2 things about the series.

Two more days remain in our pre-release countdown, which has been a surprisingly fun and distracting way to pass the time between now and A Local Habitation [Amazon]|[Mysterious Galaxy]. So that's a big "hooray," at least on my part. I like distractions that actually work, rather than ending with me starting a new essay series or something.

2 Things About the October Daye Series.

2. People periodically ask me "well, if you had your way, how long would this series go?" And to them I must say...I don't actually know. See, I know how it ends. I have detailed outlines through book seven, and looser outlines for books eight and nine, as well as a lengthy list of things that happen after that. Also, there's a prequel called Strangers in the Court that's supposed to happen between books six and seven; it's about how Toby got knighted, and it's going to be lots of fun. I always know where I am in relation to the ending, and I can always get there in one volume, but I don't have any sort of firm "it is X books long" statement that I can go bandying around.

1. I really do take a malicious glee in doing horrible things to Toby's car. I mean, people are like "why do you do those things to Toby's car?", and I'm like, "BECAUSE IT'S FUNNY." I also enjoy preventing her from sleeping, taking away her food, and denying her coffee. I am a cruel, cruel author.

How many of the things you do to Toby are things your cats do to you (in modified form, as I don't see you peeing on Toby's laundry to express your displeasure with her)?
Since I don't knock things over on her bed or put kibble in her mouth, none.

I like Luna. She tries to mitigate your cruelty to poor Toby. (So does Lily).

Too bad Toby didn't get to order the room service.

Also, very much looking forward to the prequel. How Toby got knighted is a big shiny curiosity to me!
Yeah, it's a big, chaotic event, and it means I get to write a whole book with Devin and Evening as primary characters.
Heh. You're probably one of those people who play The Sims and then takes away the swimming pool ladder once they've jumped in.
That'd be me.

Just be sure that she doesn't come to you at midnight when you're sleeping and do all the things that you do to her to you. One of my other favorite authors is Mercedes Lackey and she wrote a short story about that.
If she broke through into this reality, it's not her I'd be worried about.

It's the Luidaeg.

Seeing as she torments you in her own way, I think this is only the other half of a (mostly) balanced author/character relationship!

AngelVixen :-)
Exactly.

Toby, to Seanan: Don't make me come out there. It's possible to go too far, you know, and I promise you you will not like it.
*snicker*

Sadly true.

Jeremy Lewis likes messing with his MC's 'stang, too. :) It became undead in the last book ... Can't wait to see what happens to it in book three ... LOL
I really love that series.

I saw ALH in the store today! I left it where it was, because A) it was B&N and I am doing my absolute BEST to buy from independent stores, or Borders if I must, and B) it is not your official First Week yet, but I did pick it up and read a few of the really good bits (careful not to break the spine) and sort of pet it excitedly.

I STILL LOVE APRIL. AND QUENTIN. AND...EVERYBODY, REALLY.
Glee!
Hmh, let's just hope Toby will never turn real and visit you. You'd be in way big trouble then. :D
Her friends and fans will ply Toby with coffee and sugary cereal while Seanan escapes to safety with her cats.

Two is a beautiful number. A number that will make me happier will be one. Tuesday, come hell or high water, I'll be in Powell's picking up my copy. I can't remember the last time I looked forward to something this much. (These daily lists are doing a great job of keeping the anticipation level up.)
Woo!

I'm excited, too. Just also scared.

I think so, too.

That POOR little VW!!!! (sniffle!) They are such good little cars! They'll give you their hearts and souls and engine blocks for just a little oil and the occasional belt!!! WHAAAAAAAAA!!!!

(My first was a '68 classic bug, and I currently drive a '99 beetle. My Father still drives the classic he bought new in '69,- so... yeah, I wept when that poor little car bit it... And really- you CAN fix them easily enough... Has Toby never heard of JC Whitney Co.?
I'm sorry! And Toby isn't that mechanically inclined.

The best author doing things to his characters and their cars thing ever was in Keith Hartmann's Gumshoe Gorilla where one of the characters fills another character's car with oatmeal. She was continuing a theme as she'd also done so to his hot tub...
OMG! I love those books!

Thank you for having read them. :)
