Two-stage ARC giveaway!

It's time for another ARC giveaway here in my weird little corner of the world. This time, it's going to be a two-fer. Specifically, we're having both a contest and a random drawing. If you comment at all, you'll be entered in the random drawing for an ARC of An Artificial Night. If you comment and participate in the contest, you'll be entered both in the random drawing, and in the judged portion of the giveaway. Ready? Awesome.

Suggested by talkstowolves, our contest for today is:

"Design signature cocktails or desserts for major characters/places in the Tobyverse."

What does the Luidaeg drink on a Friday night? What's Toby's favorite way to get wasted? How many virgin cocktails can Quentin down before he reaches legal age? Whip up something intoxicating and put it in the comments for the world to see.

The random drawing will be held Monday, July 12th. Voting on the cocktail/dessert competition* will begin the same day, and continue through July 15th. As no actual drinking is involved, you don't have to be twenty-one to enter, and there are lots of websites happy to help you out.

(*If we receive fewer than five entries, I won't do open judging, and the prize will be awarded based on how much I want to drink your cocktail or eat your pie.)

Game on!

For some reason I could see the Luidaeg leaving the room just saying, "oh, I'm going to go get some ice cream" and walking in with this as if she had just taken out a carton of Häagen-Dazs.

As well, I think Quentin would drink a Shirley Temple and get made fun of by Toby for it.

Don't know if either of those count as entries (I didn't design them, obviously, just found the idea amusing), so I comment for the random selection contest. :)
...yeah, so can I. And you're right: Quentin would.
I am not a good cocktail maker, so I will just comment and send love.
Okay!
commenting only because i am an unimaginative whiskey for all girl and cannot compete with some of the amazing ideas here (totally stealing for future parties, cheers guys)

Hee.
Commenting to secure place in random ARC drawing. Will consider cocktails when have eaten and am not in low blood sugar hell.
Okay!
General comment for drawing #1 - Cocktails to be considered at a later date, work permitting.. (I have ideas for names but no idea what to make them from)
Excellent.
Commenting for the random chance, and will ponder potions later
Works for me.
Toby's Enlightenment:

1 shot Creme de Menthe
1 shot Creme de Cacao
1 shot Grand Mariner
Four shots espresso
Steamed milk to top off a mondo latte.

Is it just me, or does anyone else think Tybalt might secretly be the one character who can't hold his liquor? ;)

I am entering in the random drawing! :D
He'd be so cute drunk.
One part Green Fairy Absinthe (http://www.bourbonstreetwineandspirits.com/r/products/green-fairy-absinthe?utm_source=Google;utm_medium=Feed)

One part Green Chartreuse (http://www.webtender.com/db/ingred/68)

One part Rose Without Thorns Liquor (http://www.de-ooievaar.nl/english/liquors.php?id=71)
(For a weaker drink, substitute nonalcoholic Sence rose nectar http://www.sencenectar.com/)

Freeze a miniature edible rose in an ice cube and float it in the center(http://whatscookingamerica.net/EdibleFlowers/EdibleFlowersMain.htm)
...

I am so coming over.
I'm not much of a drinker, but I was recently introduced to one of those drinks that, if they were available more often, I think I would be, and it occurs to me that it would be the perfect thing for a stressed kitsune to wind down with, so I imagine that Sylvester will keep the makings handy for a Dark and Stormy: real, strong ginger beer, dark rum, and a twist of lime over crushed ice.
Oooooooooooooo.
[I would like to enter as a noncombatant, because this is fun.]

Connor's cocktail is one part Gosling's Black Seal rum and one part Godiva Caramel Milk Choclate Liqueur, served over ice, in a tumbler with a sea-salt rim.

Toby's dessert for Tybalt is two toasted Chocolate Fudge Pop-Tarts crumbled over a saucer of half a cup of cream. (Milk goes off in a week, but cream takes much longer to spoil.)

Devin's remedy for Toby has to be sweet, bitter, gingery, yellow, evil, and served hot. To 1 cup of boiling water, add a tablespoon of sugar, and 2 oz Limoncello, 1 oz Apple Pie liqueur, 1 oz Ginger liqueur, 1 oz everclear. Add a pinch of baking soda and watch it fizz menacingly. Stir with a cinnamon stick and drink before you think about it too hard.

How many virgin cocktails can Quentin down before he reaches legal age?

Fourteen, obviously.

For the Luidaeg:

1 oz very peaty whiskey
1 oz Maotai (Moutai)
1 oz Clam Juice
Splash of bitters
Splash of tomato juice
Serve with a salt rim on the glass and possibly some seaweed or an oyster at the bottom.

Please note, I do not actually recommend drinking this, but given the descriptions of her concoctions it seemed appropriate.
...yeah, no. NOT FOR HUMANS.

Toby's Late Night (to be made only when a case causes insomnia)

Layer the following in a narrow, clear glass (listed from bottom to top for ease):
1 shot White Creme de Cocoa
1 shot Kahlua
1 shot creme de menthe
2 shots strong espresso
1 shot vodka

Examine drink. Enjoy the pretty, pretty layers. Amuse self by poking at the glass for a bit. Sniff, hoping for coffee smell, and get nose full of vodka fumes instead. Wheeze slightly.

Strike match and light vodka. Burns nice, huh? Admire the pretty, pretty fire. Convince self this was only rational way to keep coffee warm. No, really. Good plan.

Contemplate pending case, attractiveness of layered drink, mounting danger of fire. At last possible sensible moment, slap hand down on top of glass to put out fire. Pick up pretty, delicate layered drink and shake like you're wringing someone's neck. Maybe your client's. Maybe your own. Some days, it's hard to tell. Continue shaking until you start to feel better and/or silly.

Return drink to table, lick palm clean, and add lime-green bendy straw. Drink faster than is probably sensible, preferably while watching an infomercial.
Love!

Here's me making sure I'm at least in the random give away. Now to do some serious thinking on that recipe.
Excellent.
Tybalt would have cheesecake with a thin coating of chocolate and a pool of caramel in the center fenced in with chunks of brownies.

Something like this:
http://laroccacakes.com/product/detail/cheesecakes03.html
Mmmmmmyeah.
Not a dessert cook and not much of a drink mixer (yet!) but here's my comment in case I can't manage to come up with any tasty mocktails for poor Quentin.
Most excellent.
As I'm not really a mixologist or drinker(funny,I guess that is one reaction to one of your parents being an alcoholic), I think I'll partipate in the first portion of the drawing.
Good plan.
This post is making me SO HUNGRY. Aka, this is my official random-drawing-entry post, and I will be making every single chocolatey dessert and virgin drink on this list.
Win!

Correction, for a dessert mixture for Toby be Creampuffs filled with Vanilla cream with injections of Kaluha and White Chocolate Godiva and Chambord.
Noted.
How about hot cocoa, 1 oz coffee brandy, and a cinnamon stick?
For who?

I have no aptitude for mixing drinks, but I would love an ARC
Noted.
Wheeee! A giveaway. How very nice :)
Thank you. :)
Tybalt--a Stinger made with brandy and crème de catmenthe.
Oh, lovely.
