Sometimes I have the best job in the world.

I arrived home last night, essentially dead on my feet, to find a book mailer waiting for me on the front porch. Huh, I thought, and picked it up. It was from Maine. I like Maine. It was from Sharon Lee (of Lee and Miller). I like Sharon Lee. I took the book mailer inside, opened it, and shrieked, startling both the cats and my mother.

I have a signed copy of Mouse and Dragon [Amazon]. The new Liadin Universe book. The direct sequel to Scout's Progress, the book that hooked me on Lee and Miller in the first place (while sitting in Rika's living room in Peterborough, England, thus proving that good things come from travel). Daav and Aelliana! Possibly my favorite space opera romantic couple, like, ever!

Did I mention that it's signed? To me? Because oh, right, I gave them a cover blurb, which is right there on the back cover. My very first published cover blurb, and it's on a Liadin novel by Lee and Miller.

As my beloved Deborah recently said to me, FUCK YEAH, SEAKING. (It's a Pokemon joke. Don't worry about it. On second thought, maybe you should worry about me making Pokemon jokes.)

If you're not familiar with Lee and Miller's work, you should be. They do space opera the way it's meant to be done, sort of Jane Austen meets rip-roaring adventure and also, starships. There's a compilation of three of the "origin stories" coming out soon, titled Dragon Variations, and the rest of the series is reasonably easy to track down.

I love these books enough to write cover blurbs for them. Also, I have a signed copy of Mouse and Dragon, which proves, beyond the shadow of a doubt, that it's awesome.

FUCK YEAH, SEAKING.

Glee.

Oh, you bastard (TM Mike W)! I've been waiting for that book (ever since I read Scout's Progress!), it's not going to be available here for about a month...

(Srsly kewl you doing back blurb for it!)
It's not actually available here, either. I got lucky. ;)

As long as it isn't puns, you're probably fine.
That's a relief.
What a wonderful mail surprise. I've been a fan of Lee & Miller for years. Love their work. I think I have all their back issues and am waiting for my copy of Saltation to arrive. Will definitely buy Mouse and Dragon when it comes out.
It is so so so worth it. I laughed, I cried, I exulted.
Aw man that is awesome!
It really is.
God damn fish Pokémon that are useless in their first incarnation until they evolve. I'm looking at you, Magicarp!
Aww, now you've hurt Magicarp's feelings.

Only if your princess is *still* in another castle. *smirks*
The princess took out a restraining order.

Oooooooh, eeeeenvvvyyyyyyyy!

I am, however, thoroughly pleased that my booklove has inspired booklove in you and all this wonderful contact between authors! Yay! :)
(...and pleased that your favourite is one of my two favourites of theirs, too, the other being "Local Custom".:)
Good things come from travel, and good things come from friends!
Remember coming downstairs and finding me huddled over your book? Good times. :)

I think you're going to love this one.
Things I associate with Seanan:

Plagues
Zombies
Velociraptors
Chainsaws
Repeatedly stated intentions to kill me

So, Pokemon jokes? Not that big a deal, really. :)
Fair enough!
Something more for your glee basket:

1. My roommate picked up Rosemary and Rue from the Los Angeles Times Book Fair by herself with no prompting from me. So now there are three copies of the book at my place. the ARC I got at Comic Con, the book I bought for myself and my roommates. I promised to loan her Local Habitation, of course.

2. Feed + the Weeping Angels = Really weird and scary dreams.
Regarding number 2, why did you do that to me? WHY? *fears tonight's dreams*

That is awesome, I'll have to look into those books.

And you have no idea how often "Fuck yeah, Seaking!" is said in my house.
I am now picturing you saying FUCK YEAH, SEAKING.

This fills me with joy.

NEAT!!
I'm THRILLED.
Space Opera? Sign me up!
It's really fantastic.
Can you tell me which are the first in the Liadin series? There are a bunch of books out there.
I think "Agent of Change" was first, then "Conflict of Honor" followed by "Carpe Diem". IIRC these are the 3 being reprinted (shortly) as "The Dragon Variation". (June 2010 according to rolanni.livejournal.com)

What on earth were you doing in Peterborough?
Staying with my friends Rika and David, and then Mike and Anne. I love the Peterborough graveyard.
So excited to see a sequel for Scout's Progress. Alas, the grad student here will have to wait until the paperback release. Cry.
It's so awesome. You won't be disappointed.

(dressing all in black) and you live where again? (checking for lock picks and a prybar)
NO MINE.
I'm glad for you! Enjoy your new treasure!
I keep petting it. With love.
My husband really wants to know . . . Why Seaking?
Because the Internet is very, very weird.

Hmmm... an entire series of books which I've managed to completely overlook until now.

I guess I know what I'll be buying at Marcon, eh?
They are AWESOME.

Very cool

Realy very cool.

Have I mentioned that I have a signed (by both) first edition of Agent of Change? Still yours is cooler.

Way cool! And how exciting for me to discover an author I like who likes other authors I like.
They rule. They flat-out rule.
Yay! New authors to add to my "things I should read" list :-)
Totally.
You lucky wench! I treated myself to the eARC after a particularly trying day of revisions, but the paper copy... I WANTS IT. (...my precious...)

Daav and Aelliana are my favorite space-opera couple by a friggin' mile!
ABSOLUTELY.

Best thing about the book: I knew how it ended, and it got me anyway. That's art.
