Time for another FAQ party!

This one comes in two parts. Part the first: The Toby Daye FAQ is looking a little thin on the ground, with very few questions directly relating to the books themselves. Please give the FAQ a glance, if you get the chance, and propose new questions? I want to get things cleaned up and updated. In, y'know, my copious spare time.

Part the second: The Horror Movie Survival FAQ is going to be moving to MiraGrant.com with the launch of the new site. I know, I know, it's a sad day. But it'll fit in better there, and I'll have a lot of really awesome opportunities to update and expand.

This means I need a new "silly" FAQ for my main site...and that's where today comes in. I'm going to do a Fairy Tale and Ballad Survival FAQ. Please propose questions, offer survival tips, whatever comes to mind, and I'll get started from there! Help protect a new generation of children from evil stepmothers, wicked witches, inexplicable beanstalks, and the dangers of gingerbread houses.

Sometimes my life is awesome.

Packing tips, since the folks in Fairy Tales just dont seem prepared.. hmmmm Fairy Scouts?
That seems less FAQ than travel guide.

But also hee.
My husband's out of town, and he said I can go in any room in the house but one that has a locked door. I have the key, though, and I'm dying of curiosity. Should I go in?
And answered!
Awesome!
Don't drink and bowl.

If you do, check your reflection when you wake up.
Nice point!
Toby FAQ

1. Will we see Oberon again or what happened to him after his 'snit fit'.
2. What do the fae think of things like Lord of the Rings and D&D or at least modern portrayals of the fae.
3. Does a Midsummer's Night Dream have any truth to it?
4. Puck?
5. I suppose how much history of the fae will we see in the books?
6. What about non-fairy folk like vampires, werewolves, zombies.
7. Can pure humans use magic?
Hmm.

Some of these I really can't answer. So I guess we shall see!
Never steal the Rampion.
Covered!
When a stranger shows up at your door and asks for help, talk nicely to them, give them food, but don't let them in.

If you find that the stranger you rudely turned away is actually a wish-granting creature that granted your neighbor three wishes DO NOT rush after him begging for wishes. It will end badly.

If a stranger does you a favor on a lonely road be gracious when you thank them and share your lunch, no matter how small it is.
..unless, of course, you are in an Arabic faerie tale, in which case you invite them into your tent, offer them bread and salt with a generous meal, and invoke the name of Allah repeatedly. (Djinni cannot harm you if you do that, and sharing bread & salt is a sacred bond of hospitality--if your guest will not eat of your salt & bread, he means you harm.)
Heeeeeee.

I agree with archangelbeth ^^ about pronunciation guides - in particular Toby's surname. I probably should already know this (but I don't). Is it pronounced "Day" or "Dy-ay" (like Christine from Phantom of the Opera) or some other, unknown variant thereof?

I can't be the only one who isn't sure but is always afraid to ask for fear of seeming ignorant, surely?
It's "Day" like the unit of time, and unfortunately, a pronunciation guide is a pretty big task that doesn't really fit within the scope of an FAQ. :(
Can you explain the Seasonal Monarchs mythos? ('Cause I know what I mean by it and what I get from your songs of it in my head, but I have a devil of a time explaining it to other people.)
Not in a "surviving in a fairy tale" FAQ. It doesn't really fit. Maybe somewhere else?
Maybe the music FAQ. I will save it for when next you are asking for one of those.
