Please don't leave me alone with eight dozen cupcakes.

Here's your friendly neighborhood Disney Halloweentown Princess with a cheerful reminder that tomorrow, I'll be appearing at Borderlands Books in San Francisco from five to nine PM in my role as Mira Grant, Destroyer of Worlds. As I have ordered eight dozen mini cupcakes for this event, leaving me to my own devices may result in some actual destroying of man, as I will get all hopped-up on sugar and then people will die. Save the world. Come to my party and eat a cupcake.

More seriously, this is to celebrate my first book as Mira, Feed (Newsflesh I), which came out on April 27th. It's been getting really awesome reviews, and has caused several of my friends to threaten to hit me (that's how you know it's good). It's dystopian science fiction with zombies in—sort of a cross between The West Wing, Night of the Living Dead, and Transmetropolitan—and I'm really, really proud of it.

There will be cupcakes. Naked cats. Discussion. Readings (yes, possibly plural; I'm planning to read the first chapter of Feed, and I'm bringing some of my dead-stuff themed short stories to read later in the evening). Plus, awesome bookstore full of awesome books. And I will be happy to sign books published under my own name, as well as under Mira's, so anything you want to buy and shove in front of me will be awesome.

If you can't make it, remember that you can contact the bookstore and request a signed or personalized book of your very own. They make excellent gifts, doorstops, and base materials for the manufacture of paper-mache masks, in addition to making me do a little dance when the pile of things-to-sign is placed in front of me. Support local bookstores (no one said who they had to be local to...).

I hope I'll see you there! As a special added bonus, if you let me know that you're planning to show up, I'll try to make sure that we save you a cupcake.

Zombies rule!

Sadly I can't make it as I have a theater fund raising gala to attend instead. Which shall be fun, admittedly, but far less full of zombies.

I hope anyway.
Have fun!
Did you order the cupcakes from the Borderlands Cafe?
Nope, from Cups and Cakes Bakery.
Are you familiar with the bookstore Dark Delicacies in Burbank? They do all kinds of spec fic, not just horror, and the owner is really sharp (and loves the genre). If you ever get down to L.A. that might be a good place to do a reading.
I've heard of them, and really hope to do an event there someday!

Awesome.
Due to the cruelty of Geography, I can't be there, but I will find myself a cuppycake and continue reading the book, and pretend I'm there.

Hey, on a related note, is there a thread going in your journal for discussing the book without people having to hide from spoilers? I gots ... Questions.
Not as yet, no. Do you think we need one?

*wants cupcakes*

*is in LA... drat.*

Also, another good story in regards to my roommate. She was reading Feed (which she picked up at the bookfair as well) on the bus and completely missed her stop. Then she stayed up until four in the morning reading it. If that's not a sign of a good book, I don't know what is!
Life is hard. :(

Also, yay!

I hope your party will be all you would wish. :)

(I shall be in Seattle. This means I shall see skydancer when he returns from yet another business trip this evening, so I'm not hugely upset.)
Awesome! Hug him for me.
I would willing come and share a cup cake or two with you. I would also love to hear you read but I live in the UK.

Have a great day though and good luck with the book...Zombies Rule!
Thank you!

Awesome, on all counts. :)
I am sadly not in the same state, or I would totally drop by Borderlands. I am, however, going out of town to deliver a copy of FEED to my mother for her birthday/mother's day gift.
That rules.
I'm gonna try to attend.
I'd love to see you.
fionn320 and I should be there, though we won't need cupcakes saved unless you happened to order a few vegan ones in anticipation of our attendance.
I was so glad you came!
Congrats. I wish I could be there but I haven't moved across the Pacific Ocean yet.

I did however recommend Feed to the TA of the English class I took this semester. Intro to Lit: Genre (Science Fiction). And hopefully she'll mention it to the prof.

I like sleeping so I will not be reading Feed. Zombies and I don't get along. But I did go to the tv tropes site and enjoyed that tremendously.

Awesome! And I fully understand your reluctance. :)
I miss you, cotton candy cupcake.
And the cotton candy cupcake misses you, too.
I'm in a completely different country, so I can't attend - alas - but I just got my copy of Feed and the only reason I'm being productive at all is my lunchbreak is almost over and I can't read any more until the end of my day. But dear lord this book is brilliant! I can't wait to finish it. Gonzo Journalism and modified Ebola - 2 of my favorite things! I'm only 100 pages in and I can't stop grinning. This is definitely getting rec'd to ALL my friends, and I won't rest (heh) until they read it....
Brilliant! Yay!
I'll be there with 3 books to get signed, but I may duck out mid party for dinner. When I do, I'll tell you where I'm going and if you want something brought back for you.

I picked up Feed and supported a local bookstore with it! Weirdly, the big chain here in Edmonton (Chapters/Indigo/Coles) isn't stocking it at all. But I actually used a phone (shiver) and found the only copy at Audrey's, an independent bookstore downtown.

I am now a third of the way through and although it may not be the best time to read it (I'm in a state of heightened anxiety and playing adorable flash games can be too much for my nerves right now) I can't resist.
I ordered it online from Chapters/Indigo and just got a notice that it's out of stock and I'll have to wait two more weeks!!!

Time to stop being a thrifty, responsible adult-facsimile and get my Feed fix elsewhere. Tomorrow the hunt begins.

Ah, well... at least my copy of A Local Habitation arrived today. ::pets the shiny::

I'll probably make it, though I have to skedaddle by 7 :(
It was good to see you!
:sigh: I'm nowhere near SF. I did find out the Feed shipped out with my last book order, so I'll be reading it sometime later this week. Maybe I'll make my own cupcakes and be with you in spirit while I eat and read. =o)

I hope you have an awesome booksigning.
I did! Report is forthcoming,
It sounds lovely. Is there any chance you'd do a reading in Seattle, either as Mira or as yourself?
I'll be up there in July, as part of the Murder and Mayhem tour! More details coming soon.

Just wanted to let you know I picked up Feed over the weekend, at the Hastings in Maryville. It's not quite a local, but it's at least a smallish chain (I think).

I found it more or less by luck -- I walked in, walked to Horror, looked there, didn't find it. Tried SF and Mystery, also with no luck (but while I was in SF, I picked up four of the five Codex Alera books by Jim Butcher, having finally read the first one last week).

As I was walking toward the cash registers, I passed the "New Arrivals" table -- and there Feed was, facing out and everything! Huzzah!
Hooray!

And yeah, the book is science fiction, not horror; honestly, it's filed correctly, all the zombies aside. It's meant to be science fiction, regardless of what I thought while writing it.

I hope you enjoy!
