One, five, they're all numbers, right?

Tomorrow, Feed is officially released. That's one. Saturday, Feed is guaranteed to be on sale everywhere. That's five. Numbers, numbers, numbers. I am defined by numbers. Numbers are my bread and my butter, and the things that keep me from going crazy in a bad way.

Both of these are prime. That's something.

I'm a lot mellower about this book release than I expected to be. This may be because I'm getting better at this whole "book release" thing, or it may just be that I'm still completely exhausted following all the crazy surrounding A Local Habitation and finishing Deadline, and simply lack the energy to be insane. I still teared up the first time I saw it on an actual shelf in an actual store (the Borders in Pleasant Hill). Which reminds me, these are the locations where you can buy a signed copy, right now:

* Borders, Pleasant Hill
* Barnes & Noble, San Bruno

Both stores also have signed copies of the Toby Daye books. If you're not local, or want something personalized, remember that I'll be appearing at Borderlands Books on Saturday, May 8th. The store does take requests for personalized books to be mailed basically anywhere on this planet. You can email or call them, and I'd be just tickled to sign a book for you during the event. (Plus, well, if you can't support your local by buying a signed book, be a sport and support my local.)

One day, five days, and my second book release of the year is fully and finally underway, the next grand adventure off and running. I am elated and terrified, and tired.

I need a nap.

I just finished reading Rosemary and Rue and it was wonderful, by the way.

As per trektone, FEED is already available at Dark Carnival too!

I got my notice this morning that Feed had shipped and I should have it tomorrow...

Saw it yesterday at the Bookstar (basically a B&N) in Town and Country in Phoenix. It was one of those slightly taller paperback books -- I hadn't realized that. They had a bunch of rows of it in the new books display.

Yeah, it's a premium paperback, which makes it easier to hit people with.

Preordered so it is in my kindle for tomorrow's commute.

Sadly, I don't think it's Kindle enabled until May 1. I took a look today, as I don't have easy access to major bookstores, only small independent ones that are often a week behind pub dates for new authors. (Not complaining, just explaining my hunt on Kindle.)

It is not, alas, because that would be awesome. It's the last name of Starla Grant from James Gunn's excellent Slither. My pseudonym is a complicated horror movie in-joke.

Congratulations!

1 is not prime, though. (The common definition "only has two divisors" is unfortunately not correct, though quoted a lot. "Has exactly two divisors" is better, though the right definition is "the ring [of integers] module the number is a field" [this extends to primality over any ring, and thus is a superior definition], and "{0}" is not a field because one of the field axioms is 0<>1).

I now return you to your scheduled "OMG! FEED IS OUT!"

Ask any five mathematicians whether "1" is prime, get up to five different answers. I need primes to keep me sane, ergo, in my universe, one remains a prime.

A friend of mine saw Feed at our local Barnes and Noble Saturday. I'm refraining from getting my copy for now only because I have 42 term papers to grade in the next week, and the last thing I need is a distraction I can't put down. But as soon as those suckers are finished, I'm getting it.

As I was IMing you earlier to say, I read Feed over the weekend (the local Borders seems to shelve books a little early), and it was one of the best books I've read in months.

Picked up my copy at B&N yesterday--they had a bunch faced out in the "new in" section. Only a few chapters in but loving it so far. Cheers!

Amazing, incredible...just wow. Every time I thought I saw something coming, the story veered into entirely new levels of awesome.
