Bits for a Friday, plus the Rising is starting RIGHT NOW.

Point the first: If you're on Twitter, and either don't watch my Twitter feed or haven't checked in yet this morning, do a search for the #FEEDFriday hashtag. Seriously, this is hammered awesome, in addition to being your opportunity to win some free copies of Feed. Which is pretty cool. They make great gifts! Also great doorstops.

Point the second: While you're enjoying your zombie adventure, maybe you should stop off and take a look at http://www.thefeedbook.com/. Don't worry. I'll wait here for your shrieks of ecstatic glee at how insanely awesome that website is. I'm doing the flaily Muppet arms again. Now with an undead flair. Which...is a little disturbing, really.

Point the third: Yes, I have seen today's XKCD. Sometimes I think the cartoonist is peeking through the windows of me and my friends. And then I realize that no, we're just a type. Scared yet?

Point the fourth: I am almost done with my mind-numbingly massive full-sheet comic page explaining the Campbell Awards and expanding on my eligibility. Vixy and Cat Valente play the part of my lovely assistants, thus sparking the statement "The hardest thing I have left to draw is Cat Valente being eaten by zombies." My life, occasionally so difficult.

Point the fifth: I was in the car with my mother yesterday, and commented that I had purchased my tickets to Australia. The following conversation ensued:

Mom: "And you're coming back with a tiara."
Me: "Well, yes, I hope so, but..."
Mom: "You are."
Me: "Okay."
Mom: "I've been praying every night to the tiara gods."
Me: "...there are tiara gods?"
Mom: "There are now."
Me: "What do those even look like?"
Mom: "I don't know. But they're wearing tiaras."

So apparently I have the backing of the tiara gods in the upcoming race for the Campbell. Thanks to my mother for letting me know about this endorsement. Also, and perhaps more importantly, my mother is insane.

I think I love your mother, just a little bit. Good luck, and I will light a candle to the TiaraDeity as well.
I know I love her, so hey, let's share the adoration! :)

That's what Congresswoman Wagman is for!

And yeah, I get that. I hate needles. Haaaaaaate.
"I've been praying every night to the tiara gods."

I think the apple nut didn't fall far from the tree.
No, it really didn't.

Ooh, I love fake documents, even when they come as web ads and Facebook screenshots.

(Between your book, Boneshaker and The Forest of Hands and Teeth, I can have a Zombie Book Marathon this weekend.)
Win!
Damnit, I red all the contect on the website and now it's going to be EVEN HARDER to put off reading it until the 26th.

(The covers are GORGEOUS, holy crap. I spent a while after my copy arrived petting it.)
Content, also. I should learn to proofread.

I <3 the fake Twitter screenshots.
Me, too.
I convinced my library system to purchase Feed on pure enthusiasm. :)
You rule.
The website is awesome. I've retweeted the #feedFriday even though I doubt they'll ship to UK. Telling my family this is what I want for my Birthday.

Did I say? Website: Awesome!
I actually checked with the folks running the giveaway at Orbit, and they will ship to the UK if you win.

What do tiara gods look like? My guess is Kurt Hummel.
A very good guess.

I've only skimmed the surface (it's saved in a tab for later), but that is a GREAT web site.
I'm thrilled.
There are many types of gods like costume gods, war gods, weather gods and so on. And you have a great mom in the fact that she is supporting you so vehemently. :)
Pretty sure she can't single-handedly sway the voting public, however.
Your mother is *awesome*.
And I just pre-ordered the book for my Kindle. (-:

are the zones on the map backwards? I remember Alaska having been abandoned, but's listed on the map as Level 10 - safest zone...

They're skewed, yeah. Just look at the pretty graphics and let your eyes glaze on the numbers.
Your mom sounds AWESOME.
She is.
I grabbed a copy yesterday, and it's sitting on my desk taunting me and the deadlines that are forcing me to work instead of read. Damn deadlines.

Also, the book is oddly shaped (taller and narrower than a standard paperback.) Is there a reason or meaning behind that? Is it just an Orbit thing? Did I get a mutant? ('Cos that would be *cool*.)
It's what's called a "premium paperback." That means a slightly greater height, and correspondingly reduced width.

::chuckle::

Your mom's not insane. She's just a mom. She wants you to have that tiara, and by all the gods that exist or are yet to be dreamed into existence, you will HAVE that tiara if she has anything to say about it. :D

Fair!

Personally, I'm hoping the tiara gods will listen. 'Cause winning a major literary award in Australia would essentially prove that I control the universe.

I promise to be a loving god.
I don't know if you have any control over the site content...

But "Know your Zone" says that 10 is safe, and 2 is stupidly dangerous.

However, the slideshow box at the top describes leaving a super safe Level 2 house and entering a Level 18(!) hellhole. Seems backwards.
Also, grammar issue in that same slide - an extraneous "zombie" in the middle of a sentence.

A few other quibbles (the only link to "Be an Irwin" is in that same slideshow, several links that look promising but just go to the home page).

But overall, this is one slick site, I am very much impressed.

And it's still not out here in Canada! We have to wait until tomorrow for some reason :(
Luckily, my publisher monitors my blog (um...yeah, luckily), and is fixing all your issues. YOUR VOICE IS HEARD!

Insanity is hereditary - you get it from your kids.
I think she had it before she had me.
I'm so excited! I even wrote a zombie apocalypse poem! :D
Glee!
If they don't give you your very own tiara, I will MAKE YOU ONE.
Yes, but...I want this one.

So far at the store I work at, we have sold 3 of 8 copies which is pretty good for a first few days. I also created a endcap of zombie fiction and FEED is front and center there. And finally it goes on the MM Tower on Tuesday. :) You rule.
It's times like this that I miss working at Borders. The pay sucked, the customers made me *facepalm* and don't get me started on Corporate, but I could push my favorite authors' books to lots of people every day.

I bought the book yesterday! I wrote a review today, which I shall copy here:

I just picked up the new book from Seanan McGuire writing as Mira Grant. Feed is the first in a trilogy. It's about the aftermath of a Zombie Apocalypse in the Digital Age. Normally I hate zombie books, zombie movies, zombie anything. I have a rational fear of zombies. I have nightmares about zombies. I try to avoid zombies like the plague or a zombie-inducing virus. But Seanan is just so damned good at what she does! She makes zombies fun. So if I were going to apply any sort of zombie media to my brain, it would be her zombie trilogy. *waves to Seanan*
And yes, I did see the zombie-related XKCD strip. It is awesome. That's my kind of zombie movie.

Glee!

So glad you liked it. :)
I've been attending Malice Domestic, a mystery con, this weekend. Yesterday there was a panel with the nominees for best novel(the awards are the Agathas). Somewhere along the line it was decided that they should all wear tiaras. It was further decided that they should add a personal touch to the tiaras. (And when I say it was decided, I mean by the authors themselves) Even though the authors were providing their own tiaras, I thought of you.
AWESOME.
