If I even survived the Rising (and I might not because I'm middle aged, overweight, and do a desk job):

I'd be a Stewart, and believe you me, I'd have been commenting left and right about everything that came out of After The End Times.

A Fictional. Possibly with Newsie tendencies... at least along the lines of 'Science Blogging' -- not so much the fieldwork. Considering the situation, I'd suspect a post-Rising me* would have gone into biology or medical research instead of astronomy. Depending on if the NSF's/NASA's budget gets gutted to fund the CDC and the NIH.

* That is, someone who grew up after the Rising.
