Deliver me from evil and deliver me from darkness...deliver me from Bobby Cross.
Rose Marshall has dared the Ocean Lady and come out the other side—but what does she have, and what has she paid? Her journey's barely starting, and she has a long, long way to go before she has a chance in hell of making it to harbor. And once you're dead, risking your life becomes a lot more terrifying...
Issue 53 of The Edge of Propinquity is live, and with it, the fifth of the Sparrow Hill Road stories is available. "El Viento del Diablo" takes us back into the daylight America, where Rose is running ragged...and a man named Bobby Cross is running too close for comfort. Deliver me from evil and deliver me from darkness, and deliver me, O Lord, from Bobby Cross.
There are a lot of stories trapped and tangled in the twilight. This is only one of them. But it's the one I have to tell.
Y'know, I watch for her when I'm driving long distances at night. Haven't seen her yet. But there's an old jacket in my back seat for anyone who needs it.
Yup, that's what did it for me as well. It was almost a happy ending, in a reverse sort of way. A 'right' ending, sort of sad and happy at hte same time.
I really want to read these stories as a collection...
Wow, okay, I just read through all 5 chapters so far.
I'm... creeped out by how many aspects of it seem familiar to me, and I don't mean the plots of the stories. I suppose, knowing it's you, that I shouldn't be, but there you go.
Note to Seanan: just finished reading FEED. Do you have any idea how annoying it is to have family members interrupting you every five minutes through the last 60 pages when all you want to do is to feel the emotions that you (the author) make come to life? Even when that emotion is "ball your eyes out."
...
That was the most amazing thing I've read in AGES and that includes all of my favorite books.
Must find the spoilers post you posted and discuss there.

Seconded.
You've inspired me to start watching the roads/roadsides.

And of course, I'm up WAY too late. Goodnight!
