Memo for the floor...

Hey, gang—

My webmaster's email address appears to have been compromised, and is sending out the classic "oh no I have been mugged and I'm trapped in a foreign country, send money and flying monkeys and the A-Team" email to everyone in his address book. This is not a real message. He doesn't need help, or flying monkeys, although he might welcome the A-Team; he's still here in California, and I'll make sure he knows about the situation as soon as he wakes up.

For right now, don't panic, and don't click anything he sends you.

I was just about to email you to tell you about this. I've heard a lot of gmail accounts have been hacked recently - glad I don't have one.
Yeah, it's a mess.
Oh THAT is not happy making. Have you heard *how* they're being hacked? I'd like to avoid it, personally.

--Ember--
So *that's* what that was. I figured it was a scam.
A pretty standard one, too.
I was wondering too; it didn't sound like him at all, but there's no link to click on, so I didn't immediately think "scam".

(I did immediately think "Seanan will know what's going on," though.)
I'm useful!
But it's all fun and games until the flying monkeys attack. I have a shirt that says so. Won't someone please think of the flying monkeys, and let them have their fun too?

Thanks for the warning.
I have that shirt, too.
The silliest one of those I've seen was when someone claimed to be Sib and to be stuck in London. I mean, she could have made a local phone call to friends if she were actually stuck there!
I know, right? "Gwen. In London. Come get me, I have been mugged." Done.
I saw another one from another filker friend this morning. I think there may have been an attack against gmail in general. Opportunistic attacks of this type are relatively common.
Super-fun.
