidding about the last one.

Toby/Tybalt is LOVE. SERIOUSLY. Want.
One of the many reasons I like Toby is because she wears sensible clothing. I know, it's a silly thing to focus on, but it's a pet peeve of mine when women in the urban fantasy genre who are investigators run around in heels and a tank top. Toby is smart, resourceful, and prepared. Part of being prepared is having shoes you can run (or chase) in, clothing that affords some protection or helps you blend in, and allows you to conceal a weapon.

I also like Toby because smart, competent, independent women are hot.

I dig Toby because not only is she tough, but she's also got a mixture of realism in there. Yes, she takes a licking and keeps on ticking, but she also has some realistic reactions to some of her beatings. Unlike various other heroines whose world completely changes and they get beaten up or almost die each time and the next book takes 2 weeks after the last adventure, Toby actually takes "time off" from the chaotic faery life. I like that she needs down time.
Toby is awesome and continues to push to be her own person, in spite of continually being drawn into her work as a knight errant in the Fae world.
I like Toby because the clothes of her mother's people, the ones she prefers not to wear, are cobwebby lacy faerie garb, and because she refuses Underhill mansions in order to choose tiny dark San Francisco apartments.
I like getting into her juicy, juicy brains.
I am looking forward to seeing more of how Toby gets by in San Francisco.
I like Toby due to her humor in grim situations and her will to do something dangerous instead of walking away from a situation. I think this makes her a very strong character while still making the reader laugh.
I like Toby because, as badass as she is, she remembers to feed her cats. I like her at her most normal, because it grounds all the bullets and magic flying about for most of the book.
I like the fact that she's a coffee addicted fey.
I like the fact that she's often grumpy.
I like the fact that she has Siamese cats.
I like her interplay with Tybalt.
I like the fact she doesn't give up.

I like Toby because she gives a shit about people, not just when they benefit her. Also, I like that she has trouble not saying thanks.
I like Toby because she is hilarious. Even when things are desperate she still makes me laugh... out loud.
WOW <3 Great Contest :D

I like Toby because she was such a wonderful novelty to most of the Urban Fantasy Heroines I knew so far. Although Toby is tough, like most Urban Fantasy Chicks, she has a soft Spot and a very special way to look at her life and the people around her (Fae or human) :D

I like Toby because she's flawed, and knows it, and just kinda deals and goes on.... ....but I LOVE Toby's world.
I like Toby because I see a lot of you in her.
Because Toby is tasty with A1 and/or barbecue sauce.
I love the fact that Toby is not the perfect heroine, aware of her flaws, but she still just keeps swimming. She is very tenacious.

I like Toby because she's imperfect, she knows it, and she keeps trying anyway.

ETA: I'm leaving the comment, but canceling my entry into the giveaway, because other people already said the same thing only better.
Darlin', if I was insisting everything said be unique, we'd be at "I like Toby because crayons taste like purple" by now. You're fine. :)
Because Toby is a part of your overall world, which I love.
