Today is the official release date for A Local Habitation [Amazon]|[Mysterious Galaxy], available now in bookstores across North America. The Kindle edition comes out on March 9th; I do not know why there is a week's delay between the two, but it's a great opportunity for you Kindle-lovers to pick up a physical copy, read it, and give it your local women's shelter. ;)
Because this is What We Do Around Here, I present our resident little dead ghoul, Mel, all dressed up for the occasion. Not that she has anywhere to go, as she has a tendency to get herself barred from all pleasant social venues. Something about killing the other patrons...
But yes, it is my release day. I have an Amy and several puffy cats, and have thus far resisted the urge to smack my head against anything. Now help the bookstores empty their shelves by rushing out and bringing Toby home with you!
My Amazon copy arrived yesterday and I devoured it last night! Er, and then I didn't sleep so well, so I'm waiting until my head works better to write a goodreads review :P
I've bought two copies as of this morning when the bookstore opened. I had to make them go into the back room and find the books. But once the nice man found the supply in the store-room, he brought out an entire display of them. So now other folks can find your new book! Yay!
Our copies shipped yesterday from the vaguely-local (Central VA) indie bookseller we ordered from. So we should have Toby invading our home within a few days.
I got it!! I went to Powell's, and didn't find it on the shelf. I asked, and the fellow at the info desk said it would be in tomorrow. I looked again, and it was there, just mis-shelved. I told the nice man, who thanked me for letting him know, and fixed it. OK.... back to reading.
I went to the Borders at the Fremont Hub around 5:30 this afternoon; they did not have a copy.
Fortunately, there is a Barnes and Noble right across the street. They had many copies in a nice display, in the center of the store. I almost missed it, though, as they did not have any copies in the SF/Fantasy section and I entered via the Starbucks entrance and not the main store entrance.
After I bought the book, I left via Starbucks and ran into someone I know from Baycon. He was there looking for book; I directed him to the display.
Got it! And congratulations! I have to admit I was confused when I first saw it, because since I've been seeing that book cover over and over in your icons here it took me a second to realize it was the new one.
I finished it yesterday. Damn, woman. I feel horribly sorry for Toby, and I suspect her life doesn't get a whole lot easier anytime soon. That said, I like books that leave me sitting there and processing for a few minutes after I finish. It's the sign of a good read. So, thank you, and happy day after book release day.

So you know, I'll start using the graphics from An Artificial Night sometime in July, and that one comes out at the beginning of September.
