Machetes are great for clearing brush, which coincidentily helps you develop your zombie beheading skills. Or teenager beheading skills if you're a slasher.

Hey Seanan, Have you read the comicbook Hack/Slash? It's pretty cool. Average teenage girl befriends huge monster-type guy and goes around killing slashers (serial kills in the vein -heh- of Jason, Freddy, etc.). Very entertaining.

I used to snorkle in our family owned camp in Maine. I used a machete to cut the underwater reeds that attracted the fresh water leaches. A bowie knife could never do that.
